I feel bad for Celaena because everyone is pushing her down some path and none of those paths are of her choosing.. Even if she chooses to embrace Aelin, there were events that lead up to that point that people made her go down against her will

So I've just finished reading Heir of Fire (again) and now I wonder. If Arobynn knows who and what Celaena is, why did he train her? He put her ..."
Comment from Amba from the first page. Yes, I totally agree with you Amba that it was foolish for Arobynn to train Aelin as an assassin and give her all those skills. But then again, Arobynn's not foolish.
And I also think it's very possible that Arobynn's against Adarlan. Because he knows who Celaena/Aelin really is, so he could have made her a deadly assassin and then she can use her skills and power to overthrow Adarlan. Then he could say that she's in his debt because he taught her all those fighting skills. Maybe he could then gain political power or a lot of money from the heir of Terrasen. But that doesn't explain why he was so cruel to her and why he made sure she hated him.

Arobynn is so calculating he's not even human. He manipulates everyone for his own selfish purposes. He's obviously ambitious and money-loving; I wouldn't put it past him to want to rule the world. And if he found a way to use the Wyrdkey and overthrow the royal Havilliard family, Wyrd help us all.

So I've just finished reading Heir of Fire (again) and now I wonder. If Arobynn knows who and what Celaena is, why did he train her..."
To prepare her for her rule as Aelin seems like a good reason. He must know that if she ever decided to claim her kingdom and her crown, Adarlan/the King won't be easy to deal with. He thinks so many steps ahead that sometimes I feel it chips away at his humanity, to ensure that his 'investment' is secured he'd go the distance.
Or maybe he's just a horrible person.

I imagine a dialogue like this
Arobynn: You was mine. And that miserable son of a bitch took you away, away from me. He touched you, kissed you..here under my fortress. And then he ripped your virginity. You was mine..
Aelin: X_X
Chao:Actually.. I did..

And in the first chapter of QoS she reads under the words of Arobynn..

OMG Giada, I laughed so hard at that. You was mine. But you could be right.
Also, did anyone notice in HoF that when Chaol visited her apartment, it was stated The secret apartment above the warehouse was untouched, though someone had taken the time to cover the ornate furniture.
I'm guessing that was Arobynn, still not able to let Celaena go after she went to Endovier.

Or do you guys think it's just another tactic in the game that he's playing with Aelin?

As for Aelin's other love interests, I'm not sure if a bond can be solidified now since there will be up to 6 books altogether and we're only halfway through. It's like in each book there's a new potential love interest. I can't wait to see who Sarah will bring in this time in QoS.

I THOUGHT THAT TO! when i reread the first novella, sam seemed to think the same to
Arobynn may have done because he knew would be agasint using slaves and cel would be too. so remove her ally? or they were getting to close for this comfort. he seems to like taking things from her that could potentially make her not as loyal to him?

"...After another moment of quiet, he(Farran) asked, "Why did you do it?" Arobynn's attention drifted back to the wagon, already a small dot in the rolling foothills above Rifthold. "Because I don't like sharing my belongings."..."
Arobynn deserves to die at Celaena's hands just like Grave in CoM. No, worse than that. I don't know. Either way, a quick clean death is way to good for that bastard.

He's psycho & he cant understand let alone feel love its a tool to him and nothing else!
What do we know about Arobynn:
He loves only himself
He's Cruel
Cunning
Overpossessive
Manipulative
He knows Secrets = Leverage + Power = Control.
Hence, creating Celaena & hiding her amulet. They are leverage over the King & Aelin. Heck he might even know its 1 of 3 Keys which as we have learned wield terrible power!
Arobynn & the slave trade. I think way back when Arobynn, as a business man, knew the KofA was looking for a great supply of slaves to build up Calculla and Endovier and Arobynn wanted to broker that deal with the Pirate king so the King would come to him as the major supplier of slaves. But when Celaena disrupted that trade deal Arobynn had no choice but to team up with KofA & that lady from Melissand instead of becoming the sole supplier and thats why he was mad at Celeana, bec. he wanted the King to need him for slaves not partner with him on the slave supply. He wound up with less power over the king and less profit because of that deal breaker. But he still has the secret of the missing heir so he prob figures at that point he was still slightly ahead in the struggle for power/uneasy alliance. (I also suspect that Arobynn had Gregori kill his best friend Ben. Ben seemed like too nice a guy to actually agree to the slavery deal and so Arobynn had him sent to the grave. Probably couldnt even do it himself, the selfish coward.)
You guys are right he bought Lysandra with Celeanas debt money just to annoy her. He totally took advantage of Celaenas trust by dangling an assignment that she thought was meant to stop the slave trade when it really only furthered the sanctioning of it just to punish her for messing up his business deal. AND remember those 3 guys Celeana says she had seen before well she ran into a mans chest(his next 3 clients) right after she got done telling Arobynn she bought an appartment, but was moving out...by that point Arobynn had ALREADY set his kill Sam plan into motion with Farren. He probably met Farren on the rooftops the night before she told him she was moving out! He totally used that time she was in the Red Desert to come up with the plan to broker the slave trade deal and come up with his plan to give her that twisted assignment. I think the whole killing Sam plan was designed on the fly since once she returned he noticed how close they had gotten and probably expected Sam would reveal his feelings or leave like he said. (neither of which Arobynn would allow)
Now Arobynn QoS. He is totatlly waiting for her to come to him. Now that she's practicaly declared herself she's gonna want her necklace back. But he also knows the Kings becoming to powerful and he needs someone to do the dirty work so he can gain some control over the city again. At this point he needs Aelin more than he needs to screw with her. It wouldnt make good business sense.
As for him not contacting her when she returned from Endovier it says 1 of 2 things (its actually flattering): A. He didnt contact her bec. he figured she'd put the pieces of the puzzle together and they'd point straight to him...so he was actually acknowleging she is strong enough to defeat him. B. He was cocky and thought he didnt need her anymore so he basically turned her over to the King & they threw her like a piece of trash into the mines... remember it wasnt until AFTER Arobynn hears about the Fire-Breathing-Bitch-Queen that he even deemed her worthy/useful enough to meet up with her again OR he either thought I'll rescue her after some time so she'll see me as a hero. I think at this point in the series he's losing all his leverage and power he's realized the secret of the lost Heir is soon to be moot and the King has 2 keys and now has way too much power for comfort it wont be long before he starts pulling Arobynns strings and is asking him to dance. For a man like Arobynn who likes to be incontrol he's realized he's fast becoming a puppet instead of mutual partner.
I did actually consider that Arobynn just expected Aelin to fall in love with him eventually and at that point he might have oh so graciously have agreed that she should take her kingdom back and marry him (like oh ok I'll guess I'll be a king for you Celeana) lol. Self centered a$$!
What worries me is...why does Arobynn want that collared person..do you think he knows he has a key and he wants the collared person to see if he could turn the tides and control the collared person?!!!

What if Arrobyn is trying to create his own collars? I remember from CoM that Arrobyn told Archer about Celeana. The question is why? And where did Archer learn about wryd marks? I am wondering if Arrobyn saw the markings on the back of Celeana's amulet and began researching what they were. I don't know if he knows what he has or not, but Archer kept up with his training at the assassin keep, and Celeana said that she had a crush on him while he was there and that he would let her test out her flirting skills. What if Arrobyn would of seen that and tried to use Archer as a way to get Celeana in check. Also were did the King learn about wryd marks? And what happened to that book that pops up out of no where with teaching on wryd marks? I am wondering if Arrobyn gets his hands on a collar if he would try to duplicate it and ...... Trap Celeana in one to try to have her in his control again.
Crazy thought, huh......
