Alisa @Sara....you're quoting the Lego movie? I loved the part where the girl leaves the nice Lego boy for Batman & says "I have to go with him. He's dark & broody.". That made me LOL.

message 1855: by Sara (new)

Sara | 860 comments I loved the Lego movie. I'm always singing the "Everything is Awesome" song. Loves of favorite parts but three that stand out: Batman is a musical artist - "I'm an orphan", Batman's "first time!" after throwing a dozen or so batarangs, and Superman's "I super-hate you right now" to Green Lantern.

There were lot's of really funny lines in it. My kids kept shushing me on the stuff that went over their heads. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

LastBreath (last_breath) | 242 comments From this group, nearly 5 days worth. A moderator from another group said she was having problems last week. It's kind of been the general consensus thru the group. I might need to email the GR team :(

Sandra | 4734 comments Check the Feedback Group first, there could be a thread about it.

Notifications have been buggy over the last 18 mths or so, on and off, but I hadn't heard of any lately, so just assumed all was good.

Raymond Mathiesen (raymondmathiesen) | 16 comments Pest On The Run by Gerry Burke – Book Review
Reviewed by Raymond Mathiesen
4.5 out of 5 stars

Big trouble and light hearted investigations…

A beautiful stage show star, come whore house madam, is suddenly foully murdered, despite her apparent gangster protection. A disgruntled Japanese business tycoon hires a hit man to assassinate Australia’s Prime Minister. An unbeatable game show contestant takes a recreational bungee-jump, only to have her rope break in what her friend thinks is dubious circumstances. Enter the low-life world of Paddy Pest, sometimes Private Investigator and sometimes secret agent for Australia’s spy bureau ASIO. Pest is based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, though is very frequently an international traveler. He is a master of dubious disguises, and often manages to solve the case despite his shortcomings. Here is a world where virtually everybody has a rancorous underbelly, and where murder is a common life event, but where good will eventually win out (even if by fluke). These humorous short stories will beguile you, entertain you and make you chuckle. Gerry Burke’s Pest On The Run: More Humorous Short Stories From The Paddy Pest Chronicles (iUniverse, c2012) is ideal for the lover of crime and murder mystery tales, but will also suit busy people looking for a witty amusement to fill a free hour or two.

How were those? I keep thinking about checking them out, as I like her writing as Shiloh Walker.

Sara | 860 comments I really enjoyed the series. Kit may be the only urban fantasy heroine more broken than Chess from Downside Ghosts but she always struggles back onto her feet. The third book in the series had a plot twist behind the creation of the supernatural races that I didn't see coming.

message 1869: by Mike (new)

Mike | 353 comments I've heard some people say that the main character is too overly broken and that some of the violence against her is too graphic. Yea or nay?

message 1870: by Sara (new)

Sara | 860 comments Kit is broken but she gets back on her feet. The ending of the second book was a very traumatic experience for her and it would have been completely unrealistic if the third book started out with her being on her feet and ready to go. Throughout the third book she continues to make small steps on her way to recovery. As for the violence - I didn't think it was overly graphic. Kit has led a very hard life and she gets into several fights with supernaturals who use their claws and teeth but I think the critics would be referring to the end of the second book - without spoiling anything - the situation wasn't glamorized and we didn't get paragraphs of details. Mainly, we saw the aftermath and it focused on Kit's emotional state.

message 1871: by Mike (new)

Mike | 353 comments I think you are right about the critics and the second book being their problem. Thank you for giving me your take on it. I put more stock in your opinion over those of random reviews, and it has me leaning more toward buying this series. Thanks again.

Mike | 353 comments Finished The Darkest Gate (Descent, #2) by S.M. Reine and The Emperor's Edge (The Emperor's Edge, #1) by Lindsay Buroker loved both. Started Bride of Death (Marla Mason, #7) by T.A. Pratt , Fantasy in Death (In Death, #30) by J.D. Robb , and Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4) by Dan Brown . Couldn't decide what to read so we'll see which ones take.

I loved this book - it's a combination of Greek mythology and a murder mystery.

Sara | 860 comments It's excellent. I started and did not want to stop until I had finished - and then I wanted the next book in the series asap. Unfortunately, it hasn't been published yet.

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments Wow I haven't posted in awhile. Anyway I read Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs and loved it of course. Then read The Fault in our stars because it looked good and it was. Now I'm reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeanine Frost and liking so far. I also wish that you could tag/link books on the tablet/smartphone version of Goodreads like you can on the computer.

