Books linked to wrong author

The profile for Heather Allen http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

has several books link to it that was written by a different Heather Allen. The only book that should be on this profile is "Just Breathe".

I can edit each of the other titles to change author name to "Heather^^Allen" as discussed on another thread.

Odd that it's not letting you since your profile shows you as a goodreads librarian. Change log shows roughly 30 minutes ago you were editing author profile to have four spaces?

Before I go to edit the individual book data, I wanted to doublecheck that these weren't already being worked on and that I'd be stepping on someone else currently working on the issue?

I think I am confused because earlier today the "similar names" feature for Heather Allen had "Heather^Allen" and "Heather^^Allen" . Now when I look at the Heather Allen profile you linked to has become "Heather^^^^Allen" and instead of the one Just Breathe book has the other books and there is no "Heather^^^Allen" (3-space) and I'm not seeing any of the librarian notes that usually get added when disambiguating author names?

What if anything still needs editing?

Hi Debbie, I have a book that I believe is listed under the wrong author. I am a librarian, but I haven't learnt how to remove a book from an author or how to create a new author with the same name as another author. Can you show me how to fix this? Thanks.

If you need to move it to an already existing author, just change author name in the author field and done. (In the book you linked, there is nit another Allison Brennan author yet).

If author it belongs to has same name and no profile yet, that's what's meant by "disambig" "dismbiguate" or "disambiguating" (what see when editing author profile data, these threads, and in librarian manual). (That's looks like the case for your link).

To disambig, go to the book needing to be moved to new author of same name. Edit details, change author name to add a space (where ^ is a space) from "Allison^Brennan" to be "Allison^^Brennan", save book.

Click on new and old author names and if not goodreads authors, you are now going to edit their profiles. In author bio/description field add Librarian note: There is more than one author with this name. Firstname^lastname writes genre yyy books. Firstname^^Lastname writes zzz genre. (genre or whatever might clarify which author is which; if not clear put a book title with each author). Also add an actual librarian note with same information to the author profile. (Author's later claiming their goodreads orofile might overwrite the description so the actual librarian note becomes a reminder to them of how many spaces in their name.)

If a third Allison Brennan author is added, ""Allison^^^Brennan" and so on.

Yep, i was in the book. The author asked me to update but i wasn't quite sure how to do it. I didnt want to mess up all the other books so i wanted to ask someone else in here who had more experience.

Because already a goodreads author, you won't be able to edit the original "Allison^Brennan"profile but can do for the new profile.

An example to look at is Tom Evans with four authors of same name where librarian note says:

"Librarian Note: there is more than one author by this name.
Tom^Evans writes non-fiction like "This We Know"
Tom^^Evans writes medical books
This Tom^^^Evans writes about music
Tom^^^^Evans writes fiiction like "When Kids Could Play Outside" "

Would you like to try so you can learn then have me doublecheck you?

Or would like me to just do and you can learn by seeing what I did?

Thanks a lot. From the timing of our two posts it looks like we posted at almost exactly the same time, LOL. I would always rather read instructions and then try it for myself, I learn better that way. I followed your instructions and it was all quite simple - so yay!! I have a new librarian skill I can use without calling on other people for help.

Wherever possible, now that another librarian recently showed me, helpful to "edit data" on a non-goodreads author profile and click "similar names" — that list might make it clear which books belong to which authors or point you to an author profile that would have a librarian note clarifying.

Usually it's an author posting about something wrong or missing on their profile so at least you can ask them which books are theirs.

Is this the second book in your series? And do you have a better image for the cover, as this cover is clearly from amazon and we can't use amazon data/images.

It is the second book to the Matik Masters series.
I do have an image on my computer of the original cover. how would i go about getting the new cover up?
