YAY someone agrees with me! :)
Was Brian annoying to you?
Though practically every aspect of this book was terrible... sorry Gary Paulsen :(

I agree. I really didn`t like this book.

Alex I really hated it it has no point to the story and in the first 10 chapters it talks about him starting a fire it is so pointless i wouldn't want my kid to read it it sucks it is so boring and i don't think it deserves a reward i really dont it SUCKS!!!!! it is a horrible book!

message 105: by Cruse (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cruse Don't you think that the point was that he didn't give up and die? He kept on until he figured out a way to make a fire which was essential for his survival. I admit I didn't like the book at first, but my students loved it, especially the boys who were not really into reading. After reading it again, I saw merits I didn't recognize the first time. I'm all for whatever will turn a student on to books and make them love reading.

message 106: by Teri (new) - rated it 4 stars

Teri Yes. But one needs to understand the writing style. It uses repetition to draw us in, to reach our souls, to set the mood. Excellent book to inspire us to not take life for granted, to notice the world around us, to take responsibility for ourselves, to step up and "be a man" and to be grateful for all that we have. Short read. The author is no Shakespeare, but the book is wonderful! Especially for anyone age 12+.

Mellissa First, tell me how to read a book, next this book was better then the movie

message 108: by Emily (new)

Emily I thought it was okay. It could get kind of boring in some parts, to be honest with you. I also found it to be kind of predictable, like I knew what he was going to do, and that he was going to be rescued.

message 109: by Kayden (new)

Kayden i loved it it was a great book.

message 110: by Sam (new) - rated it 2 stars

Sam The stuff mentioned in the book seems pretty realistic but was to slow for my taste. But overall, it wasn't bad.

message 111: by Niche (new) - rated it 5 stars

Niche I read it in sixth grade, and really really enjoyed it. It was really inspirational, and the fact that it is based on a true story just makes it all the more amazing. Definitely top 20 books ever.

message 112: by Evie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Evie yeah i enjoyed it altho i prob would never pick up this book. its actually really good but since we had to read it at school, it sort of ruined it. we had to do SO MANY STUPID things and it made it boring.

message 113: by Olivia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Olivia Marshall I had to read it for school a few years ago. I hated it then, but when I reread it I thought it was pretty ok.

Carly Really Very Normal I started reading it once, in about third or fourth grade. But I got to the part where he had to dive down to the pilot and it really scared me. It took a couple of years before I tried again, and I did enjoy it, although I preferred "My Side of the Mountain."

message 115: by Jonah (new) - rated it 1 star

Jonah this book is the worst thing i have ever read in my life!!! I'm suprised this is a 3 time Newberry Honor Book. Gary Paulsen is the worst author i have ever read a book from

Gerri Poling Poling The adventure and emotion conveyed in this book are so raw, so richly detailed, so memorable that I cannot think of a reason why you wouldn't read it. It is a story that sticks with you long after you finish it.

message 117: by Sangit (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sangit cruze It was a great novel. it has an amazing atmosphere, a great character that gets a good amount of character development. Not the greatest novel i have read but its still a really good novel.

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen? AWESOME book.
It made me appreciate self-reliance and nature. It also opened me up to everything I had now, and how grateful I am not to be in Brian's situation and have the things I do. Also, I feel if I was ever put in that situation or something similar to it, I'd have a few good idea's about how to go about it. The book seemed very realistic and flowed so easily. I've read it three times, XD

message 119: by Ada (new) - rated it 2 stars

Ada Chen Read it in Grade 5, it was real boring. The book does create a clear image of the forest and food, but it is just not attracting readers. It just isn't interesting.

Stacy Dean I loved this book! I appreciate how quickly we dive into the plot and I'm always a sucker for survival tips. You end up just rooting for the kid, you know?! So I usually fly through this book and devour it.

Max Sarah wrote: "NO! I hated it so much. It was so boring! I had to read it for school. I didn't realy pay any attention to it. I got an A anyway. HAHAHA!!!"

you're a psycho path

Spencer Weatbrook this is a very underrated book and it is one of the most realistic sounding books that I have ever heard without being boring. if you read intently you will have a deep connection with the story.

Spencer Weatbrook Edgar wrote: "i liked the book. although the ending was was a facepalm for me, brian learned how to survive on his own with the resources he had in the wild. it was a good book when i had first read it."
you have to read the rest of the books to really get why it was like that

message 124: by Johanna (new) - added it

Johanna Flores I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!

message 125: by Shyann (new) - rated it 4 stars

Shyann I had to read it for school. It was super boring to me. HAHAHAHA!!

Katelyn Sabatos Yes! I read this with my class in the 6th grade. I remembered little details about it for years before I got to read it again. I think it's a great and easy read.

Natalee Delp I loved it!!!! It was read to me in 4th grade and everytime I'm on a plane I think about this book...

message 128: by Mindy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mindy Truong I read it as a kid and loved it and recently re-read it again as an adult. Still a great book!

Charlotte I thought in the beginning it was a little weird, but after like...5-ish chapters it got better and ended up enjoying it. I read it in class and liked it, we were learning about survival and how to do it. Would recommend to lovers of survival. :)

Mia Paige (Semi-Hiatus) I mean I enjoyed it when I read it for school...... a little bit. For some reason it made me really hungry after reading it and always wanting a cheeseburger 😅
