Emily F. (citygirl-em) | 17 comments I found a copy of this book at my local Goodwill and grabbed it because it looked current and I remembered seeing it at Borders. Has anyone read it? Is it good? Do you recommend it or thumbs down?

Emily

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I loved this book. I read Lolita in tangent with the book. It is definitely a thumbs up, and, a real eye opener. The author came out with a second book but I can't remember the name of it. It is well written and very honest.

Emily F. (citygirl-em) | 17 comments Okay...I think I'll give it a try, since it's here waiting for me! Thanks for the suggestion.

Peanut | 149 comments I picked it up at a used book sale. I tried reading it in December but with the holidays and all the running around, I just didn't get into it (it also wasn't what I needed at the time...a light fluffy book). I did enjoy what I had read though and plan to pick up the book in the near future.

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I've read most of it, and enjoyed what I did read. I saw in my library last week there's a book Jasmine and Stars Reading More Than Lolita in Tehran that would be interesting to read too, to compare, but I've got more books than I can keep up with now!

Jean Liota (gardenlady56) | 23 comments Hi Emily and everyone,
I haven't been around for awhile, but I'm just checking back in and I just had to say that I LOVED this book!!!! But I just looked at the reviews on GR and it seems that I may be in the minority. A lot of people said that they didn't like it because they hadn't read any of the books that were discussed in it. But I think that if you have read them, and if you're interested in women's rights and women's resilience, that you'll really like the book. At least I did!

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Oh, I presumed it was only Lolita that they discussed in the book. What other books were in there? RLIT is on my to read shelf--should I do more homework before I read it? hahaha!

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 319 comments It's in my Top 10 all-time favorites. :)

I loved the link between culture and literature.

message 9: by KrisT (new)

KrisT | 553 comments Amanda, I think they also discussed Pride and Prejudice, The great Gatsby and a few more but my memory is not so hot! :)

message 10: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (randymandy) | 467 comments Thanks KristT!
Man, it's been over a decade since I read Gatsby! I'll have to do a cliff's notes refresher before I read RLIT. :)

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) I've wanted to read it just for the discussions on the books they read, but I've tried a few times (including once via audio) and I just can't get into it for some reason.

message 12: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen I bought this years ago at B&N... never got around to reading it, but I think I'm glad about that because now I can read the books they discuss in it before this one! I think that would make my reading of Reading Lolita in Tehran much richer. Good thing I'm graduating and will have nothing to do...

Kumkum Hello. I am a new member, and hope it is okay to butt in?

I did read it, and enjoyed it. I also read JAsmine and Stars...a "response" book to Lolita in Tehran. If you were intrigued by LIT, liked it, or just thought it was interesting, I wd recommend Jasmine and Stars as a book that furthers the "conversation."

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Thank you for that information.

message 15: by Kumkum (new)

Kumkum Thank you:).

Kate | 96 comments I liked it a lot. She has a new memoir out, too.

I met her when she came to my campus to speak a few years back. She's as articulate and elegant as her writing suggests.

message 17: by El (new)

El I've also tried to read it and also could not get into it. I went into it really hoping to be interested, and when I found myself uninterested I was a little put off. I plan to try it again though just in case I am missing something.

message 18: by Nadia (new)

Nadia A (bagambo) I bought this book when it first came out but could not get into it. I think I am going to give it another try this summer. Sounds like an interesting read.

Cindy (cyndil62) | 1774 comments It is one that is on my bookshelf to be read. I keep adding more books to my TBR list; I'm sure a lot of you can relate to that!
