HAHAHA you're right in some ways, the books that can be classified as "Action-Adventure" are first & foremost VISUAL, as in a good action book is less about reading the dialogs or monologs, and more about visualizing the action/adventure sequences (most of the time in exotic, extreme locations), almost the same as watching a film, but through the mind's eye.
I read books mostly for the fun of it, to be entertained, and a great action-adventure novel can make me travel the whole world (and beyond), make me go thru countless deadly situations along with my hero, and the adrenaline rush I can feel makes me truly alive....all from the corner of my room :D
Most of the time, there are offcourse some level of mystery or thriller get mixed in these type of books, but the primary focus (like 80-90% of it) is ALWAYS on the adventure and action-suspense aspect of it (I categorize "Crime" with cops & robbers/gangsters, so doesn't validate here, and a "Thriller" mainly means the likes of Dean Koontz, Thomas Harris, Stephen King, or Jeffery Deaver...the element that present here only minorly).
Some of the GREAT Action-Adventure authors I love or keen on reading are: James Rollins, Clive Cussler, Matthew Reilly, Jack Du Brul,Steve Berry, Greig Beck, Jeremy Robinson, Boyd Morrison, Andy McDermott, David Lynn Golemon, Paul Sussman, David Wood, Chris Kuzneski etc. Browse some of their works and I guess you'll get some ideas. Hope I was helpful in some degree. :)

My spare time for reading has been limited the past 4 years, but I'm finally getting more "me" time now. I love reading from all genres. I really like to have thriller/ mystery aspects in what I read to keep my mind engaged and the excitement and suspense building.
I just finally found and joined goodreads after hearing about it from friends and family. I feel like I have been so out of the loop due to school lol. I look forward to joining the grop and I'm heading out to get a copy of Fragile to join this month's book club.

Thank you

My name is Lexie Conyngham, I live in north east Scotland and I've loved crime novels since I read my first Agatha Christie short story (The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding) on Boxing Day when I was about ten. I have a vast collection but there are still lots of authors I'd like to explore in this genre.
I also have four historical crime novels out on Kindle and Smashwords, set in Georgian Scotland - fifth to follow shortly!
By the way, do we have to solve the mystery of the photo at the top of the page? If so, I'd plump for Trinity College Library, Dublin!

Christie and Doyle are fantastic! Rizwan, glad to welcome you to the group! : )

I enjoy reading all types of books. Most recently, Chevy Stevens has caught my attention. I just can't put her books down! I am currently reading the Game of Thrones series (I've a little over halfway done with the books he has out so far). I love finding new authors to read and absolutely love finding that book that I stay up all night reading because I HAVE to know what happens next.

I'm Marie and I enjoy mysteries. I also like mysteries which combine humor and those of historical fiction.

Hi my name is Janessa I am a student study theatre and business. I do a ton of reading for school as well as for fun. It is one way I am able to relieve stress. My other way of relieving stress is by watching movies, I especially enjoy the classic, Film Noir any one? I also want to say thank you to Jac for inventing me to this group.

Hope I didn't leave out any new members to the group.
Fortunately for us, we have the best moderator on Goodreads, Jenni. Any thoughts, suggestions, anything, just let her know. She's here to help us, is very active and loves to hear our thoughts.
Hope you enjoy the dialogue with our fellow members on the different threads. We're a killer group!
I'm from Florida...a native of my hometown (a tourism site) in north Florida. Maybe the last native Floridian. (Of course not, but it seems like it sometimes.)
I love the fact that we have members of the group from all over the world. Our commonality is loving the mystery/thriller genre.
Enjoy the discussion. Welcome home, friends!

I would have to say that my favorite playwrights are William Shakespeare and Tennessee Williams.

Hi Jed:
A man after my heart mentioning Harry Bosch and Elvis Cole. I'm a long, very long time Travis McGee follower...but Elvis is right there. And Harry, for sure.
You'll love this group.
