Hi, could someone please remove the following books from the list 'Most influential books under 100 pages', because they have too many pages to qualify.

Quotations from Chairman Mao Tsetung
The Secret Book of Revelation: The Apocalypse of St John the Divine
Urne Burial
The Book of Psalms
The Book of Job
The Teachings of the Compassionate Buddha
Sic Et Non: A Critical Edition
Hamlet
The Bhagavad Gita
Laocoon: An Essay on the Limits of Painting and Poetry

Thanks!

Banjomike | 5166 comments Some editions of Mao are under 100 pages. Does that count.

Sean (nauru) | 3 comments Any edition that is under 100 pages according to Goodreads data is welcome. Editions that are 100 or more do not qualify for the list.

I think that means removing the exist edition and adding the new, smaller, one by using the ISBN.

Sean (nauru) | 3 comments Right, so who/where do I ask to have the above books removed? Am I posting this request in the correct forum?

I am not a librarian, and was informed that since I am not a librarian I do not have the ability to edit my own listopia list. Is that correct?

Banjomike | 5166 comments All I was saying was that some, at least, of the TITLES you list do meet the 100 page size limit in one form or another (excluding ebooks). Existing editions on the list cannot be edited so deleting & re-adding would be the only option in those cases, like:

Mao
Urne Burial
Book of Job
Bhagavad Gita
Hamlet

Removing the other books you list is probably reasonable but these five I would say not. They exist in editions of the correct size and deleting the editions currently on the list to replace them with others is, in my opinion, nitpicking and I won't do that.

I am removing the ones which clearly do not fit your spec for your list.

Banjomike | 5166 comments OK. Six deleted, the ones in my previous post are still there.

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments Personally, I think that it was the responsibility of the person adding the book to the list to choose an edition that meets the set criteria (>100pp).

I'll wait to see what opinions others might weigh in with, but if the list owner asks for books not meeting the criteria set up in the list to be deleted, I think that should be honored.

I didn't realize that the person who started a list could not edit it- no wonder so many lists are in bad shape! Between people who don't bother to read and/or follow directions, and author's spamming their books all over lists, regardless of appropriateness, shouldn't the person who started the list have the ability to keep it under control?

I don't disagree with that. I just consider deleting one edition of a book and all the votes it has received and replacing it with ANOTHER edition of the same book is going to be irritating to the people who have voted. We already know that a lot of Goodreads members don't care about specific editions so is it sensible to treat lists as though they do?

There is nothing stopping any librarian from deleting those books (even if they don't add replacements). The OP didn't ask for replacments just deletions.

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments Banjomike, you seem to be arguing with yourself here. = )

I never said anything about adding other editions, I simply said the request for deletions should be honored.

I will do the deletions, if needed, but I thought I'd solicit other opinions, since lists can't be reverted once deletions happen.

I don't know how many people revisit a list once they have voted on it, and IMO, if they get irritated if they do, they probably should try reading the list description and selecting a book that fits the stated criteria in the first place (or in the second place, if they choose to re-add it.) = )

Banjomike | 5166 comments Fair enough. Delete them.

message 12: by Banjomike (new)

Banjomike | 5166 comments OK, I have seen the light. I've deleted the books you requested and also checked every other one on the list.

The result is this:

Deleted books with their page count
Urne Burial 128
Expanded Universe 720
The Seamstress and the Wind 144
Anthem 256
The Book of Job 176
Hamlet (Cambridge School Shakespeare) 276
The Declaration of Independence 106
Quotations from Chairman Mao Tsetung 311
The Bhagavad Gita 160
Rip Van Winkle 110

The edition of Tao Te Ching is a Kindle ebook with no page count listed.

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments Thanks for taking care of that Banjomike - I'm just back online now and came looking for this thread to do the deletions if needed.
Hope you had a good weekend! = )
