What did you think?

message 1052: by Sara (new)

Sara | 860 comments I enjoyed parts of it and other parts I didn't care for. I love Beezle - I have a fondness for gargoyles in general - and I liked Maddie. I liked the portrayal of the fallen angels - not outright evil but cold, imposing, and with a different set of morals. I found Evangeline's backstory intriguing. I didn't care for the instant love connection with Gabriel - unless there's a reason for an instant bond (for example - Rule and Lilly's mating bond in the World of the Lupi series) I prefer a slow development over the course of a book/series (Curran/Kate, Jeremy/Jaime, Adam/Mercy, Toby/Tybalt, Rachel/Trent, etc) - it's more satisfying and realistic. I prefer to J.B. to Gabriel anyway. The whole "let me pull a new power out of my back pocket" each chapter got old fast but if in the next book, with Evangeline gone, she has to struggle and actually learn how to use her powers I'll withdraw that complaint.

Bottom line - the series has potential but I didn't feel the need to purchase the second book in the series immediately to find out what happens next.

I really enjoy the Elemental Assassin series on audio...it just drives me nuts how much the author repeats herself but what can you do :-)

message 1063: by ♥ Ashleigh ♥ (new)

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) finished The Gathering Storm (Katerina, #1) by Robin Bridges I loved it!! im something of a fan of Russia, so this was a great book for me!!
now reading Kingdom of the Wicked (Skulduggery Pleasant, #7) by Derek Landy which im actually really enjoying, I was a tad concerned it would be really immature but I think its quiet adult for a YA book.

I don't notice JE's repetition much with the pb, I must just skim over those bits without realising.

It seems to be with the eye color and I notice it doesn't happen as much in the later books as it did in the early ones.

message 1068: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Yes, I remember at the beginning of the series there was a lot of talk about the repetition, but I honestly didn't notice it then until people started talking about it. LOL.

I get what you mean. There are some series that I can't read more than one book at a time otherwise they irritate me.

It was on my TBR list for a while and the only reason I brought it to the top of the line was because a friend of mine started a Group for the Moonlight series w/ the author's name and book 1 is this month's read. I read book 1 last weekend and this weekend I'm starting book 5 Hunter of Shadows (Moonlight, #5) by Nancy Gideon .

Do look it up and join the group to discuss after you read.

I really have a hard time with that in a book series like this. I think it's safe to assume by book 9, we all know your story. We know about your past, we know how Finn is a lady killer who likes fine things, we know you're the Spider...let's get to the story. I like the series on a whole, but the repetition does drive me nuts. JE isn't the only author to do it, I get recounting maybe some events that have happened (Briefly!), but wow, let's assume people aren't reading book 9 and expecting to just move on from there.

I didn't think that series was as book as her Shifters ones. The premise was a good one, but it felt like they are lacking something, not sure what though.
