message 105: by Angel (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angel Wilkinson Legolas is my favorite, but I also really like Glorfindal.

message 106: by Bruce (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bruce Samwise. I didn't really like him the first time I read it, but on re-reading I realized I had not appreciated his courage and loyalty.

message 107: by Lyly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lyly When I first read the book back when I was 15 it was Legolas, I just loved Elves, when I saw the movie it was reinforced. Legolas is just one of the best characters I have ever known in a book.

Colleen Legolas

Anna M. Watson Sam is first. But I also love Pippin, Aragorn, Faramir, and Haldir.

And Bilbo in The Hobbit. :)

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall I agree with most all of these, but in no order.-note most of these are my favorite characters because of the movies!
SAMWISE GAMGEE!
Aragorn
Faramir
Merry and Pippin
Legolas
Frodo
Gandalf

message 112: by Jeremy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeremy Eowyn. I actually really like the majority of the characters from Rohan. Eowyn just stands above the rest.

Michael Mine without a doubt would be Gollum/Smeagol. Very interesting creature, not quite good, but certainly not quite evil!

Jennie-Lee~abookishwonderer~ aragorn and legolas

message 115: by [deleted user] (new)

Gandalf the Grey/White, of course!

message 116: by Spencer (new) - added it

Spencer N You shall not pass!

message 117: by Jay (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jay Storey I like Sam because he starts out as an almost comical bumpkin, but in the end he's the biggest hero of them all.

Mohammad Jaber Can't find a specific one!
I think frodo and Gandalf are the best...

message 119: by Taya (new) - rated it 5 stars

Taya Mathias I have to go with Sam. I love all the characters, but Sam stuck with Frodo right to the end. He faced Orcs, goblins, black riders, a giant spider, and possessed the ring without giving in to its power. He had many opportunities to flee, but he stayed true to his friend.
I think Sam is the real hero of the story!

message 120: by Alec (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alec Faramir and Elrond

Taya,
I have to agree with you. It wasn't until my third reading of the trilogy that it occurred to me - Sam is the real hero. Frodo would never have succeeded without him.

Kathlena Contreras Sam! He's the archetypical beta male who does all the hard stuff while the other guy gets the credit. But without Sam to keep Frodo going-- encouraging him, saving him, even carrying him, the One Ring would never have been destroyed. Sam is the real hero!

Kathlena L. Contreras

Danielle Shipley Tonya wrote: "Sam is absolutely my favorite character. He is the backbone of the story. Without Sam, the Ring never would have made it to Mt Doom."

So true!

Danielle Shipley Film Fave: Aragorn all the way! And Boromir, and Sam, and Frodo.
Book Fave: Hard to tell, 'cause I'd already been gloriously infected by the movies. XD I will say, though, that I like the book Legolas even more than the film version. (Probably 'cause everyone kept teasing me about liking Aragorn best even though he doesn't have perfect Elven hair. XP)

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

Gollum although he is more in the other books in the series!

Sky Rose Reviews It has to be Sam. He is the most loyal character I've ever seen, read or heard. He is amazing!

message 128: by Sarah (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sarah Aragorn & Legolas

message 129: by Ed (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ed Van Treebeard

message 130: by Camila (new) - added it

Camila Aragorn! I always say that he's so sassy (Someone who is full of themselves but in a good way. They're cheeky, lively, smart, saucy, slightly impudent, mouthy, cocky, energetic, loud and extremely talkative.)

message 131: by Chuck (new) - rated it 5 stars

Chuck It's always been Tom Bombadil.

message 132: by Lydia (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lydia Hale Gandalf is such a strong character and has to be a favourite, but I have a soft spot for Aragorn, cos of the movie with Viggo Mortenson playing him so well...

Daniela Faramir, Eówyn and Éomer. Ohh and Pippin!

message 134: by Sanjay (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sanjay Gautam Aragoan, gandalf is wise character.

message 135: by Isis (new) - rated it 5 stars

Isis Book = Sam

Movie = (on sheer physicality) Aragorn [yummy - though I like his other movies where he smiles more often as he has a lovely smile, but with those chiseled looks smiling probably isn't why he gets hired...hopefully his talent gets him the jobs though!]

message 136: by Kalia (new) - rated it 1 star

Kalia Hill Legolas And Aragorn

message 137: by Madie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Madie I am going to have to go with Bill the Ponny, Pippin, and Tom Bombadil.

message 138: by Lynx (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lynx Legolas is my favorite, but I also like Aragorn, Eowyn, and Arwen.

message 139: by Emily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emily DeCamp Well, my favorite character has always been Legolas, but it didn't start out as a crush. The first movie came out when I was only three years old, and when the third movie came out, I would always get excited during the part when he killed the oliphaunt. so when I was five, I always called Legolas the "awesome Elf-dude" because I didn't know his real name. Later when I was twelve, I found the lord of the rings trilogy in the school library and decided to check it out. I didn't know that Legolas was the awesome elf-dude from my childhood as I read the books, but Legolas became my favorite character pretty soon. He was always very calm, was a great friend to Gimli despite their races history, and was a great protector. After I read the books, I watched the movies again (because the last time I had watched the movies before I read the books was when I was seven, so I could barely remember a thing, except for the awesome elf-dude). so when I watched the movies again, I was surprised to find out that Legolas and my childhood hero was the same person. And then it turned into a crush when I was thirteen... ;)

Elizabeth Legolas, in the movies (cause he's so darn good-looking) and Pippin in the books.

Jake Scholl Gandalf, Aragorn, and Frodo.

Gollum

message 145: by Ian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ian Richardson Legolas. Not only is he like the elf version of Robin Hood (my favorite literary character), but he also has "LEGO" in his name. 'nuff said.

Danielle Shipley Emily wrote: "Well, my favorite character has always been Legolas, but it didn't start out as a crush. The first movie came out when I was only three years old, and when the third movie came out, I would always ..."

Aww! What an awesome story! ^.^

message 147: by Diane (new) - rated it 4 stars

Diane Aragorn..

message 148: by Andrew (new) - rated it 5 stars

Andrew MY favorite character would have to be Gandalf. I really like the compassion he shows towards others. Especially at Theodreds funeral where he tries to comfort his friend in a time of need. He is also very useful throughout the stories.

Vymletoza In this order: Pippin, Merry, Éowyn, Sam, Frodo. Got to love the hobbits. Éowyn is there only because she is badass.

message 150: by QR (new) - rated it 5 stars

QR I have no favorites! They're all awesome.

But if I wanted to pick a character I wanted to see more of I would pick Frodo.

If we're talking in the films, I'd want to see more of Gimli or Gandalf.
