Nas I read this recently and didn’t really enjoy it that much at all, I’m really surprised by all the hype it's getting.

To those who did like the book can you tell me why you liked it? (I’d like to know what I’m missing)

And to those who didn't like it can you also tell me why.

Thanks :)

Dee i liked it, but I wonder, could it be possible that you didn't enjoy it because of all the hype - sometimes, I find with books that are really hyped up/anticipated that they offer fall below what we expect them to be - whereas, if we had lower expectations, then it is better than we expect? does that make sense?

something_ You're not alone! (And finally, I'm not too! xD) I didn't like it much either. Mind you, I didn't exactly hate it, it was just... meh.

Personally, I found some things just too irrealistic to take seriously.

For instance, the economics tutor being the guy who saved her? I don't know if anyone was surprised, I saw that coming from a mile away. Also wasn't a fan of the almost instant love between them, or how it seems it took more time for Jackie to get over her boyfriend than to get over her almost rape.

My main pet peeve is probably the main guy. Yes, I know everyone loves him, and that he's protective, and endearing, and all... I liked him too tbh, but I didn't believe him for one second. I'll explain:

Positive points:
- Extremely good looks (to the point of people fawning over him)
- Strong and knowledgeable of martial arts
- Very intelligent (engineering student AND economics tutor)
- Amazing artist to boot

Negative points:
- He wears contacts so... I guess bad sight?

Genetic lottery anyone?
He's just too perfect to be believable, at least for me. Even his personality is pretty top notch. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for doing a lot of different things... but being amazing at everything? Maybe they could have him draw and being lousy at it, or mastering economics while struggling with engineering. Just, something other than perfection.

Yeah, I don't really get the hype either. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea :)

I'd also like to hear your thoughts on it if you don't mind. Curiosity ^^

EDIT: didn't realize it had gotten so long... sorry about that xP

message 4: by Dee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dee I can see how the engineering/art ties in - my roommate in college was an engineer - with some of the stuff she had to design - its believable...

but he also had his issues - the scars on his wrist and his history - which is what made him start taking martial arts because he didn't want to feel helpless and unable to help someone again

obviously, there is always going to be a suspension of disbelief in fiction - there has to be some kind of set up in it for the conflict to work out...because if he hadn't rescued her, then there would have been no story/Lucas - if her boyfriend hadn't dumped her, then she wouldn't have needed tutoring so no Landon...

message 5: by Vee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Vee Gretzinger i read it too, i thought it was decent... nothing compared to beautiful disaster though!! also... the whole landon/lucas thing... kinda obvi no offense Jacqueline but i figured it out from the start.

Dawn I didn't hear about this book much. It was on my recommendations, I read the over view and then read the book. I loved it. There wasn't a fake feeling to how she dealt with the almost rape and the rumors. Have you never known the gorgeous boy that all the girls fawn over and seems perfect? He has his issues, but if you over look them for his "perfectness" then I can see how you would miss it. I figured out pretty quickly that lucas was the tutor, but that made it fun, and a little more dangerous. Hence Operation Bad Boy Phase. Maybe the hype let you down, but not having heard of it, I was pleased with the final outcome.

Terri-Lynne Smiles I didn't care for the book myself. I found the first few chapters shallow and considered putting it down at that point but stuck with it, and I will admit it got better. Still, I kept hoping for a twist in the story but didn't find one. But my biggest problem was simply that I don't like "issue" novels, which is what this turned out to be. Given that, I had to temper my response to it. It's an okay novel, just not for me.

I totally agree with everything you are saying! I felt exactly the same way.
I found it unrealistic how hopelessly devoted he was to her, and how before he even knew her he was so in to her, like he had already fallen in love with her just by watching her in all the lessons. I found it almost like the author was trying to make a guy who fitted all the tick boxes for the perfect fantasy guy all girls dream of. Insanely hot. Mysterious. smart. Always there in times of need. Always says the right things. Dark secretive past. Driven mad and desperate by his love, like its hurt him – you get the idea. It felt like he had been written in a way that would make the book sell. Their four it felt hard to see him as a standalone character. He was just the boy who loves the protagonist. Everything he did/felt was aimed at her. He had nothing much to him but her. I wanted to see him and his life fleshed out more.
Jacqueline herself I couldn’t connect to, she just felt distant and robotic slightly. She was saying all these feels, they were just feelings I had heard before, written in the same way as other books like itself. She felt believable emotions they just weren’t expressed that well. For what she was going through I felt it should been written very raw, taking away all this fancy delicate stuff and just go full on hurt.
Other random point I’ll try to sum up quickly.
• I just wanted more to the story line
• It was a bit to the same to other things out there, could have been more individual
• Characters needed more character (if that makes sense...)
That wasn’t explained very well but I hope you get what I mean :)
Also it’s great to know I’m not the only one!

Swati it was a quick read, sweet and cute. i guess that's the main point nothing intense to keep thinking about the characters and i did enjoy reading it so its 50-50.....

Kim *Mo Chridhe* It was an okay read for me. I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it either. I found the story predictable, and the two main characters lacking the personalities I usually like reading about. I don't understand the hype, to be honest.

