Let us know how the Nightside one is. I'm curious about that one. I hadn't heard of the Linnet Ellery series. That looks good. I'm going to check that out.

I liked the Kitty book, but hated how she was away from her pack and the other characters we have come to love.

Are the Kitty Books any good? I just realized I have one on my bookshelf (don't remember buying it) and I looked and it's the first in the series so I'm thinking about reading it but I don't know anyone who has read them.

I finished

Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost and now I'm reading Bone Crossed (Mercedes Thompson, #4) by Patricia Briggs

I really like the series. Kitty really changes, the person she is in the first book is so different from who she is in the last book. I like that we get to see her change, grow stronger and buck the system.

"Box Office Poison" is the sequel to "This Case Is Gonna Kill Me" - I really enjoy the series - to me, it's similar to the Edie Spence series in that the main heroines aren't your typical urban fantasy heroines. Linnet's a lawyer and Edie's a nurse - neither possesses any mastery of the martial arts or magical skills but they find a way to save the day with the abilities and skills they do possess.

I've read the first several chapters of "Something From The Nightside" - it's very intriguing so far - lots of hints about the main character's past and parentage. The 80's song "One Night In Bangkok" became stuck in my head when they entered the Nightside: "One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble..." quickly followed by the Doors' "People Are Strange".

Alisa I just finished Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee which was chosen for me in a challenge in another group. I had avoided it when it was one of our BOM because it was labeled YA & that's not my thing. Well that was my bad. I LOVED this book. I must apologize to the YA gods for unfairly dismissing their book. (In my defense it wasn't really a YA type book. The girl was 17 but that was all that was ya-ish) It's basically like a zombie apocalypse type book but instead of zombies it was angels who destroyed the world and humans. The characters were really interesting and the world building was good. The minute I finished it I was looking for the next book in the series. (which sadly doesn't come out until Nov).

Raymond Mathiesen (raymondmathiesen) | 16 comments Delighting In Your Company by Blair McDowell – Book Review
5 out of 5 stars

Past suffering and future bliss?

Amalie Ansett is a busy working professional who part owns an advertising agency in Los Angeles. California. She has just suffered a painful break-up of her marriage and while cleaning her family home, which is now on the market, she discovers an unopened letter to her mother from a previously unknown cousin, Josephina Ansett. Josephina lives on St. Clements, a small island in the Caribbean. The letter invites Amalie and her mother, who is now deceased, to a visit on the island. Sorely in need of a break Amalie decides to go. Imagine her surprise when, while touring on St. Clements she learns of another Amalie Ansett, who lived in the early 1800s, and who looks remarkably like her twenty-first century descendent. Life takes on an even stranger turn when Amalie is visited by the ghost of Jonathan Evans, the 1810 lover of the Amalie of the past. Jonathan died in strange, unexplained circumstances and asks for Amalie’s help to solve the mystery.

Blair McDowell’s Delighting In your Company is an exciting, action packed novel of the paranormal romance/erotica genre. Much more than this, though, the book gives a glimpse of life in the early 1800s, especially for women and slaves. Most of all this is a novel about Amalie’s need to come to terms with her very present and very ‘real’ life problems.

Alisa Just finished Shadow Game (GhostWalkers, #1) by Christine Feehan which took me forever cuz it was on audio & I hated the narrator BUT I really liked the story & am going to finish the series (in print). Also just finished Blood Magic (World of the Lupi, #6) by Eileen Wilks These also always seem to take me a long time to read because the world building & storylines are so complex. Still love the series. Still completely & totally smitten w/Rule.

My whole reading & listening world comes to a stand still at midnight when Shooting Scars (The Artists Trilogy, #2) by Karina Halle downloads to my Kindle. My most anticipated book of the year. I'm 12 year old at a Justin Bieber concert excited about this book. I will do nothing...no cleaning, no parenting, nothing until it is done. (ok well maybe some parenting lol)

After that probably back to the Lupi world or maybe the Ghostwalkers & continuing on audio w/ Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1) by Christina Lauren

Isn't it funny how some books are a slower read, while others you can fly through the same number of pages.

message 1045: by Alisa (last edited Aug 24, 2013 09:54PM) (new)

Alisa I'm currently listening to Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy, #1) by Mira Grant and I'm really enjoying it. It is one of our AOM's series (under her pen name Mira Grant). It's very original & creative. It's 30 years after a zombie outbreak. The world has gone on & people are back to a new normal. The story follows a 3 person blogging team who are asked to follow a politician on his run for a presidential nomination. There are the same issues we see now but they're issues for different reasons. Why have the death penalty when they are just going to rise again? Should they be killed 2x or their zombie self be used in government research?. Animal rights are now about people even being able to have a dog or a horse because any animal over 40lbs can become a zombie. Should all animals just be killed period? There's an ACLU type group who fights for zombies' rights. The Republican party states zombie's are a curse from God due to sin (which I found really amusing).

The book is not preachy or political or anything. These things are just all part of the world building. There's also some interesting discussion about blogging as journalism. I have no idea where the author is going with this story, I'm only about 30% in but so far, really, really cool book.
