Paul Tom Clancy books are always an easy read. He basically follows the same formula in each book: Bad guys threaten the US and, seemingly, are undefeatable. John or John Jr. always figure out a way, no matter how implausible, to defeat the arch enemy. Like a movie, the reader is often required to suspend belief and overlook major plot holes if he or she wants to enjoy the book. For example, how would they get two captured enemies into the middle of China? Considering that the cyber system that was the real villain of the book was so astute that the coming and going of virtually anyone of interest was as easy as tuning into a TV channel. What makes these books so engrossing is how the hero will figure out the solution. This book reminded me a lot of "Daemon" by Daniel Suarez. Clancy, or his surrogate, combine two of the main paranoias of our time, China's rise to power and the invasion of privacy by the cybernet to update the newest thriller plot line.
