"There are a few proclaimed vampire slayers & they range all kinds. Anita out in St. Louis, but she as a lot of stuff going on, not just vampire executions. Cat & Bones run their crew killing vampires and they do a fine job of it. I hear whispers about the Blue Woman now and again, but it's hard to pull fact from the fiction on that one. There some folks in Calif, in LA & a small town east of it, who do mostly vampire slaying, but I haven't met them yet. The black guy & old man combo who roam around doing nothing but vampires. From what I hear they have a personal stake in it, so to speak. Sam and Dean will tussle with a vampire, but usually they are chasing down demons."
So my question is? Who is the Blue Woman and who are the black guy & old man? I know who all the others are but not those two.

I wasn't sure either when I read it. But I did love how he had a shout out to all those fictional characters.

I'm not sure if it's correct but the first character to come to mind for the black man would be Blade. Didn't he have an old man helping him in the movies? I searched the internet and the Blue woman is Sonja Blue from Sunglasses After Dark by Nancy Collins.

now im thinking of starting

I've never seen Blade so I'm not sure but someone else also came up w/the same Blue Woman reference. I swear things like that will totally distract me in books. Thx for helping me get back to reading & not googling like an idiot. LOL

Regarding Chicagoland Vampires I am in total agreement
While I think it is an interesting series I do not think it is interesting enough for me to pay the kind of money they ask for.
How is Sandman Slim? That is another one that has been on my shelf for ages.

I actually just picked up Sandman Slim on one of those daily deal things (I swear 99 cents & 1.99 books are going see me to the poorhouse). I'm only about 25% in but I like it so far. The story is a unique plot line and the author's writing style is a little different.

The blue lady is Sonja Blue and the other reference is Blade and Whistler from Marvel comics. James Tuck is a huge comic nerd,we discuss comics a lot.

Question does anyone know how many books will be in the series?

I KNEW you would know the answer to that! Thank you.

Okay, I'm jealous. I'm lucky to read one book at a time, and you're reading THREE? Arghhh!

I really liked Thirteen Reasons Why. It isn't an easy book to read and it will stick with you. If you like audios try to go that route, it was fantastic that way and fit how the book was written.

mmmmm that's why I put think of reading it, lol. I really want to read it just not sure if I should read it right now.
i'v only listened to an audio once - for Magic Bites - I was a fan, maybe because I already had set ideas for the characters in my head and the audio was a bit different...?? who knows. but if I can get my hands on a audio for this book i'll deff give it a go!!

I don't typically read YA but 13 reasons sounds really good. Is is super teen-ish or does it reach out to a broader audience?

It isn't that teen-ish. Yes, there is a theme of how people treat others, but it is just as relevant at any age.

Thx-- I have some audio credits I need to use. I think I'll pick this up on audio.

Let me know what you think of it.

and

I ended up rating both books 3 stars.
if you read one I would recommend giving the other one a go.
someone told me that thirteen reasons why is best experienced through Audio, and though I haven't had that chance (yet) i would have to agree with them, just the way its written out I can just see how much more impact it would have on the... listener.

ahhh its hard to explain, though I wouldn't call it childish. the writing is pretty incredible, and I don't mean in the way that it had no grammar's - I wouldn't know im a terrible speller and all that, lol. but just the way Hannah - the girl - explained things was... intense
though I would highly recommend you listen to it on Audio (which darcy recommended to me) - im personally not a big audio person but this book is written perfectly for audio. I believe it will have a lot more impact if you actually get to listen to the girl tell her story.

Hot mess or not, you had three books going at the same time:) Hooray!

now im reading

I liked the paranormal series also. I've read both of them that are out. Will continue to read it. It's a fun read.

its a shame cause I absolutely adored her series until just now. sigh. maybe in a few years time I can give it another go.
