A young woman has been cursed by an evil woman and is made hideous. The young woman and a cat, a fish, a frog, and a crow (and maybe a dog?) each have a magical pebble in their bodies that cause incredible pain (the girl's in her stomach, the fish's in his mouth, the cat's in her paw, the frog's in his head, and the crow's in his wing). I believe the young woman befriends a knight who has lost his memory and helps him find his way home. Eventually the curse is broken and the "pebbles" come out and are beautiful gems. I can't remember when I first read the book so I have no idea about when it might have been published.
