SOLVED. Seaside cottage haunted by ghosts [s]

This book has been on my mind for a while now and I can't seem to remember the title and Google cannot find it with my search terms. I also can't remember if it's horror or horror/romance (the latter I never read, but it feels like it may have been classified this way).

This is what I remember:

It takes place somewhere in the UK I believe. A woman leaves the city for a holiday at a remote seaside cottage. I think she's writing a book or trying to get some work done or running away from a bad relationship.

The book has flashbacks to some ancient time period of a warrior (or something) and his star crossed lover who were both killed.

Obviously the seaside cottage is now being haunted by one or all of these 'ancient ghosts', and when they meddle in the house, they leave cold, wet puddles.

There is a discovery on the beach of some ancient pottery or weapons or something related to the 'ancient ghosts'.

And I never finished the book so I'm not sure anything beyond this point.
