I went to the GF library book sale, got one off my list and only 3 other books. I'm making an effort not to by any more series until I've gotten the rest of the books in all the series I already have. Here's what I got:
The Lies of Locke Lamora
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
The Iron Lance by Lawhead
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
The Prince and the Pilgrim Mary Stewart
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Time Weaver Shana Abe

Joy H. wrote: "Jim, we love the Subaru! It's a great car."Hard to get them worked on here, Joy. The closest place is over an hour away from home, so I'm pretty much stuck with Chevy or Ford. My son & his wife in MD have an Outback & love it, though.
Jackie wrote: "I went to the GF library book sale, got one off my list and only 3 other books. [PS-Let me know if you think I might like any of them.] BTW, Eddie is still enjoying all the books from the box you gave me. He's plowing right through them, one after another! LOL
Jim: OIC. :) Too bad about not having a Subaru place close by. We have one here in Glens Falls, thank goodness.
That's good to hear, I love passing on books. I forget what I gave him, what genre does he like most? I'll start a pile for him.
Jackie, I've got The Iron Lance on my to-read list, too! Glad you were able to get a good deal on a copy.
Jackie wrote: "That's good to hear, I love passing on books. I forget what I gave him, what genre does he like most? I'll start a pile for him."Nice of you, Jackie. Eddie will read absolutely ANYTHING! He's amazing. But most of all he likes non-fiction, including history and BOATS! LOL
PS-The books in the box tend to be romantic mysteries, I think. He's probably reading chick-lit and doesn't realize it. lol I wonder how he'd like fantasy and SF.
Werner, when we finish our other Lawhead series, we could buddy read The Celtic Crusades series. I had no intention of buying a book that's part of a series but I made the exception with Lawhead as I know I like his writing and would undoubtedly buy the series at some point anyway. Joy, those must have been from my MIL. Friends give me books but I've stopped taking anything non-SF/F, now I'll take what offered in the future and pass them on. And I save some SF/F for him too.
Jackie wrote: "Werner, when we finish our other Lawhead series, we could buddy read the Celtic Crusades series." Great idea, Jackie; I'll look forward to that! I know The Iron Lance won't be hard to get by interlibrary loan.
I should lend Eddie my copy of Cruises with Kathleen by Donald Hamilton. The Kathleen is his sailboat that he lived on for years. Hamilton was an avid hunter & the author of the Matt Helm series, the American James Bond. (Do NOT judge him by the stupid movies with Dean Martin.)
Good news! I got a great State Farm rep who gave my mechanic the go ahead & I should be able to pick my car up tomorrow morning!

The book he's reading now, which was in the box,is: Deadly Deceptions (Mojo, #2) by Linda Lael Miller.
Jim wrote: "I should lend Eddie my copy of Cruises with Kathleen by Donald Hamilton. The Kathleen is his sailboat that he lived on for years. Jim wrote: "Good news! I got a great State Farm rep who gave my mechanic the go ahead & I should be able to pick my car up tomorrow morning!"Jim, are you insured for that sort of thing? I didn't know insurance paid for car repairs.
PS-Jim, I ordered Cruises with Kathleen online. It was 10 cents plus $3.99 shipping ("used" in "very good" condition, hard cover). Our library doesn't have it. I think both Eddie and our sailor son (and his sailor wife) will enjoy it. Thanks for telling me about it. By the time you mailed it and I returned it, the cost would have been more.
s of 11:30 last night, I became a grandfather. Colin was delivered by emergency C section as he was in distress. Ashley popped her water about 2:30, but never dilated. Both are fine, though. Here are picsBrandon & Colin:

Wow. I'm a grandfather. I don't feel that old. I called Mom & told her she's a great grandmother. She was happy with the news but said she had to finish tacking up the horses. It's a hunting day.
;-)
That's amazing, Joy. I looked for it for years & finally paid a lot more than that for it. Still haven't gotten around to reading it, though. I have most of Hamilton's books. He's a great western writer, too.
CONGRATULATIONS, GRANDPA! lolPass on my best wishes to the new parents - PS-AND TO THE NEW GRANDMA!.
I love those pics, Jim!
Forgot to mention the pictures were great. Especially the newborn. This is speaking from the viewpoint of a grandmother of eighteen.
Jim, warmest congratulations to you and Marg, and to the proud parents! I'm so happy for all of you. And thanks for sharing the pictures!
Thanks, all. Ashley's mother took the pics & posted them. Colin will likely get on a motorcycle before a horse. Brandon has always liked them better. He's the one that just had the bad wreck last year.
My new grand-dog, BAXTER! Hurray! Just got the news and the picture. I'm so happy.

