Lori Once again I plan on reading 75 books off my current stacks, shelves and piles.

You and me both! I feel like I should pluck 25 books out of my piles and commit to reading at least those. I love getting books from the library and on sale but my poor little cases are going to start falling down :)

message 3: by Dawn Michelle (new)

Dawn Michelle | 3485 comments My current list on Goodreads of TBR are actually books that are on my shelf [or in my Kindle]. I HAVE to read those first. Though I am going to add 5 books to that list with the Christmas money I received. :-) I have one bookcase and that is stuffed. To the gills. Here is to getting some of it cleaned out! :-)

message 4: by Karol (new)

Karol | 221 comments Lori, best of luck with the challenge for 2013. I should stick to books I already own . . . but knowing me . . . (sigh)

message 5: by Lori (new)

Lori I am going to list all the books I read but only number the ones currently on my shelves. Maybe that way I will actually clear some of them off, of course then the new books I buy will be on my shelf.......

message 6: by Lori (new)

Lori #1 The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger Liked the story but found it hard to get into at first.
Rutland Place by Anne Perry, audio. Love this series.

message 7: by Lori (new)

Lori Where'd you go Bernadette by Maria Semple, audio, loved this story about a majoy miscommunication. The narrator was fantastic.
Smash Cut by Sandra Brown, Kindle, great suspensful story, I couldn't read fast enough.
#2 Peril in Paperback by Kate Carlisle, love this series and always eagerly await the next book.

message 8: by Lori (new)

Lori #3 Due or Die by Jenn McKinley, off my shelf. Loved this story, I can't wait to get the next book. Cozy mysteries are definitely my favorite genre.

<3 The Time Traveler's Wife! But there were some sticky spots in it.

message 10: by Lori (new)

Lori #4 Notorious Nineteen by Janet Evanovich, new yes but it was on my shelf so it counts. Loved it, I know the stories are the same and follow the same formula but I love catching up with Stephanie and Granma Mazur, I really love seeing Ranger...sigh!

Bluegate Fields by Anne Perry, Bipod, another great Pitt mystery! This time a tutor is accused of having an indecent affair with a pupil and then murdering him. When Charlotte and her sister get involved the truth comes out!

Moon Island by JR Rain, Kindle. I love the idea behind this series and I feel like it's been too long since there was a novel, too many short stories. It was nice to see the plot progressing and I look forward to the next novel.

message 11: by Lori (new)

Lori 14 by Peter Clines, this was an audio book. Loved it! I thought it was going to be horror but it was more scifi. I was so excited at the end I stayed up an extra hour just so I could finish listening to it before I went to bed.

message 12: by Lori (new)

Lori #5 Tough Customer by Sandra Brown, this was off my shelf and it was Ok, I much preferred the first in the Mitchell series.
#6 Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs, loved it! I will admit I have loved all her books. This is just one series I can't put the book down until it is finished.

message 13: by Lori (new)

Lori An Open Book: A Mystery by Sheila Connolly, kindle short. This was a good story about a retired teacher found dead on a walking trail. It was quick and light to read. This story does not tie in to any other series by this author.

message 14: by Lori (new)

Lori Speaking from Among the Bones by Alan Bradley, Bipod.
I love this series, Flavia is a great character and the things she gets up to makes me glad she is not my daughter. This book ended with a cliff hanger that left me even more anxious than normal for the next book in the series.

message 15: by Lori (new)

Lori What a Ghoul Wants by Victoria Laurie, love this series! This time MJ and crew were in a haunted castle in Wales. (Library book)

Witch Weight by Caroline Mickelson, this was a free novella from Bookbub and it was a quick read with a cute story line. (Kindle)

Odd Hours by Dean Koontz, I guess I had read this book in 2010. I didn't remember it at all, now that I have reread it I can see why. (Library)

message 16: by Lori (new)

Lori Love in the Afternoon by I don't remember, this was a freebee from Audible. It was a cute story and I liked it. (Audio)

Buried in a Book by Lucy Arlington and Every Trick in the Book by Lucy Arlington. These were both library books and I loved them. This 40 something single parent is suddenly unemployed and gets a job as an intern working for a group of literary agents.

Odd Apocalypse by Dean Koontz, really disappointed in this one. I used to love the Odd books and now they are just weird. (Library)

The Lincoln Lawyer and Lost Light by Michael Connolly, both of these were audio books. Loved them both! I can't decide which character I like more Micky Haller or Harry Bosch.

Book, Line and Sinker by Jenn McKinley, back to my favorite librarian! Loved this story, great mystery and lots of action. (library)

A Killer Read by Erika Chase, this author was new to me and I did have trouble at first getting all the characters straight in my mind. I quickly was sucked into the story and ended up loving it. (Library)

message 17: by Lori (new)

Lori As you can see none of my latest reads are coming off my shelves. I need to quite getting so many library books but I just can't help myself.

message 18: by Lori (new)

The Lincoln Lawyer was a great movie! :)

message 20: by Lori (new)

Lori Read and Buried by Erika Chase, library book, great story.

