L.Y. Levand (lylevand) ...I called my blog My Random Life, and that's basically my topic, lol. I blog about lots of different things; you can take a look, if you'd like. I've been at it for close to a year, and my pageviews are hovering between forty and one hundred daily. I wish you luck! :)

Jenna Harte (jennaharte) | 19 comments Personally, I think that unless your books about about writing and publishing, you shouldn't blog too much about it. The goal of a blog/website is to attract your market. I write romantic mysteries so I want to attract people who like romantic mysteries, not people who want to write. I do occasionally blog about writing, but not too much (actually, I haven't been too good about blogging lately, which is a no-no). Instead I blog about anything I think romance/mystery lovers like me might enjoy.

In your case, if you plan to have a bunch of Virtual Vet books (I like the title), then a blog about animals, your life as a vet (Like how hard is it to put an animal down...must be so difficult?), etc is ideal. You're an expert and your blog is the place to showcase that. You can include a page (which you have) about your mom's memoir.

I suggest you put graphical links to buy your books in your sidebar on on the books' pages. People are attracted to book covers.

It can take time for a blog to work as a marketing tool. I write under a pen name and had to start everything (blog, twitter, facebook) from scratch. It's been slow going, but the people who are following me are true fans and often share my new books and will engage with me when I ask them questions.

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) Not a problem. :) I found this great blog tutorial-type thing that might help you out. Here's the link: http://www.blogmarketingacademy.com/

One thing that is nice about Wordpress is that you can categorize content, create a static page that is more about you or the things that you want to highlight and use that as your front page, and then create a menu that references your categories. That way, you only have to maintain one blog.

I've done a modified version of that at mine, http://rightthewriter.wordpress.com. I kept the front page for recent posts instead of making a static one.
