This folder is for discussing languages which have been or are spoken in the world. For instance one could have a topic about dead languages like Latin, Homeric Greek or Old Norse and also threads for Spanish, French and German. It all depends on your preference!

John Brown | 17 comments When I was a lot younger and seeking spiritual solace, I read the Upanishads in an English translation from the Sanskrit.
I was interested to read in Deutscher's "The Unfolding of Language" how the vocabulary and endings had evolved into all the main Indo-European languages. (Atmen, Agni, pater, datta, etc.)
On BBC radio there was a great (downloadable) program recently on the Upanishads, which you can find by Googling
"in our time BBC the Upanishads"

That sounds interesting. I'm yet to touch Deutscher but he appears to be someone I should look into...
