I've combined the two versions by Twain and another three by Disraeli into the main quote:

but it is almost certainly NOT by Disraeli either. It not only doesn't appear in any of his works there are no sources from his lifetime that anyone ever heard him say it! So I've added a tag "attributed no proof".

I made a mistake on a quote on my author page. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17... "Never underestimate the power of cool." I was just trying to fill out all the categories. I thought this was asking for a quote from the author so I made one up. This is not from my book as it states. Can someone please delete it? I would be most grateful.

Sorry, didn't see your comment before I posted the above. I've been told in the past directly by Rivka that lyrics should be deleted from the quotes section, even if the artist/"author" has books of sheet music attributed. I'll try and find the thread where it was discussed.

Hm, well, OK.

Books of sheet music, which I would describe as words AND music, are OK as books on Goodreads. Some of these quotes are from volumes like this one:

which are words and music. If some of these don't qualify for keeping then we are going to be deleting the popular John Lennon and Bob Dylan song quotes as well.

I agree that it's probably a bit of a grey area, but that was the last judgement I've heard so I've been going by that guideline. There are probably tons of "quotes" on goodreads that don't belong but I usually just delete them as I come across them. I probably won't go on another big hunting spree like that one for a while. Thanks for tackling them!

I don't know Simone de Beauvoir's writings at all, but I doubt that the noted French intellectual feminist would have written this quote. However, I may be mistaken, so could somebody more knowledgeable check it and, if it's simply the crude graffiti that it appears, perhaps it could be deleted.

On the other hand, if it is a genuine quote, then Ms de Beauvoir was quite the potty-mouth!

The quote goes back at least five years (that I can see) but there are only approx four hundred links which include that author name with or without the book. Nearly all of them are recent. No-one else seems a likely contender for the source. On the face of it I would agree that it doesn't look like her original work so should be reattributed or deleted. Do you fancy asking her?

Actually, no. She's a newbie writer and TBT, I don't care for her at all. Her book contains numerous copyright violations but that's not a GR matter. I just happened to notice this quote today and realised that the quote wasn't her original words either (knew this quote from years ago). But the way it appears in the book, it's as if it's her original work.
