Clint Murphy (clint_robert_murphy) | 10 comments If anyone has good, but likely obscure, Fantasy selection recommendations, that would be much appreciated.

It feels like sometimes I'm running out of things to read unless I'm willing to change Genres, heaven forbid that.

I didn't expect to be off to this quick of a start - the Alera Codex is simply amazing.

Highly recommended.

Loefster Yeah, Jim Butcher! I plan on reading Codex Alera.

Clint Murphy (clint_robert_murphy) | 10 comments @ loafster, it's been some time since I've been this blown away to push that hard through a series. Ending was alright, but first 3-1/2 books were great.

@Jess, thanks but I think it's now over as I'm exhausted getting through those ones.

That said, I'm 25% through Book 14 of the Wheel of Time, so maybe it isn't totally finished ;-)

Clint Murphy (clint_robert_murphy) | 10 comments Strange,

The last few books, and the current one on Buddhism as well, were research for a concept I'm looking at with my Sister.

In reading them, I'm actually becoming quite side-tracked in my appreciation for Buddhism and may pursue this more fully.

Anyone else had that happen to them?

Clint Murphy (clint_robert_murphy) | 10 comments Well, Awakening the Buddha within really did slow me down from the original January pace of a book each day (yes, I realize that was likely impossible to keep up with employment, children and life).

What really slowed me down though was how much I appreciated the content, how I identified with the material, how it made me re-examine how I've lived life, thought, felt.

The only book that made me really look inside and assess my behavior / mind-set prior to that was Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy, which I would recommend to anyone. These two books in conjunction will change me permanently as a person.

Anyhow, pace picked back up this weekend as I was able to read two books over the weekend, with one of them being an okay sequel to a first book I liked (The Last Four Things, sequel to the Left Hand of God) and the Red Knight, which is a first Fantasy book by a historical fiction writer. To say I enjoyed this book would be an understatement, it was a great read and I look forward to Book 2.

Clint Murphy (clint_robert_murphy) | 10 comments Nothing like a good series to get you pushing through in a book challenge.

Michael Sullivan's Riyria series was quite a solid and quick read - definitely recommended.

Is it cheating to count the books individually even though Orbit packaged the books into 3?

Given the original intent was 6 books and they're broken out in the books, I'm going with that.

Alison G. (agriff22) | 543 comments If it was me I would count that book into 3 books. If it is 3 different books in 1. Its up to u though!