I completely agree. All of the "good" characters would always do no wrong and were always the victim while all the "evil" characters lacked any redeeming qualities and never strayed from that "wrong" path. It was too black and white making it very unrealistic--basically felt like a fairy tale to me. However, I believe this book is becoming so popular because when compared to the other books in this genre it's pretty much outstanding. But that's just my opinion since I've yet to come across anything with this type of setting that has been better than Easy.

" I've yet to come across anything with this type of setting that has been better than Easy. " - try reading The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis. It has depth, it is not black and white and the bad boy is not like the perfect boys we get to read about all the time. It is unlike anything else I have read, in a good way :D And it has ruined any other young adult book for me ... And the writing is beautiful (and original). Try it:)

I agree, I was looking for this huge plot twist, a huge shocker, and never found one. However, I think the general message is about rape and sexual assault on college campuses. So, I took away what I could.

Terri-Lynne Smiles Autumn wrote: "However, I think the general message is about rape and sexual assault on college campuses. So, I took away what I could."

Yes. Not a bad issue to take on, but it could have been made much more interesting and palatable by wrapping it into a better plot!

message 18: by ARB (new) - rated it 4 stars

ARB I completely agree. The reviews were so good. I kept waiting fort he book to climax, and before I knew it...I was 80% finished and I knew nothing was going to come of the book. It's not a bad story, just a boring story.

Gulliblei Amethyst-y wrote: " try reading The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis..."

Awesome! I'm always looking for new books to add to my to-read list. Thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely give it a try.

Vee Gretzinger If you want a good college romance read beautiful disaster! That book is amazingggg!!!

completely agree with u about the storyteller amazing read, read our a week ago and it still is in my head loved that book, but I do love Easy, yes it was predictable as far as the Landon/Lucas thing but not his past.

If I didn't have a mild OCD case I'd have stopped reading right after she didn't want to call the police on the rapist guy cause she didn't want to get the partygoers into trouble. What kind of a retarded way of thinking is that?!
Other than that, I really didn't find any of it believable enough even for a 2 star rating. Nor was I able to connect with the characters. Not even the hot guy (and I adore tattooed men).
So all in all, I honestly don't understand all the hype it's getting.
I expected so much more based on all the 5 star reviews and I actually felt really bad for disliking it so much, so I'm glad I'm not the only one. ;)

message 23: by Dee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dee honestly the not wanting people to get into trouble, doesn't surprise me at all - look at Speak - where she does call the police, for a completely different matter - and the subsequent treatment of her for that...

aimee (aimeecanread) I'm not alone? (*silently applauds self*)

Well, I found it highly unrealistic, lame and that I couldn't connect with any of the characters. I hate those books where I feel like I'm going to love it, then I end up wanting to chuck it across the room.

It was kind of like a cliche (or is it just me? I think I read too much published and unpublished novels) with lame, predictable twists.

I didn't like the main character at all, the love interest was okay, and Buck was just... well, we all know what he was.

All in all, I gave the book 1 star. I needed to be honest with myself - why give a good rating to something you didn't enjoy?

Mochaspresso Tiffany wrote: "I also don't get why people love this book so much. I do like the first parts of the book where Jacqueline was still emailing with Landon not knowing he's already Lucas and their back and forth ban..."

I agree with you about the attempted rape. He seemed to go along with her decision not report it a little too easily. I thought that given his background, he would have encouraged her more.

Diane I enjoyed the book.
I liked the fun emails between the characters and I really liked Lucas. He was torn between the teacher mode and being a "guy". She was wishy washy...true.
But overall a solid read.

Terri (N.J.) The email part of it was great. I enjoyed the book ! One of my favorites!

message 28: by Lupe (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lupe really thought it was great

Sleepy Absolutely loved it actually re read it a couple times already!!

Cynthia I just "liked" this book, definitely didn't love it. It just seemed to be missing that something special I look for in a book.

Amirah I. Re: is there anyone who didn't enjoy this book?

Me. Yep. It's me.

message 32: by Mony (new) - rated it 1 star

Mony Me .. I'm looking at all the positive reviews of this book and i was like Did I miss something?. They do not at all represent my experience of "Easy".
The only positive thing I can say about this novel is that it emphasizes the message that rape is never a woman's fault, which is an important message
other than that I would not recommend this book to anyone, although clearly it was enjoyed by many.

Mallory ~*Smut Pusher*~ I enjoyed the read. I was glad that they had larger messages/themes going on, e.g., rape, self-defense, etc. I also enjoyed that the ending wasn't the typical "We're freshman in college and we can't live w/o each other so we're getting married/having a baby." I've read quite a few YA reads where that's been the go-to ending and it's really disappointing. Did I LOVE this book? No. Would I would recommend it? Yes.

Olivia i enjoyed reading this book, but throughout the story i feel like there's something missing there, i dont know what that is but it quite make me stop to read it for a while at least, but overall it's quite make want to dream about landon tho lol

message 35: by Aurora (last edited Mar 06, 2013 06:34AM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Aurora Smith I didnt like the swearing, the un needed sex stuff. I loved the message but I cant give it to my 13 year old niece, or my 16 year old one. Their mothers will ring my neck. So message lost.

Frances I was very disappointed! Found it difficult to get into, particularly maybe because I'm English and found the school/college system difficult to follow, so wouldn't say it is a book that travels well. It was very disjointed in its writing. Although it was a good story line and made some good points, but having said that I found some parts of it hard to believe. There could have been more detail in the sex in the book, that was only touched upon, and left me wanting more detail.
