Utopia

From the light reading I have done this story centers around a diplomat, Thomas More, he heads to Flanders in France to negotiate for Henry the 8th, so far he has meet with a French envoy at Bruges headed by the Margrave of Bruges. After a less than successful meeting he is given leave to travel the country, in Antwerp he meets a nice and honest man named Peter Giles.

So, what is your opinion of the book so far? Likes? Dislikes? What do you predict will happen next?

So I've read Utopia to the 20th page and so far it has been very interesting. Mr. More and Mr. Giles go to the main church in Antwerp and meet a traveling philosopher named Raphael who then proceeds to recount some of his journeys to foreign kingdoms. He critiques Britain's way of punishing theivery and he brings up much more humane approaches used in other kingdoms. Sir More is enamored by his intelligence and asks him why he hasnt utilized his intellect in the court of one of these kingdoms. Raphael replys in lengthy and thoroughly thought out explanation where he says his services would be overshadowed by the politics of Courtiers and his time wasted in such a fruitless endeavor. He also goes to explain why he wouldn't be useful in courts like France's which are rife with war counsels and he'd be forced to argue against such unanimous approval to his sufferance.

Sorry I forgot entirely about posting this XD Well I've really enjoyed Utopia so far, I didn't expect it to be a book to deal with the roots of inequality and the philosophy of nations. The only part that i do not enjoy about it is the fact that Sir Moore writes this to be very dialogue heavy and at times can hard/confusing to read even with its brevity.

I finished my book just a little bit ago, around page 50 I belatedly realized the Island of Utopia he described was entirely fictional and not a real place, kinda mad that one passed me by. His description of their society was extremely interesting, he really laid the groundwork on how we as a race have seen Utopia's since then. No doubt his works influenced how man has strived for a "perfect" democracy or a "perfect" Socialist state.