Sad Desk Salad by Jessica Grose, library book, the title caught my eye, ok story.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, Kindle, really liked to see the story progress.

The Silence of the Llamas by Anne Canadeo, library book, loved seeing my knitting friends again.

India Black by Carol Carr, library book, I liked India and really enjoyed reading this book.

message 21: by Lori (new)

Lori Once again my shelves didn't get touched! But I got some great books from the library.

message 22: by Lori (new)

Lori The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling, library audio book. I really liked this story, it was by no means happy or pretty but I loved how all the different characters were affected by the death of a community leader and how they all reacted.

message 23: by Lori (new)

Lori Strange Neighbors by Ashlyn Chase, library. I liked the idea of this story, a group of supernatural beings all living in a brownstone. But I felt like the author was trying to shove too much information in this first book and that left some gaps in the flow of the story. That being said I will get the next book from the library when I return this one.

message 24: by Lori (new)

Lori India Black and The Widow of Windsor by Carol Carr, library book. I like the character of India and the ending was very intriguing. Looking forward to the next book.
The Azalea Assault by Alyse Carlson, library book. I had a hard time liking the main character in the book. Maybe it's just me so I will read the next book in the series and see if she's less annoying to me.

message 25: by Lori (new)

Lori The Reversal by Michael Connelly, BOCD-Library, this was more about Mickey Haller but Harry Bosch was still in the story. I loved it!
#7 Summer at Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs, shelf. Cute story, I like the characters and really need to read the rest of this series that is currently on my book shelf.
Fatal Fixer-Upper by Jennie Bently, library. This book caught my eye from a review of Vickie's, since we like the same books I checked it out. I loved it!! I can't wait to read more books from this series.
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter, BOCD-Library, the story jumped back and forth in time periods and maybe as an audio book that made it harder to follow. I did like the story though.

message 26: by Lori (new)

Lori Till Death Do Us Purl by Anne Canadeo, Library book, I like this series and the characters.
Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen, BIPOD, loved this story, the characters are great and the narrator is fantastic.
Spring Fever by Mary Kay Andrews, Library book. Liked the story, MKA is one author I can count on to deliver a book I enjoy.
The Werewolf Upstairs by Ashlyn Chase, Library book.
I liked this story more than the first in the series.
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, Kindle. I really enjoyed this story.
India Black and the Raja's Ruby, Kindle. This was a short story that filled in some background information on India, I liked it.

message 27: by Lori (new)

Lori Royal Pain by Rhys Bowen, Bipod. Loved this story as much as the first!
The Winter Lodge by Susan Wiggs, Library book. I liked this second story in the series and luckily I have number 3 sitting on my shelf waiting for me!!
The Narrows by Michael Connelly, BOCD-Library. Another Harry Bosch, loved it!
The Vampire Upstairs by Ashlyn Chase, last book, tied up several story line so I guess she won't be writing anymore with these characters.
Royal Flush by Rhys Bowen, Bipod. I have been getting a lot of walking done so I can listen to these books. I love them!!

message 28: by Lori (new)

Lori #8 12th of Never by James Patterson, I really enjoy the women's murder club, but something felt off with this story. I still enjoyed it though.
The Closers by Michael Connelly, BOCD-Library, Harry Bosch is back on the job!
Going, Going Ganache by Jenn McKinley, Library I love these books, they always make me hungry for cupcakes, cake and of course ice cream.
Royal Blood by Rhys Bowen, Bipod. This time Georgie goes to a royal wedding and there may be vampires..... loved it!

message 29: by Lori (new)

Lori The Redbreast by Jo Nesbo, this is the first Harry Hole book in English and I really wish the first 2 Harry Hole books had been translated as well. I felt at times I may have been missing something important from his history. Having said that I really enjoyed the story and will get more from this author.

The Unexpected Mrs. Polifax, Bipod I had read all these books several year ago and saw this as a deal on audible. I had to get it and enjoyed listening to it as much the second time as the first.

#9 Buried in a Bog by Sheila Connolly, shelf. This is the first in a new series from this author. I really liked it! I would buy the new one when it comes out.

message 30: by Lori (new)

Lori A Modern Witch by Debra Geary, Kindle. This was a freebe on my kindle and I did have a hard time getting into the story. I did end up enjoying it but won't rush to get any more.

Echo Park by Michael Connelly, BOCD-Library Harry is working with Rachel unofficially and it is really good.

#9 Bones are Forever by Kathy Reichs, shelf. I loved this story, since I am from Edmonton and have been to Yellowknife it was even better!

India Black and the Shadows of Anarchy, Library. I finished this in one very long sitting. I couldn't put it down I was enjoying the story so much.

