What are you reading, Part II? (2013--New Year, New Books!)

I'm finally getting around to reading the Parasol Protectorate.I just finished reading Soulless: The Manga, Vol. 1 and am starting the actual novel today.
Lady Danielle aka The Book Huntress wrote: "@Lauren: That's why I got into audiobooks. I had an hour plus commute to work every day."Is that one way? That stinks.
I don't know if I'd try audio. I enjoy the reading.
Yeah, I used to have an 1 hr, ten minute ride to work, and 1 hr plus ride home. So almost 3 hours in the car.
Some books are really good on audiobook, especially with an excellent narrator who can make all the voices sound different.

Mine is a two hours there and a two hours back commute and listening to audiobooks just makes it fly by.
I never thought I would enjoy listening to book because I have a strong visual memory and really need to see the words in front of me. That said, I cannot read first person POV but listening to it is a solution and now I get to "read" all those great UF books I was missing out on.
I just read Sins and Needles by Karina Halle. I really did love it, but bummed that the sequel won't be out until later this year. Now what?

You guys have a really bad commute. My longest was 40 minutes but I used to visit my parents every weekend, which was 2 hrs one way.
Now mine is 30 minutes and no weekend drives.
Like you Lauren, my visual memory is stronger.
I don't have the commute anymore. It wasn't easy, but I got used to it. It was just normal for me.
I'm not too fond of 1st person POV when it comes to romance, but it works very well for UF and mystery/suspense.

I just finished
I was annoyed at first as this book was basically just 50 Shades re-written w/a few changes. It's the most blatant 50 Shades copy I've seen. There are also a lot of typos & editing issues which don't usually bother me, but there were parts that were so messed up you had to just skip the sentence because it literally made no sense. The thing that DID work for me was Knight. She combined Christian Grey &
to create him & that turned out pretty yummy. I'm gonna try the next one in the series
before I decide whether or not to ditch this series.
I just finished two steampunkish books in a row: The Iron Wyrm Affair and By the Blood of Heroes. I'll probably start First Grave on the Right on audio tonight as well as some other books.
I am halfway through the BDB series at the moment, and read a little mix of a few other series in between. I am totally digging the Sentinel Wars. A very refreshing PNR! Anyone else here read/currently reading it?
Oh, definitely, Lauren. She has me cracking up.
I am reading the Sentinels, Sky. My sister raved about it, which always gets me curious. It's a great series. I need to get caught up though.

I just finished Grave Mercy, which is a historical fantasy about a female assassin in service to the Saint/god Death. There is a nice romance embedded in the story. Sort of reminds me of Anne Stuart's historicals.
I'm reading Ironskin, which is like a Jane Eyre retelling with a beauty and the beast feel, and some fae thrown in. It's good.

Now reading
and listening to
I read Beautiful Bastard recently and really liked it. I did get real annoyed toward the end with hearing over and over again how talented and impressive the h was at her job. With that said, the book was hot. Any recommendations for a modern read, not PRN, and other than Kristen Ashley stuff would be appreciated. I love her stuff, especially the Dream Man series, but have read and reread her quite a bit lately.
Amanda, how about
, these are some of the better romances I have read lately. The Embattled Road isn't a romance, but a prequel for the first book, a must read to understand the guys.
I had a crazy weekend! Good news is I did finish First Grave on the Right on audio, and I really enjoyed it. I have the serious hots for Reyes, but I also like Garrett. Charley is a fun heroine and the idea was very cool. I will be continuing the series.
I also started Scoundrel and Bennett is definitely a DHASG caliber hero.

I just finished reading
which was good. Now I'm just staring at my Kindle as if I can magically move the clock ahead to midnight so
will appear. Sighhhhh......think I'm going to watch Sons of Anarchy to get my mind off of it. Jax always makes me feel better. :)
I think a lot of folks are feeling the same way, Alisa! I have to wait until after April 1st to get my copy.

Yup! In a way I don't mind because I don't have time to go into hermit mode to read the book this week.
I finished
and I loved it. For me it totally lived up to the hype. Blay & Qhuinn's story was heart wretching & then beautiful. There was a lot going on in this book. Lot's of action, some shocking events, lot's of appearances from older characters. She started side stories on three other characters and you can tell who will be in the next books. IMO it was far better than the last few have been and Blay & Qhuinn's story was right up there w/ Z & Bellas.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the book and didn't give away any spoilers, Alisa. It's going to be hard to avoid them from now on until some of us get a chance to read it.
Finished
- which was a fun read but not exactly the brilliant masterpiece I was expecting given the hype. Cat and Bones's banter is great but their romance didn't really grab me. Maybe it will in the next book. Now listening to
- pretty good so far.
I've avoided anything BDB related for a few months. Most books I'll read spoilers on but too much waiting went into this book. I hope you like it.
I like to be 100% spoiler free for the BDBs and a few others, especially my favorites, Alisa. I think I will enjoy LaL. Thanks!
Lauren, I am going to try to get the next Charley Davidson book on audio in the near future from the library.

Lauren wrote: "Finished

@Danielle - I'm really enjoying it so far. Some people have said that Charley's humor started to grate on them in this one but I like it a lot. @Eleighna - I've heard that from many book buddies. I liked Cat and Bones in this one but something was missing. Hopefully it will be there in the next book.
Lauren, the humor is pretty corny and pun-heavy at times, but I can understand why Charley uses humor that way. Her life could be pretty dark otherwise.
I just finished two ARCs, Whisper's Edge: A Cricket Creek Novel, which is small town romance, and Something Wicked, which is romantic suspense. Both are good reads.
Isn't Lisa Jackson heavy on the suspense and very light on romance? I seem to remember reading something of hers and thinking that.

I think I have or had something of her in my TBR mountain and felt intimidated by the size. lol I wonder if I still have it.

I do have to warn it's part of a series. I haven't read the other books and I was okay, although there is definitely a backstory going on.
I have three books on my kindle that I'm 50-75% done w/but all are dragging for me. I hate to dnf so I'm trying to make myself just get done w/these.
Currently reading (ok, re-reading!) an ARC of
The Agreement by S.E. Lund. This is her first contemporary romance and I believe it will be a stand alone book. TA has a delicious hero. Maybe not exactly "dangerous" but he's definitely confident, and a little arrogant at times but it's just his nature. Official release date is April 9 but I think the book is already available on Amazon.Lund's previous 3 books are PNR
Dominion Series - and quite a roller coaster ride. This series has two dark and dangerous heroes -- twins! 800 yo twin vampires to be exact. Can't wait for the 4th and final book later this year.
