Their preferred method of torture is spurring out a range of slurs against people's mothers. This quote summarizes the full extent of this set of 50 pages. It provides a brief glimpse into the Pakistani military. Also, near this passage, it is revealed that Obaid is Ali (the prtagonist's) gay lover.

An image would be a bed scarred and enveloped in holes. This alludes to how soldiers were erotically sensitized and would pleasure themselves with reader's digest and said holes. It also shows a glimpse into the impulsive and pathetic nature of the Pakistani army at the time.
