Content Advise on Reading List

My son has to make some choices off of a college reading list and I would love to read with him, but first I was wondering if anyone had content insight for any of the following:
A Raisin in the Sun
The Namesake
Enemy of the People
Bless Me Ulgima
Like Water for Chocolate
Paradise of the Blind
Their Eyes Were Watching God

Pretty sure A Raisin in the Sun is ok. I think a character considers abortion, but does not go through with it. I don't recall anything else, though it's been several years since I read it. There are 3 movie versions of it, as well--one from the 60's, starring Sidney Poitier as the main male character, and 2 tv movie versions, one from the 80's starring Danny Glover, and one from a few years ago starring Sean "Puff Daddy/P. Diddy" Combs.

I have not read any of the others on your list.

It's been a while since I read it, but The Namesake has sex scenes in it.

I read Their Eyes Were Watching God in my AP English class in HS. It has been a long time but I do not recall there being anything inappropriate in the book. I was even more particular then than I am now on what I would read. I remember thinking it was a good read. However, I am relying on my memory haha! Good luck!

I remember A Raisin in the Sun as being okay. Like Water for Chocolates has some explicit fantasy sex scenes that made me put down the book. I looked into both Bless Me Ultima and Their Eyes Were Watching God and remember discounting them for some reason, thinking they would not be appropriate to assign for reading material (I am an English teacher). I don't know anything about the other two. Happy researching!
