I would be suprised if someone actually likes the WHOLE series and every book in it because I stopped reading the series after Burned. Reason I did is because I got bored with reading it and the series is like never ending and I can never remember which book is which, so no point in finishing the series if it just plain sucks. I admit I thought the first couple were alright and then everything started going downhill with all the dumb stuff in every book that was being made up, and one of the main things that made me sick is Zoey. No I don't think she was mean to her friends or anything like that, I just think her and her boy drama is a little bit too much for me and I have nothing againt love triangles, but really the authors took it way too far. Just my opinion though.
I disliked the repetition in the books of the series. I havn't read all of them, but from those I did read, the drawing out of the story and (I agree) the amount of complaining from many of the characters made the books unappealing, so I stopped after the first few. Also, I remember having read the books around the same time my mom and sister were and neither of them liked the books either. From my observations, anybody that has read any of these books has come to regret or abandon the idea soon after getting it.
The House of Night series is one of those series that has been stretch out to the point of nothingness and has no end in sight. In truth the book lost it appeal after about the third book or so and I agree Rachelle, I don`t know which events had happened in which book. I won`t say I hate this series but I dislike it. I have read up to the recent one that`s out and I`m planning of reading it to the end. Even though I can`t bear how awful it becomes. I refuse to abandon a book or a series but also I`m just so curious how she will manage to end the series.
I think these books are like dodgy candy. You know the type, it's new, and you try it, and you don't know if you like it, so you have some more, and it takes the whole packet to work out that it is foul, but by then you're addicted.I like some parts of the HoN series, but it took me a long time to decide to like it, because it would go:
Zoey: *mindless nonsense*
Stevie-Rae: *agrees with mindless nonsense*
*enter Damien*
Zoey: "Damien, do you agree with *mindless nonsense*"
Stevie Rae: "These are my thoughts on *mindless nonsense*"
Damien: "*mindless nonsense*? *SAT prep course answer* I think that's me agreeing, but I can't tell when I burp up that dictionary I swallowed"
*enter Shawnee and Erin*
Stevie Rae: "Twins, Zoey said *mindless nonsense* and I think *agree with mindless nonsense* *suddenly remembers she's Texan y'all* *Texan Drawl*"
Damien: "*SAT prep course rant* don't you agree?"
Shawnee: *mindless*
Erin: *nonsense?*
ShawneeandErin: "Totes! *random reference to current popculture that in ten books and three fictional weeks time will seem dated*
Zoey: *offensive thoughts about how our teacher must be evil because I think she's giving me a B*
Original conversation was maybe three paragraphs. We now have a chapter. It's finally stopped doing that quite so much, but they've forgotten their original plotlines, for sure.
I LOVE this series, I've read it 3 times! Sure it's predictable but I think it's a great story and I love her take on vampires.
I don't know if I hate them
I read the first few when I was 13ish and loved them. And after book 4 I started hating the series. I don't know if I just hate it because it is too long or it has gone down hill. Or maybe they have never been good and I just liked the first three because I was young when I first read them.
I had the same problem with Twilight. I read all the books when I was 12. The movies came out and I hated them. After #4 part 2 comes out I tried to read the books again and I hated them. I don't know if the movie tarnish the books or if I just outgrow them

I personally felt like banging my head against a wall every time I picked up on of these books, and it caused me physical agony to continue reading them. However, I'm not a quitter, so I did it.
if you guys go to jamie mcguire facebook page and prest the like button they will release the book walking disaster 2 weeks sooner
I don't know why everyone hates the series. They were good to begin with and they got boring and then they got good again. People just stopped reading at Hunted because it was boring and just thought the rest were going to be like that.
Honestly i'm on the third book and i mean i like the seires but it's i dnt know how to say it...like at first i thought it was good but i've lost interest and that has never happened to me before except once in my whole life. Just all the boy drama is what got me i think and plus i feel like the sieres is shifting gear like at first it was about one thing and then i feel like it's turining into something else.
