I just finished No Will But His by Sarah A. Hoyt. Where historical fact is conflicting, she seems to choose the option that makes for the most romantic story, even if many historians disagree with certain views. It bothers the historian in me, but makes for a good novel; and, it is fiction after all. I'll have a review up tonight.

Hi everyone
Wow, got some great recomendation here today...
I recently read The White Queen and I did enjoy it, but like someone before said, there is alot of mention of Witchcraft and also sometimes the details of the battles are really boring... still I really liked it.
I'm looking forward to reading The Boleyn Inheritance, so if anyone has read it, please give me your opinion?

I liked it too. It's one of the few PG books I can stomach. It has three great points of view (although I felt that AoC's point of view got tedious sometimes).
I'm also enjoying it so far, and the three points of view.
Aly I know what you mean. I thought after reading The Other Boleyn Girl I'd love all of Gregory's work, but I ended up only liking 2 so far.
Susanna, thanks for the opinion. :)
Any other good reads you'd recommend?

Yes, to both The White Queen and The Boleyn Inheritance.I enjoyed The White Queen so much,I've preordered Gregory's The Red Queen, the story of Margaret Beaufort.
The two Gregories that I most enjoyed were Virgin Earth and The Boleyn Inheritance. For historical fiction about the Tudor era, I think the novels I've most enjoyed are a series of historical mysteries - the Matthew Shardlake books, by C.J. Sansom. The first one is Dissolution. Henry and Catherine Howard are important characters in the third one, Sovereign.

I'm putting some on my TBR list :)
Katherine, I read the White Queen and enjoyed it very much, and I'm currently reading Boleyn Inheritance, and also enjoying it.
Annie, I've got The Virgins Lover, and will be starting that soon, cant wait.
Susanna, I've also got Virgin Earth, and I'm interested in reading something of Gregory that does not relate to Tudors or Royalty.
Thanks everyone again :)

Earlier in her career (Gregory, that is) she wrote the Wideacre Trilogy, three books not about royalty or the Tudors. They're long, but I have enjoyed them immensely.
I'm looking forward to trying "Threads the Reincarnation of Anne Boleyn" by Nell Gavin. If you can find a copy of "I am Mary Tudor" by Hilda Lewis, it is an excellent read.
'The King's Rose' by Alisa M. Libby. It's Catherine Howard's story and it's really good, I can't put it down and I only started it yesterday evening. I only have about 20 pages left!

I am starting this book next, good to hear that it's worth reading.
Snowclaw - of Shadowclan wrote: "And annie another good book to read is called the lady in the tower by jean plaidy."That one is on my reading list, so I should be reading it shortly!

I believe that it is generally accepted that Katherine actually did have an affair with Thomas Culpeper before her death, greatly leading to her execution. A letter was found in Thomas' room from the Queen, providing evidence. It is, however, possible that the evidence was planted as it often was in that time :)
Niecole wrote: "I'm looking forward to reading The Boleyn Inheritance, so if anyone has read it, please give me your opinion?"One of my favorites by PG :)
Deidara- of naruto- i love deidara!!!!!! wrote: "And annie another good book to read is called the lady in the tower by jean plaidy."I really enjoyed this one too, it had me in tears for sure.
I also loved reading The Constant Princess
I enjoyed all of her books but wasn't as crazy about The Constant Princess as I was about The Boleyn Inheritance or The Other Boleyn Girl. But, in fairness, that could be because I care more about the Boleyns than KoA :P
The Boleyn books were fantastic too, but I think I loved the Constant Princess so much because it was the first Phillipa Gregory book I ever read.
Ah, see that could be it for me, too. The first one I read was The Boleyn Inheritance and it's my favorite :)
Jennifer wrote: "Ah, see that could be it for me, too. The first one I read was The Boleyn Inheritance and it's my favorite :)"The Other Boleyn Girl was my first PG book but TBI surpasses it completely. Katherine Howard in that book is just FANTASTIC, I absolutely love her portrayal of her.
I may have to reread TBI this year. I loved that book and ya'll talking about it has inspired me to read it again haha!!
Aly wrote: "I may have to reread TBI this year. I loved that book and ya'll talking about it has inspired me to read it again haha!!"I've been thinking that too
Legacy: The Beloved Novel of Elizabeth, England's Most Passionate Queen -- and the Three Men Who Loved HerI noticed a lot of people metioned Legacy by Susan Kay. I see it's for sale again at amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Legacy-ebook/dp...
Not sure if the link will work, but it's in hard cover, soft and on the kindle!!!
Yes, Aly and Jennifer! Read it again! I read it recently and fell in love with it all over again. It's a bit inaccurate, sure, it IS PG after all, but it's a good read compared to the last book I read, 'Pour the Dark Wine' by Dinah Lampitt. She had Elizabeth I have no vaginal canal, just a 'mere dimple' as she oh so nicely worded it and Thomas Seymour was unable to have sex with her. So weird.
I KNOW!! It was definitely the craziest thing I have ever read in a Tudor novel. I had to re-read it a couple of times to make sure I actually understood it. I think the author was taking Elizabeth's nickname of The Virgin Queen a little too far!

Thanks Denise! I've heard so many wonderful things about this one :)

That being said, in the book I'm reading now (Elizabeth & Leicester: Power, Passion, Politics) it does mention rumours that Elizabeth wasn't 'properly' female and not actually able to have sex. I'll find the reference later and post it if anyone is interested.
Yesterday I picked up a library book, Rivals in Power: Lives and Letters of the Great Tudor Dynasties, edited by David Starkey. It contains chapters by different historians on various prominent families of the Tudor era, with letters and sidebars on related topics such as education, scaffold speeches, and the like. There's a lot of information packed into a book of less than 300 pages--thought some of you might be interested in it.
Bastard Prince: Henry VIII's Lost SonJane Boleyn: The True Story of the Infamous Lady Rochford
If you want to deviate from the usual bio's, wives & children biographies, try one of these 2. The first is about the only illegitimate son Henry VIII ever publicly acknowledged, the other is about the Sister in law of Anne Boleyn who contributed to Henry's case against Anne and she also was implicated in the down fall of Catherine Howard later as well.
(Sorry, I am new as well, did I enter this conversation too late?)
No, Kellie!! We are always looking for new recommendations!!! I've read the Jane Boleyn book. It's actually very good. Well researched. Not too much new info, but it's nice to read a biography that doesn't center around the wives ya know?
I just finished The White Queen by Phillipa Gregory. It is about the War of the Roses between the Lancasters and Yorks. It sort of leads into the Tudor dynasty. Sets it up if you will. It wasn't Gregory's best work, but I liked it well enough to recommend it.
Lizzy wrote: "My book suggestion is one of my all time fav books: The Autobiography of Henry VIII..."I absolutely loved that book. And what an excellent idea for writing it...as if he were writing it himself. It made it extra special.
I really enjoyed The White Queen to, it was one of Gregory's more easier reads

Didnt Henry parade her around court naked once ???
I'm still looking for the Red Queen!!!! I'd love to read it to
I hope to read it soon so i will let you know how it is. Another ive heard is really good is His Last Letter: Elizabeth I and the Earl of Leicester
Mmmm sounds interesting
Thanks Kate! I'd really appreciate it
I've seen that there is another book called The Red Queen, but its about some Oriental family
