Will You Read the Sequel to "The Shining?"

It is one of the darkest books I've ever read and it had the maturity I've seen in his latest works. It consists of four short-n-sweet novellas focusing on the nastier sides of people with just a hint of the supernatural. These are four tales about the lives we build that we tell ourselves our safe, sane and secure, but there’s always darkness lurking at the edges.
I will definitely be reading this book. I think it sounds like an interesting premise, and far enough removed from the original story that it won't ruin that
Absolutely! While King has had a few clunkers the past few years, he can still write something of note. I also like the fact he continues to challenge himself and not just be a cookie-cutter author for the cash like some of the writers of series franchises tend to do. ( But to be clear- I do like series franchises as well to a degree!)

I'll read it. Hopefully it won't be a rehash of "The Shining". Remember there was a "Fire Starter" tv series a while back.
I would almost say that "The Wind Through the Keyhole" is a sequel. I think he even calls it, "Dark Tower 3.5". If a sequel to "The Shining" was half as good as 'Keyhole', I'd stand in line to read it!
I love Stephen King and will definitely read this one, just a shame we have to wait until September.

Yeah and I don't think any of the modern horror movies could hold a candle to the good version of the Shining...if a sequel was done in film, I doubt it would be that impressive. I think I'm gonna stick with just reading King's sequel. Sticking with the master is always a safe bet! lol
Shane wrote: "In a recent Entertainment Weekly article, Stephen King reveled that he is going to write a sequel to "The Shining" - which is apparently the first sequel he's written. Also think there should be a sequel to stephen kings IT my favourite book of all time, just to see if all the eggs were really destroyed mmmmmm
I'll read a sequal without hesitation. I thought the The Shining book was one of the best stories ever. It really did creep me out. [And I've already peeked behind the curtain. So...] The movie was superb, too. I was just thinking this morning about how the Shelly Duvall scene unfolded, when she finally started reading the huge stack of typed pages. Now I'll have to find the movie online somewhere.
I remember the book.. it was WAY different than the movie.. so, YES.. I would read it! We've visited the Stanley hotel in Estes Park, Colorado many times! Love that place!
A big yes from me,after sticking with Stephen through the best and the not so good for what must be close to the last 30 years I can't not read it!
Read the synopsis here (ty for that, poster!) And it sounds batshit crazy, with the elements lifted from Pullman's His Dark Materials don't make this sound promising. But of course, I will read it.
I will read everything written by SK. It doesn't mean though that I liked everything that was written by him.

Not only will I read it, I am counting down the days until its release. He is simply one of the most influencial writers of our time!!!
Stephen wrote: "First sequel he's written? Ever heard of the Dark Tower series? Black House?"He's never taken one of his stand alone novels and written a sequel to it. King and Straub always meant to do a trilogy so Black House is a continuation of the same story, The Dark Tower series is a continuation of the same story. The Shining has always been a stand alone novel and the only things it has in common with Dr. Sleep is Danny and the ability to shine. Technically those are all sequels so I guess the real difference is that the Jack Sawyer books and The Dark Tower series were always intended to be extended into more than one book and The Shining wasn't.

I guess it depends on perception. When he put out The Gunslinger, he might have been the only one to know if there were going to be more to follow. I can see your point, however.
Shane wrote: "In a recent Entertainment Weekly article, Stephen King reveled that he is going to write a sequel to "The Shining" - which is apparently the first sequel he's written. Are you interested in readin..."Um, yes!
I'll definitely read it, although it was my understanding that it was going to be a prequel, has anyone else heard this?
David wrote: "I'll definitely read it, although it was my understanding that it was going to be a prequel, has anyone else heard this?"I heard it was an actual sequel in the sense that King was interested in writing about how Danny turned out after going through what he went through.
Shane wrote: "In a recent Entertainment Weekly article, Stephen King reveled that he is going to write a sequel to "The Shining" - which is apparently the first sequel he's written. Are you interested in readin..."Yes, I would read a sequel to The Shining. I want so much to believe that that hotel is wiped off the face of the earth. I guess having that much passion about a fictitional situation tells me how much into that crazy world Stephen King drew me. As to which film adaptation I liked, they both had their points. Jack Nicholson's perfermance as a man sinking into madness was great, but the tv version was truer to the book and therefore there was more development of the mother's characer. Rebecca De Mornay was far more easier to be sympathetic to, while Shelly Duvall's character could really have benefitted from her brains being bashed in with a baseball bat.
I read every King book whether I like the sound of the plot or not. He's never disappointed me, have always enjoyed his stories, even if it's not the kind of thing I usually go for. Naturally I loved The Shining so I'm excited for Doctor Sleep!
I will read it, not sure if I will like it though. Would love to read a sequel to The Stand (my favorite SK) I wonder where the new world has taken Franny and Stu, doesn't have to be horror.
Absolutely. Though the Dark Tower Series has left me feeling somewhat angry with King, I cannot pass up on the opportunity to read an extension of the novel that first introduced me to him. Doctor Sleep should be a fantastic novel, hopefully on par with the Shining, and I look forward to being with Danny again.
I cant wait for Doctor Sleep to come out but will probably do a re-read of the shining just before it comes out