I stopped reading the series. I haven't read the last book because I seriously hate Zoey that much. She is a horrible "hero" She is whiny and slutty and just kind of stupid. I can't stand her.

Who can? That's what I would like to know.

I agree with the fact that the series has been dragged on way too long. The fact is that with every book you are waiting for a battle that NEVER happens. It seems as if new problems get in the way. Way to the end the series, Neferet kills Zoey(because she is one of the WORST protaginist ever written) and Neferet is killed by Nyx. Good, solid ending. :D

Only the best ending ever.
Only the best ending ever.
I've read them all... and complain about them lol BUT I JUST CANT STOP!! I actually enjoyed the first few books, then I thought well those two could have just been one book...(cant rememeber which ones) why release so many in a short time when they could have just been combined!!?? I would have rather of waited a bit longer and had a longer book to read... I found I was just getting into it and then I finished the book!! ARRRRRRGGGGG
AND did you hear its being made into a movie??? I KID YOU NOT PEOPLE!!
Well, I'm in the third book, "Chosen", and though I do have my own complaints, I am NOT About to quit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love this series all of you are nuts this is an excilent book!!!! i wonder what you would think of fifty shades of gray.jesus
I liked Fifty Shades of gray.....................Love Hunger Games. I hate Zoey..............just hate her.
Yeh I liked fifty shades too LOVE hunger games! Don't get me wrong I also enjoy the HON series and I will continue to buy them... I'd like the books a bit more longer especially with all the character POV the story doesn't move Very quickly. How many books are we into now 9/10? And she's only been marked for 6 months or so.
Would rather it be a tv series than a movie though x
i used to really like the series when i was like 12/13, but then i realized that there are way too many books for what happens in that world, and the books are short too. I stopped reading after Hunted, like many others. Nowadays i just pick up whichever book is the newest released and skim through it to see what happens. I'm not into the series anymore but i do want to see it to completion.
I personally don't absolutely love this whole series, but I don't absolutely hate it either. I really like a lot of the books and characters, though there are some characters and a few books in the series that I don't like, but I've read all the ones that have been released. I like Stevie Rae, Stark, and Aphrodite the most tbh. Though I do like a lot of the characters- there are too many to name- and overall the series is in my top 10 favorite series to be honest. I jus t really like- if not love- the character development throughout the books. Zoey is still whiney sometimes though, which is annoying to read, but I still love the series enough to continue with them. However, they are getting a little tedious to read with the repetitive themes in the books. I do really like them though. That's my short opinion on this series. I could go on and on about this series but I'll stop here. I kind of have a love/hate relationship with the series... That's all I'm going to say..
I seriously don't know how you can read more than one book of that awful series. The first few chapters in the first book made me want to scream my head off. The way it is written is a joke and Zoey is not funny. On contrary, she seems quite immature to me. And stupid-definately stupid. Honestly do the writers really think that is how teenagers talk? Either they are facing midlife crisis or is somehow cut off from the actual world. Or maybe both.
The plot is very poor and so unintersting. When you're the most powerful vampire you'd think of either saving the world or taking it over. But Zoey? Nope, she uses her powers to knock down the Queen Bee of the school and takes her place. Kudos for her accomplishment.
I do not plan on reading the rest of the series because I am not one who's into self harm or masochism. Reading the first book made my IQ go down a few points.
Marked was a painful journey into a bottomless pit of dark emptiness. My poor eyes!
What can I say? First I thought it was okay. That it is kinda interesting. But when I read the third book or the fourth, with the "love quadrilateral", I began to think that she was a "ho" (which the author always used). The plot was retty interesting, to be honest, in Betrayal. But Marked is simply boring with all those classes and chatting, I skiped a lot. Some friend told me it's not boring, it gives you an idea what this imaginary world is like. But seriouly, doesn't everybody know what a vampire is and how they live??