The Overlook by Michael Connelly, BOCD-Library Harry has transferred divisions and he ends up working with the FBI again, but they are on the wrong track and Harry is awesome, again!

message 31: by Lori (new)

Lori Monument to the Dead by Sheila Connolly, library. This is probably my least favorite series by this author, I don't know why. Having said that it was a good story with a twist.

Naughty in Nice by Rhys Bowen, Bipod This time Georgie goes to Nice and loses the Queen necklace and is accused of murder, great story!!

message 32: by Lori (new)

Lori As you can see I have read almost 65 books but only 9 have been off my shelves, sigh. At least I support my local library, a LOT!!

You sure do! Sorry you don't seem to be getting through your physical pile, but at least you're reading good books!

(Also, it looks like you've actually read 10 from your shelves... in the last couple updates you used #9 twice.)

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments Lori wrote: "As you can see I have read almost 65 books but only 9 have been off my shelves, sigh. At least I support my local library, a LOT!!"

But at least you are reading from your pile! (I think everything I've read this year has been a new edition to my pile... I really need to dig into my older stacks!)

message 35: by Lori (new)

Lori Charlene, thank you for pointing that out. Now I'm at 10!!!

message 36: by Lori (new)

Lori #11 Starting Now by Debbie Macomber, shelf. I really enjoy reading DM's books, they always leave me satisfied. This story was no exception.

Unseen by Karen Slaughter, library. I think Will Trent is my favorite character, I really enjoyed seeing Lena again and I had an overwhelming urge to tell Sara to get over it already!!

Sweet Salt Air by Barbara Delinsky, library. I loved this book, if I could have packed a bag and gone there I would have.

Nine Dragons by Michael Connelly, library-BOCD. I like Harry Bosch and this book was good, I will say that it will be interesting to see what happens to Harry now, I don't want to say more and give anything away. I was so excited to see Mickey Haller, even just briefly.

message 37: by Lori (new)

Lori While We Were Watching Downton Abbey by Wendy Wax, Library. Loved this story, I couldn't put it down and finished it in one day. I love the idea of getting together each week to watch Downton Abbey and the themed snacks were wonderful. I had several friends read this book as well and we liked it so much we are planning our own "high tea" for the season premiere next January.

message 38: by Lori (new)

Lori Cast On, Kill Off by Maggie Sefton, Library. I have read all the books in this series as they come out and I enjoy the characters. It makes me wish I had a little knit shop close by that I could pop into.

message 39: by Lori (new)

Lori The Blue Ribbon Jalapeno Society Jubilee by Carolyn Brown, Library. This was such a cute story and it reminded me of growing up in a small town where everyone knew everyone else's business, or so they thought.

message 40: by Lori (new)

Lori Vampire Games by JR Rain, Kindle. I have read all the Samantha Moon stories because the first few hooked me, I have to say I'm fascinated by what is going to happen next.

message 41: by Lori (new)

Lori The Twelve Clues of Christmas by Rhys Bowen, Bipod
I loved this story, and there was Darcy! Lots of Darcy, plus murder, couldn't have been a better combination. Luckily the next book has just been released so I don't have to wait!

message 42: by Lori (new)

Lori Ladies Night by Mary Kay Andrews, Library. I have to admit when I first started reading this book I thought that the last think I wanted to read about was a woman with a cheating husband who also was screwed out of all their money and belongings. But I kept reading and started meeting the other characters in the book, I ended up loving this story. I'm glad I didn't quit after the first couple of chapters.

message 43: by Lori (new)

Lori I'm now up to 73 books total, but only 11 off my shelves. I guess I need to quit going to the library, but I can't.

message 44: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Lori wrote: "I'm now up to 73 books total, but only 11 off my shelves. I guess I need to quit going to the library, but I can't."

Now the real question... have you *added* more than 11 books to your shelves this year?

message 45: by Lori (new)

Lori Ah now Charleen that is the question, unfortunately I have added more than I have read and that isn't even counting on my Kindle. I think the solution is that I have to quit work, that is the only way I will have time to read all the books that I want to read. LOL

message 46: by Elyse, Moderator (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 8830 comments Mod
That is also my solution, Lori, as I've just discovered the awesomeness of NetGalley (Thanks Charleen!). I said that exact thing to my husband last night. I need to quit work and read all the time. :)

message 47: by Lori (new)

Lori Elyse I just checked out Netgalley, thats just what I need (said with great sarcasm), lol.

message 48: by Elyse, Moderator (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 8830 comments Mod
Lol, I know right? It's pretty dangerous!!

message 49: by Lori (new)

Lori Even though I have now read 91 books, I have not reached 75 off of my shelves so I plan on staying as not completed until I can get more of my own books read.

message 50: by Lori (new)

Lori A Fatal Fleece by Sally Goldenbaum I really like cozy mysteries with knitting in them and this series is no exception.