Sara | 860 comments Finished WebMage (Webmage, #1) by Kelly McCullough , re-read Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne and Hexed (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #2) by Kevin Hearne

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments Finished Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress World, #2) by Jeaniene Frost and I liked it. Loved getting to know Mencheres better. And I seriously can't get enough of anything related to Cat and Bones.
Now I'm giving Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep a chance because I saw that it was on one of our monthly things (can't remember which one) and it's been on my Kindle for awhile. It's kind of slow right now but i'm hoping it picks up soon. Seems to have the potential to be a really good series.

message 1882: by Sara (new)

Sara | 860 comments The first book is the weakest in the series but it improves with each installment. I really enjoy the series.

LastBreath (last_breath) | 242 comments I just finished reading Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine and I have to say - hell-to-the-muddah-fuggin-A! I seriously can't remember the last time I turned violent, while reading, if anyone made the mistake of interrupting me. It may not appeal to others, but for me, it's the most delectable lemon meringues, or all lemon meringues :)

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments Sara wrote: "The first book is the weakest in the series but it improves with each installment. I really enjoy the series."
Okay good to know. I'll try to stick it out then. Thanks.

Sandra | 4734 comments I'm reading Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2) by Larissa Ione which is good but I'm finding slow going, so to lighten it up I'm also reading the fluffy The Accidental Werewolf (Accidentals, #1) by Dakota Cassidy At the beginning the main character reminds me of Queen Betsy.

Mike | 353 comments Finished Fantasy in Death (In Death, #30) by J.D. Robb , Rock 'n Roll Heaven by Shawn Inmon , Bad Doctor by John Locke , and The Beam The Complete Second Season Collection (Books 7-12) by Sean Platt .

Angie | 419 comments I'm having a deliema, I can't decide if I want to read Chloe Neill's YA books or read LKH's Merry Gentry series again in preparation for the new book on next Tuesday. Or something entirely different. I just finished the Chicagoland Vampire series for a second time, in prep for that new book in August, and I truly hate ending a series, even if I know it's not really done and another one is coming very soon. BAAAAHHHH!!! Sorry, I'll try to contain my emotions now ;-)

Sandra | 4734 comments LOL Angie!

message 1889: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I decided on the Chloe Neill YA books, so I'm reading Firespell right now. Well, looking for something to fix in a bunch of cookbooks in between reading it anyway.

message 1890: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments I enjoyed Firespell :)

message 1891: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I'm at 40%, and though it's no Chicagoland Vampire novel, it's still really good. Top notch for a story about a 16 year old girl. Of course there's so many questions right now, I wouldn't be able to put it down even if I hated it!! ;-)

LastBreath (last_breath) | 242 comments Making my way through Jennifer Esteps, Touch of Frost - Mythos Academy. I need to finish this before the end of the month for both the AOM and May Hello/Goodbye Challenge

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments I am having a hard time reading Spider's bite by Jennifer Estep I don't know why the plot seems good but I can't find myself really relating to Gin. Is the series worth fighting through the first book?

message 1894: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Walker | 70 comments Hey Erica the first of the book was hard for me too. But once I got into more I really enjoyed it.

message 1895: by Angie (new)

Angie | 419 comments I've found that true with many series. I may check out Jennifer Estep after I'm done with The Dark Elite and Merry Gentry reread and new book. I'd thought about checking her stuff out before but got distracted by the gazillion books I already have on my kindle. Whoever showed me how to look for free kindle books is an evil evil person! But at the same time I love her to death for pointing me to the light!!

message 1896: by Brenda (new)

I've read up to book #6 and have really enjoyed the series. I love Gin and company and the overall story arc is really good.

If you like audiobooks, I can recommend listening to it. Lauren Fortgang is an excellent narrator and she has become Gin for me. This may help if you are having trouble liking the character.

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Finished Wild Wolf (Shifters Unbound, #6) by Jennifer Ashley Monroe (Skin Walkers, #4) by Susan A. Bliler

Wild Wolf was very cute I loved the cubs and while I still don't love Graham I do see his point of view a little more clearly.

Monroe was just meh.

I noticed a pattern with me and male heroes...typically the top alpha in PNR their romances never quite live up to what my imagination...I am starting to think I have the problem.

I thought the cubs were the highlight of the book.
