First read this while I was in college. Seemed very enlightening to me at that time.
Since then, I've just enjoyed rereading a comfortable book and enjoyed picking up new twists each time I have read it.

Gave this a try because it was referred to in reviews as humorous sci fi. More like the humor of Star Trek episodes than Douglas Adams. -- SUMMARY: Enjoying his assignment with the xenobiology lab on board the prestigious Intrepid, ensign Andrew Dahl worries about casualties suffered by low-ranking officers during away missions before making a shocking discovery about the starship's actual purpose.

Dystopia set in Thailand, sea level has submerged much of the land masses and the population struggles to survive genetic engineering which continuously threatens the food supply. The title relates to a manufactured servant - genetically engineered young woman - who seeks freedom and autonomy. (I liked the setting and flawed individuals populating the book.)

Loved Mannie and Adam!
This future society has many flaws but it still very entertaining.

This mystery was set in two parallel realities that intersect at the City & the City. Police officers cooperate to solve murders.
Once again I like the characters China Mieville creates. You don't get an introduction to the concept of parallel worlds until maybe page 70, so if you're not accustomed to Mieville's macabre settings, you might get a bit confused. This was much more of a mainstream mystery than his usual novels.

This is the first book in the Honor Harrington series/universe. I really liked the development of Honor from a cadet to an effective officer. It seems like David Weber really understands many of the dynamics of the military officer and enlisted structure, even in a fictional future universe.
