D.G. | 2752 comments I did a check at a glance. :) So far I have books for every color but have few choices for yellow (only one book), green (only two books) and purple (3 books.)

For red, blue and orange, I have like a million books each. :)

Too bad black is not one of the colors. :)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Did you check the "other editions" too?

I did it for one book I knew had tons of editions - found every color of cover but yellow, LOL! - so that's my plan B.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yeah I went through yesterday and shelved some as color options. Just to make sure there wasn't a color I had to hunt for and I had at least a couple for each. I would like to know if there's a page minimum.

message 55: by D.G. (last edited Jan 15, 2013 09:17AM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments There are tons of books with shades in between too, so I guess poor Steph is going to have to give us some guidelines. :) I mean what is this? Blue? Purple? Indigo?

message 56: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yeah I had a lot like that too. Some that could go blue or green or blue or purple. Or red or orange or vice versa.

message 57: by D.G. (last edited Jan 15, 2013 09:24AM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments And then there are the tan/golden covers. Do those count as yellow? Or not?

I know this is yellow:

But what about this? Yay or nay?

message 58: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Maybe this will help some members...I have shelves for all colors. Check under ZZ to find the color you are looking for.

Barbara ★ This is a neat twist on the game and I'd like to play.

message 60: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yeah I left those off any of my shelves because I had every color. But I was wondering about that too. Clearly there'll be some books that will need approval as the game plays.

Definitely Blue

The second one I would say it yellow too. Of course, i'm not a mod (LOL). JR Ward BDB books tends to have solid colors.

what would you say about this one? Gold/Yellow?
Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris versus Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris

message 63: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I'm sure there's going to be some judgement call in some of these, especially some colors appear different in real life than on a computer. I would think that as long as a good argument for your case could be made, the judge(s) would find it acceptable.

What's difficult is when the real life color is vastly different from the computerized color. My copy of Burning Darkness (Offspring, #4) by Jaime Rush isn't nearly so ... pink. It's definitely a lilacy purple color.

message 65: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32724 comments Welcome, everyone! Thanks for taking a chance and signing up for our first game of Fantasyland. Like I said, there'll be kinks to work out as we go along. But, I think it should be fairly easy once we get up and running.

I've got a ton of RL stuff going on at the moment, so I thought something like this might be fun until our next round of BSB (no, I'm not sure yet when that will be - maybe Apr/May time frame).

For color verifications, I'm going to trust your judgement for the most part. Those that are in the range of the color your team lands on will be acceptable. If you aren't sure and want an okay, you're welcome to ask before hand. If you have to convince yourself that the cover fits, it probably doesn't. >;)

For instance, these are all acceptable as 'yellow':
Death Perception (Psychic Eye Mystery, #6) by Victoria Laurie A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, #4) by Kim Harrison Demon Day (Rae Wilder, #2) by Penelope Fletcher Tribulation (Rapture Trilogy, #2) by Phillip W. Simpson Blood from Stone (Retrievers, #6) by Laura Anne Gilman Serengeti Lightning (Serengeti Shifters, #3) by Vivi Andrews When Pleasure Rules (The Shadow Keepers, #2) by J.K. Beck The Claimed by Caridad Piñeiro Aftermath (Sirantha Jax, #5) by Ann Aguirre Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris

If a yellow cover looks more orange, maybe save it for an orange spot and visa versa. Like I said, I'll trust your judgement. If it looks like a shade of yellow, it should be fine.

Start date hasn't been set yet. But, I'm leaning towards the last week of Jan or first week of Feb ~ it'll depend on sign-up cut-off, which has not be determined yet either - Details to follow shortly. For this first round, I'm thinking smaller is better. :)

Players will be shuffled into teams, similar to BSB. One person on each team will need to be the team's captain. That person will be responsible for picking a card each week, which will determine the team's movement on the board. Everyone will draw/move on the same day (most likely Sunday, but TBD).

The game is called Fantasyland because our group's focus is on all things fantastical. Books used during the challenge must be over 200 pages. I'd prefer books fall within a fantasy-related genre in sticking with the group's focus: Sci-fi, fantasy, PNR, UF, etc. But, outside genres will be allowed.

Similar to BSB, reviews must be more than 1 line and, preferably, include what you did/n't like about it. These games are a great way of promoting books to our members. You don't have to write a publish-worthy review, but any add'l thoughts you have about it are appreciated.

If I missed anyone's question or did not include your name on the sign-up list, please let me know. I'll be updating it now, so give me a minute to add everyone up to post #65.

D.G. | 2752 comments Thanks for answering questions, Steph! And your guidelines make sense. :)

Pleas add me to the list!

message 67: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Well I was hoping for a lower page count but you are less strict on the amount of the color on the covers than I thought. So I'm good.

Kerstin | 862 comments That sounds like a fun game! Please sign me up too :)

I should be able to get the rest of the prep done quickly and determine a start date by next week. Yay! I'm so excited to see so much interest. Hopefully it'll be another fun team challenge.

Stay tuned for our start date and team announcements. :D

LOL! That you did. ;)

Thanks, ladies! I'll add you (Cristina, Heather, Jackie M, Skandia, & Jeann) to the stand-by list. I'm sorry you missed out on the first round. I wanted to keep it small-ish for our first go in case we have some growing pains to work out along the way. If all goes well there are sure to be add'l rounds in the future.
