I've picked up a couple books at the library after returning my whole overdue stack. Just the first volume of a few mangas to try plus a genderbent modern retelling of Orpheus and a Stephen King novel off the new shelf that looked interesting enough. (Hope it's a good one for a first-time-reading-King-experience)

I read Inspector Floyd yesterday. It was awesome. I loved how the chapter titles rhymed in couplets. I do wonder, though, does Floyd ever really know what he's doing? o.O

Just finished a 6-volume post-apocalyptic horror manga series called King of Thorn. It was pretty decent! (Definitely seinen though)

And I started one called Train+Train but I can't find scans of it to finish it. (They only had 2 at my library and I checked out 1... but the only scans I found were for the first volume. =P)

I finished book four of SotD. :D I didn't enjoy it as much as the others, but it was still good. It was funny, and I was worried for Floyd's health. o.o

Book four seems to be the book all the fans disagreed on. I loved it because it was slightly different. Other people hated it for the same reason. Curiouser and curiouser...

I'm still reading the Tain. By which I mean I haven't made any progress because I had like five nervous breakdowns in one day over the weekend and I just ... didn't read. (Just as well I got a bit ahead in January, isn't it? This month has been SLOW for reading.) Might try and finish it in the next couple of days, though. Idk.

Not sure what to focus on next, since I still have 7 books in my currently-reading and I also kind of feel like joining in the Dystopian sprint a bit more, since I've only read one book. Hmm...

I've got myself into a kind of library-book logjam. I've got The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club by Dorothy Sayers, Regency Buck by Georgette Heyer and The Miracle of Dunkirk by Walter Lord waiting to be read, while I'm in the middle of Wodehouse's Jill the Reckless on my Kindle (with Heyer's short story collection Pistols For Two on the side).

When what I'm really in the mood for is a Louis L'Amour Western.

I'm reading Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) after really liking the anime... and yesterday while cleaning my house I randomly read Orfe by Cynthia Voight.

I didn't think I would like Orfe as much as I did. It had gross moments. The characters weren't perfect. But they were real, raw characters who had love and hope and sorrow. And it felt very right to genderbend Orpheus & Eurydice set approximately in the 1970's with rock bands and drug houses.

It talked about music and Art, love and choice, beauty and horror - the role of the Artist and music that burns the soul.

While I still prefer the Eurydice-centric play (titled, naturally, Euridyce) by Sarah Ruhl as the best adaptation I've read of the myth, this book was pretty amazing.

And now I've got to go copy and paste that all to the review box....

I finally finished Taliesin! That book was entirely too long. Now I'm working on the Pirate's Wish, which is due back next.

I'm about 10 chapters into Precisely Terminated by Amanda Davis (thanks to Aubrey). It's alright so far ... I think I'm just not into dystopians, minus a couple of exceptions. I'm sure it'll pick up soon though ...

I finished a couple of Hunger Games related nonfiction. The movie guides were awesome, they're going onto my wish list, but the nonautherized guides I read were hit and miss, IMHO.

I have started reading Supervillains of London, because I couldn't wait until next Sunday to read it in the car on the way to and from church.

He doesn't know, because he lost several years in limbo. But at the time he was kidnapped he was probably about 17, in earth years.

I like dystpopian, but Precisely Terminated didn't do much for me

I'm torn -- do I continue (re)reading Shade's Children, which I read years ago and have therefore forgotten, or do I temporarily abandon it in favour of Insurgent which just arrived in the post this morning? Or do I read either The Three Musketeers or Jane Eyre like I've been telling myself I will? Decisions, decisions ... advice appreciated :)

.. have fun with that! Nah, I'm kidding, it's great, but ... well, it's hard to get through. I managed it on my second attempt. I prefer The Children of Hurin -- it's a more developed version of one of the stories told in the Silm, and a lot easier to read. Oh, and shorter.

I think the thing about Silm is that you get introduced to a character, spend about four pages getting attached to them, and then they die. And that happens repeatedly for like four hundred pages. By the end of it you don't trust Tolkien enough to get attached to ANYONE.

Whew! I survived a week of intense getting-stuff-done-so-I-could-go-to-a-con. For the rest of February I will be reading a lot, but it's because I have 3 big test-reads. (How'd that happen all of a sudden? Why do all you people finish your books at the same time?!) So they might not count towards my shelf... but at least it's reading, right?

I haven't read any dystopian, only Historical and contemporary fiction.

Hmm, yeah. I hate to compare, but the heroine sort of reminds me a bit of Bryan Davis' Mara/Sapphira ... I think it's just because she's a slave and she lives in caves? I have a lot of homework to catch up on today, so I probably won't be able to finish it until later this week.

Bahaha, I was so bad this weekend and got caught up with Hunger Games fanfiction ... too bad that doesn't count as actual books. Happy Presidents Day! =P

Oh goodness, I state Joseph Adam's age somewhere, and Kate is two years younger than him, but I don't remember exactly.
