how can I get rid of an old version of a cover?

Goodreads does not delete old covers, if the book was ever published with that cover than it is a valid edition.

it is a copyright issue with the graphic designer. We have decided not to go with their cover and he has asked for it to be removed.

You will need to contact GR support with the details. They will then make the decision.

Librarians will not remove it

If it is a copyright issue it will usually go through, but staff will need to take care of it. Thanks for posting!
