Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas, #1) Odd Thomas question

Thoughts as you read this book...

As I read this book, I had certain predictions about what would happen, who Bob Robertson was, etc. I'm curious to know what other people thought as they read this.

I suspected that the black hole in Robertson's house played a key role. Stormy's opinion held that the black hole was a porthole to hell, and she may very well have been right. At the time, I thought there was going to be a complicated ending dealing with time travel. In the beginning of the novel, Odd says that he plays with the tense of certain verbs, and then in the black hole he sees a future version of himself in the doorway. Koontz also stressed how Robertson was like "two selves." He was the slob who liked porn and innocent romance novels, as well as calculating and meticulous as seen by his office. I thought maybe some "other" version of Robertson might appear later in the novel, from another time portal.

Turns out, I was overthinking the black hole, and Robertson. Koontz utterly surprised me. Yes!

Please post your thoughts on the novel as you read it, and if any of your suspicions came true.

When I read it, i thought that the black hole/room wasn't really a black hole. He always said that the bodachs were attracted to negative energy, so I thought that the bodachs had congregated in that room, which is where Robertson was planning the murders and that Odd walked into them, especially since after he saw the bodachs swarm out of the house, and returned, the room was just a room.

Odd Thomas

I love Dean Koontz but I just could not get interested in this book.
I am not a fan of the "Odd" series of books he wrote.

I like the character Odd, and the way Koontz began the story, almost reading like a comic book. The unique way Odd Thomas sees the world, and how he dealt with his own dark past, gives the story an element of hope. I viewed the black hole like A.D. did, a dark energy brought in by the bodachs, or that's what attracted them. Either way we knew it was bad :)

Wow, to each his own. Odd is my favorite character all time. I love all the books, and always liked the humor in it. Wish there where more "odds" in this messed up society.

I have only cried twice in my life, the second time being at the end of this book. Easily by far Koontz's best book.

LOVE this series!

Judging by other comments, Oddie is too odd for some people, However for me, Odd Thomas is my favorite Koontz book, and favorite of most books and I have read over 1000 books. I really enjoyed Odds sense of humor, whenever he is in a desperate situation, he can usually talk himself out of it, usually in a very funny way. I just everything about his character.

This was the first Dean Koontz book i have read, i had to go and get the rest in the series! Odd is a fantastic character, you just connect with him from the off. So looking forward to Saint Odd!

I have several books by Dean Koontz and enjoyed this book as much as the others. I suppose my imagination is "way out there" because I can see this being a great television series. Absolutely loved Odd Thomas and all of his quirks.

I love Odd Thomas. I think, next to Einstein, he is the greatest character Koontz has created to date. I'm behind on the newest books in the series, but I read the first three. Elvis ghost is a fun touch to the plot. Wish I had a mind like Koontz!

The black room, to me, was a good idea wasted. It's as if Koontz got to the middle of the story and decided to jettison it completely from the story.

I really enjoyed Odd Thomas and then bought the rest of the series. I read Forever Odd and am currently on Brother Odd.

Is it me or in Forever Odd at least does nothing much actually happen and the book has too much padding rather than creating a good plot? I am worried the same is happening with Brother Odd? Opinions?

The worst book Koontz has ever written. I've tried repeatedly to get through it and can't get past the first 50 pages before putting it aside and moving on to something else.

I enjoyed Odd Thomas because it was different then what he usually writes. I wasn't surprised about his g/f dying since he did nothing but allude up to it the entire story line. I loved his friendship with Elvis, and I'm just wondering how he is planning on explaining the Bodachs, and the Blackhole/Room in the other books.