I don't know Wendy, it seems to me that they're more Wicca who drink blood ritualistically. I would not call them vampires at all.
Siobhan wrote: "I don't know Wendy, it seems to me that they're more Wicca who drink blood ritualistically. I would not call them vampires at all."I agree they weren't really vampires at all. And after what happened with Stevie Rae, who in my opinion was the only good character, I said screw this and stopped reading the series.
My daughter loves the whole series. In fact, she HAS the whole series. I have read all of them except the last book. You need to take into consideration that this book is written about teenagers, 15, 16, 17 y/o kids who, just like in the real world complain about things like "who they date", school, classmates, etc.
If you are going to read a book based on the youth, then don't complain that it's too drab for adults.
It isn't the best series I have read but by teenager standards it is a lot like their lives (without the whole vampire thing) LOL.
Tenma wrote: "With Marked, I've noticed that, with a lot of people, you either hate the series or hate it a whole lot. Why? I'd have to chalk it up to annoying characters (Zoey, Erik, Heath, Stark...) that are c..."
I hope my daughter won't act like this when she is a teenager. Save us all if Zoey acts like a "normal" teenager.
I hated this series i got halfway through the first book and gave up on it. It was just so unbelievably boring to me.
I loved this series. I see the humanity in it as well as the "surreal". I didn't think that these forums were to bash the books and authors, but the truly discuss the books. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and look forward to every new release written. PC Cast is one of my favorite authors and these books have lived up to my expectations.
How many books are out now? I read the first 5 or 6, I think before I said screw this and stopped. (They were from the library thank god)
Emily wrote: "How many books are out now? I read the first 5 or 6, I think before I said screw this and stopped. (They were from the library thank god)"There are so far 10 books published so far and the eleventh will be published later this year.
I don't know how you went upto book six, I chucked it before finishing the first. As Haleema said, it gives people PTJRARCBD (Post Traumatic Just Read A Really Crappy Book Disorder)
Haha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PTJRARCBD (Post Traumatic Just Read A Really Crappy Book Disorder)
LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good one Asha & Haleema !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But me, however, just like I said in Message #18, I'm sticking to it 'til the end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Asha wrote: "Emily wrote: "How many books are out now? I read the first 5 or 6, I think before I said screw this and stopped. (They were from the library thank god)"There are so far 10 books published so far ..."
I had them all throught he library and I mostly skimmed the last three to see if it got better...............
I read all of them and absolutely love them. The books are a lot different from a lot of other vampire books. i love the character and the humor of this book. it drew me in from book one.
but i do have to admit that this is a long series and kinda want it to end somewhere and not keep going on and on. the last book that just came out was pretty good just not as good as the beginning ones. i think they should make a couple more to finish off the series and just end it cuz i fear if they dont stop making them their just going to get worse.
I think that the ideas used in the Casts take on vampire fantasy could have been fantastic, the idea had potential to be good but the writing ruined it all. It really bothers me how the authors try so hard to make this book appealing to teenagers. If all teenagers acted like the characters in these books everyone would be a shallow moron with no hopes for the future. I could tell that the Casts tried to make the feel of the series and main character funny but it just came off as almost unbearably annoying do to the stupidity, random uses of uneeded stereotypes, cliches and pop culture references and Zoey's lack of real constructive thoughts. Zoey is the blueprint for a Mary Sue character. She's described as beautiful and exotic looking, has powerful abilities that out-do the rest of every other supernatural creature's talents, she always attracts the right friends, the right guys,is wonderful at everything she does and everything turns out simply amazing for her. But when they try to make Zoey seem relatable and inspirational,.........just no.Why would anyone care about the problems of such a stupid, selfish, judgmental bigoted character who is just "to perfect" for everything? The rest of the characters are annoying stereotypes and the plot just seems forced and predictable. Since i have the terrible habit of sticking to book series,i'm going to continue with the series simply because my friend claims that things change (I'm on Hunted:Book 5 by the way) but i must say that i have read My Little Pony fanfiction better than this
Zoey's morals & morality ratings are TOO LOW For me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She could NEVER Fill Ichigo Kurosaki's shoes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But, just like Message 41: by Therealbadkitty, I also "have the terrible habit of sticking to book series". Only, I'm on Book 03: Chosen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the first series that I have ever said enough too and stoped. It was that awful. I usually finish books.
okay, look, the thing is, it started out okay. Clichéd. The next two books went the same but were going downhill and then at Untamed it went in a downwards spiral. The books just became fillers and unnecessary deaths occurred.
