Thanks for posting Colleen! That site looks awesome. Unfortunately, I tried to open it at work and had my speakers on. When I opened it the music started playing incredibly loud in my office! LOL

What happened to the chain?
I either did not understand the rules or the chain broke down, as it seems to revert to comments and discussion.

message 164: by Jennifer, Mod #5 (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 951 comments Erssie, we tend to get off topic a lot in this group :)

Do you have a book you'd like to recommend so we can get back to the chain?

message 167: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Totten (katherine42) I just finished "The Last Queen" by C.W. Gortner. I highly recommend this historical novel about Queen Juana of Castile. Anyone else read this? What's your opinion?

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Katherine, not yet, but it is on my TBR.

message 169: by Jennifer, Mod #5 (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 951 comments Haven't read it either but it's definitely on my TBR too. Thanks for your recommendation :)

message 170: by Wen (new)

Wen (thespoilingone) | 140 comments I posted this book on the thread for Mary Queen of Scots books but am putting it here too since it was really good. A Question of Guilt A Novel of Mary, Queen of Scots, and the Death of Henry Darnley It is done after Marys execution and told from the view of a woman trying to find out answers as to if the queen were guilty as charged.

I am also nearly done with The Spanish Bride A Novel of Catherine of Aragon This one while so far has not given me new information has been a very easy and nice read. Told from the view of one of her ladies in waiting. The story line is done very well.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Colleen - I love the Tudor only book site. It is now bookmarked, and I am sure will be damaging to both my TBR and my pocketbook. My husband is not thanking you, lol.

message 172: by Colleen, Mod #3 (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 1106 comments Tell your husband, Lyn, I'm sorry to enable and addiction but I am an addict too! teehee

Wen that book sound interesting, thanks for the link post! :)

I'm not really adding much of worth to this discussion unfortunately, but was skimming through it and just HAVE to add this in...
Henry Cavill as Brandon in The Tudors is amazing :)
That's all! If I think of or find a book chain that's not already mentioned I'll be sure to come back with it to make up for the lack of substance in this post.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2165 comments I am most excited - my mother found one, possibly two, unread Elswyth Thanes about the Tudors at the library today!

I just saw that book on amazon and wondered if it was any good, I'm glad you give it a good review.

Has anyone else read her tudor series?

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Colleen - my husband gave up on my book addiction a long time ago, lol.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I didn't get any Tudor books, but I did get money to spend on books, which I haven't decided how to spend yet.

message 189: by Rose (new)

Rose | 1 comments I highly recommend The White Queen by Philippa Gregory. This book is her newest. The book is about Elizabeth Woodville and her life. It is so fascinating to read the roots of how Tudor history came into being. It is a breath of fresh air and good reading from beginning to end. I got this copy from the library. I like to get them from the library and if I love them I buy a copy for my own library. This is a keeper people!!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Rose - I have pre-ordered it in trade paperback so that it matches my other Phillipa Gregory books. I can't wait.

message 191: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (chatternyc) | 178 comments I have to admit that I didn't finish the White Queen... Found the style irritating and there were outright errors of fact. It's one of the only books by Gregory that I just couldn't read at all. I'm hoping Red Queen will be better -- Margaret Beaufort is a very very intriguing character.

message 192: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Totten (katherine42) Rose wrote: "I highly recommend The White Queen by Philippa Gregory. This book is her newest. The book is about Elizabeth Woodville and her life. It is so fascinating to read the roots of how Tudor history came..."

I agree, Rose. I also loved "The White Queen". It opened a new door for me in British history. Since it is a novel, the inconsistency of facts didn't bother me at all.

message 193: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (chatternyc) | 178 comments Even when it's fiction (unless I'm reading about imaginary worlds), I like what I read to be consistent with the facts. Otherwise, it breaks my concentration -- that kind of reverie you go into when reading a good book -- as I go "what?? where did THAT come from?" That happened early on, when Gregory portrays the Woodvilles as still being Lancastrian loyalists years after they had changed sides, and become insurmountable when Jacquetta was accused/found guilty of witchcraft. In fact, she was explicitly acquitted in 1470. Obviously that's not going to bug a lot of readers -- just as it didn't bother me in TOBG (although i did irk a lot of people) that she had the birth order of the Boleyn siblings wrong. To me, it's a matter of how important the problem area is to the plot, and how major a rewriting of history it is, both in absolute terms and in the eyes of any individual reader.

message 194: by Marylou (new)

Marylou (loulu) | 164 comments I am reading good and not so good reports on The White Queen. I am not certain that I like Phillippa Gregory anymore after reading so many nonfiction books. I do like Legacy, a novel, though. So I don't know whether to order the Jacquetta book.

message 195: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (chatternyc) | 178 comments If you liked Legacy, try the Ivy Crown. It's about Catherine Parr, and it's well-written and really grabs the reader.

Misfit | 161 comments Suzanne wrote: "If you liked Legacy, try the Ivy Crown. It's about Catherine Parr, and it's well-written and really grabs the reader. "

I really enjoyed Ivy Crown, there's a whole lot more to KP's life than the average Tudor reader realizes.

PS, I did not care much for PG's The White Queen either.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Misfit - Somehow the fact that you didn't like The White Queen doesn't surprise me, lol. It doesn't seem like your type of book.

I got The Ivy Crown back when we were all talking about it, but have not gotten a chance to read it. I have it slated to read sometime during the next few months. I am really looking forward to it.

Kelly_Hunsaker_reads ... I am new here so if you want to ignore my POV tHat is okay with me. But I would like to say that I am among those who are iritated by books that stray too far from the truth. The facts are fascinating ... Liberties with them are needless.