Nina, I don't know which breed Baxter is. He's probably a mix because our son usually gets his dogs from a rescue organization. I'm waiting to hear more details. I'll probably meet Baxter at Thanksgiving time. It'll be interesting to see our Romeo's reaction to his new "cousin".
Pics of some of the trees I get to start cleaning up today, but mostly the puppy. He's so cute in his skull & crossbones sweater.https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...
Joy and Jim, thanks for sharing the puppy pictures; they're precious! The only problem is that I can't reach through the computer screen to pet the little tykes. :-)
We got most of the mess cleaned up this morning. I added to the pictures in #4178. I didn't let Pip help me, though.
Rec'd an email from Nina. The reply button doesn't show up on her Goodreads screen. She's waiting to see if it will straighten itself out. I was beginning to worry when we didn't hear from her.
I agree, that puppy is so cute. I have never seen dogs run as fast as Jack Russels. I once saw them race and it was such fun watching them.
Amber has a lot of ribbons for winning her races. Pip seems to be pretty quick already, but we'll have to see.
I've never seen a dog race or any activity like it. This has been all new to me, learning about dogs who win ribbons for racing.BTW, I came across a funny YouTube. It's called: "The World's Most Funny Dogs Videos 2013". The link is:

Nina wrote: "Joy, have you never heard of the Greyhound races?"Only vaguely, Nina. I associate Greyhound with Greyhound buses. :) http://www.greyhound.com/
I finished my latest project, a scarf for Jackie made from Juneau's fur.https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...
Jim wrote: "I finished my latest project, a scarf for Jackie made from Juneau's fur. https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/..."Well done, Jim. A very precious momento for Jackie. Amazing, in fact! I have a small packet of Romeo's fur but it's not enough to send to you yet. I'll have to get going on it!
PS-There must have been a good amount of fur. Juneau is a big dog. I wonder how much he weighs.
Thanks, Joy. Juneau is a hairy beast, apparently. When does he shed the most, Jackie? May or June?Great news! Marg is cooking dinner tonight!!! She's either really tired of my cooking or feeling much better.
;-)
What did Marg cook? Do you do most of the cooking in your house? Eddie does ALL of the cooking in our house! :)
Marg made steak, peas, & noodles, Joy. She does most of the cooking, although I can & do as the mood or need strikes. I'm usually too busy out of the house to do it, although she only cooks dinner. Lunch & breakfast, if I eat it, are up to me.
I love noodles! The only trouble with noodles is that they are hard to pick up on a fork. I too make my own lunch and breakfast.
The pepper noodles at Trader Joe's are excellent and easy. Just had T. J. pumpkin pancake mix for breakfast and they turned out yummy also. My truck driver grandson showed up and that makes us thankful for that, among other things. He is a twin and he drives for Swift and CO in order to pay his twin brother's tuition to college. Perhaps the brother will return the favor when he graduates. We are happy to feed him en routes to wherever he goes. Tomorrow we are off to a farm in KS for dinner with loads of people. Have fun whatever you do tomorrow and be thankful for the day.
I just started a recipe topic. It occurred to me that we have several centuries worth of cooking experience here & I'd love to have one topic to look through for them. I reposted a couple & added a new one for Maryland Crab Soup. I'm going to stop by the store on the way home & buy the ingredients tonight as a surprise for Marg. A treat to make her feel better.

Nina wrote: "I'm sorry, I must have missed hearing Marg was unwell; hope she is much better by tomorrow."She has pneumonia, Nina. 2 days ago was the first day she got dressed in a week. She ran a temperature of 102.7 for a day & was 101 a day on either side of that. She's getting there, but it will likely be another week or two before she's fully recovered.