With these books, Cast is just really in it for the money, dragging out her books to the fullest so that we are forced to buy the unimportant filler books just to get filled in on one or two things.
Also, the characters got really annoying.
Zoey is - for lack of a better word - a bitch.
And everyone else is just full on irritating.
Like message 43 says, the House of night series is the first series that i, too, have given up.
i love this series as well.. yes sometimes the writing is annoying as are the characters but honestly most series i find certain stories i like less then others but so far i am loving the whole series and all the characters.. i am excited to see how the series ends
Therealbadkitty wrote: "I think that the ideas used in the Casts take on vampire fantasy could have been fantastic, the idea had potential to be good but the writing ruined it all. It really bothers me how the authors try..."Hey now, you gotta love the bronies!
I feel that the first maybe four books were amazing, however, as soon as the sixth and seventh book came out, I was sick of this series. Now, they don't solve anything, the book is just basically just talking about their problem, and seriously! Zoey has been with, like five guys now! And one of them was a teacher! Anyway, so we had just got Zoey back to one guy (view spoiler) I am so annoyed that they are doing nothing to get rid of Neferet, and nothing is happening in the series.
Or how they travel to Sicily, but then have to go back to Tulsa. Then go to Scotland, but have to go back to Tulsa. Every time they do something, it gets interrupted by how they have to go to school, even when they leave the school they have to go to school?I feel most sorry for the nuns, weren't they meant to be doing some cat thing with Zoey? Did she forget them?
Siobhan wrote: "Therealbadkitty wrote: "I think that the ideas used in the Casts take on vampire fantasy could have been fantastic, the idea had potential to be good but the writing ruined it all. It really bother..."Well i did say they were better than this didn't I haha
Rachelle wrote: "I would be suprised if someone actually likes the WHOLE series and every book in it because I stopped reading the series after Burned. It's been so long since I've touched any of the books in the series but I read the first couple...the first being alright and then the story getting progressively worse and worse as the books went on. I can’t remember what book it was but I finished it and just had enough. I now think that reading it was a waste of time and I don’t really understand the people who actually enjoy the book.
This series would have been much better if Zoey was not in it.If aphrodite was the main protag maybe this would have been better. She is written as the slutty girl on campus, but she is brutally honest and I like that. Also she knows what she wants and goes for it.
I hated this book series, it was recommended to me by a co-worker and me being me and will read anything I picked it up. Open the book and read the first page and I was like fuck me, this is going to be a very shitty book....9 books later and my ass is still sore because yep...i got fucked with this one.
Zoey Redbird is quite possibly the dumbest, most ignorant, hypocritical protag I think I have read about so far. Everything about her pisses me off. I've been trying to remember if ever there as a girl during my years as a 14-17 year old that was as annoying and whinny as her and I can't think of any.
Do teenagers actually conversate that way? I don't remember being anything remotely close to the way these teens act.
This series is a money grab P.C. Cast and her daughter should given this idea to someone else and let them write the book. What interested me in this book to begin with was the concept. I liked the new spin on the vampire genre. A school, the tats, the different powers, it was a very interesting concept and thats how my co-worker got me, and thats how the publishers got us all. They got us real good didn't they?

I was just wondering if there was one person who truly loved this series and all of it's characters and ups-and-downs and it's too many books. Anyone totally in love with this series? If so, why? If not, why don't you like the series?
