Um, hi Aubrey! So all I need to do is make a Shelf, "Outread Aubrey", then put my finished books in there. What if I have a book that I began last year and I just finished it this year? I guess it doesn't count. :(

Rereads definitely count! Normally I would count rereading multiple times, but you can't add a book to a shelf multiple times (AFAIK), so it would be too difficult to count. (If someone knows of a way to add the same book to a shelf multiple times, by all means!)

Lieutenant, here's what Aubrey answered about unpublished works earlier. :)unfortunately you can only count books that you can add to Goodreads, because that's the only way I can keep track of entries. So if the book is scheduled to be published soon(ish) and you want to make a Goodreads listing for it, you can do it that way.

The trouble with Goodreads (as opposed to, say, LibraryThing, or just a forum thread ...) is that there are books it doesn't have, and you have to be a "librarian" (whatever that involves ...) to add books. I've had two (or maybe three ... my memory's going fuzzy) books so far this month that aren't on Goodreads, one that's fairly recent and from Goodreads' perspective fairly obscure, and one (or two) that predates ISBNs.

Agreed. I'm sure I'll need to add some titles as the year goes on to keep my count accurate. If you need any help, just holler!
OK, it looks like being a "librarian" may just mean being on the site for more than a day or two. :) The "add a book manually" link gave a message like "only librarians may add books" the last time I tried it, but now it gives me a form, so should be able to make it work. (/wipes brow "Whew!" Crisis averted. :))

UPDATE: In the spirit of generosity, peace, and general goodwill (read: the desire to make this challenge fun for all, and also the desire to avoid annoying certain people ;) )--I have decided that I will not be counting manga towards my personal totals for this challenge. Y'all can still count it, but I won't be adding it to my Outread Aubrey! shelf. This should level the playing field a bit, lol. ;)

Well, there's 27 volumes of FMA alone... I've already read 17 volumes total this year, so yeah. ;)
Yeahhhhhhhh but most other mangas don't make it that far. Besides, which other ones will you actually read all of? XD (I suspect +Anima and maybe Deathnote...)
I'll probably keep on with +Anima, although I like FMA better. We'll see. At any rate people are already disgruntled about the amount of manga I'm reading, so it's only fair. ;)
I mean, most of what I read is comics/manga these days too. That's what I'm into.
Well, they don't have to outread you, so it's fine. ;) I'm the only one who remotely cares about outreading the Melsie. XD
It seems fair to me. Comic books shouldn't count in a general reading challenge. There could be a separate manga challenge. ;)
