The Seven-percent Solution is one of my favorite Sherlock Holmes books (non-canonical)! It was so entertaining and clever. I have never seen the movie version though....

I just started Dust and Shadow: An Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson and so far I think the author has copied Doyle's style very nicely. I see how I feel as things progress. I've been listening to all the Holmes stories on audio (some narrated by Ralph Cosham and others by Simon Prebble). As well, I recently watched several Jeremy Brett episodes so I've really immersed myself. Pure heaven.
Didn't really care for the movie so haven't read the book as a result. Maybe I should reconsider. I did read The West End Horror by same author and liked it.
They have just released the movie of this on blu-ray. http://www.popmatters.com/pm/review/1...

From the reviews the movie seems mediocre. Shame because I liked the book so much!
(got the news from always1895)
The people who didn't like the film were wrong. Nicol Williamson is fine as Holmes, and Robert Duvall proved ideal as Watson. It's well-written, well-directed, and has something to please everyone. No Sherlockian should miss it.
