Current Stats:

Team Books Read/Goal* % of Goal % of 2,013
Team A 1663/6409 = 25.9% 82.6%
Team B 1770/6385 = 27.7% 87.9%
Team C 1794/6321 = 28.3% 89.1%
Team D 1567/6375 = 24.5% 77.8%

Goal totals adjusted, subtracting people who never signed up, or never posted a book.

If your Team is on track, it would be at 24.6% of Goal as of today.

Note: Teams A & C’s adjusted totals have changed because people changed their personal goals (some up, some down). Interestingly, while Team B members also adjusted their goals, they all managed to still keep the same Team goal. Team D’s hasn’t changed b/c Captain Rebecca has been so on top of things, she has been notifying me of their updates as they happen.

Next I'll probably read The Last Universe by William Sleator , It's Even Worse Than It Looks How the American Constitutional System Collided With the Politics of Extremism by Thomas E. Mann , or Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr . My goal is to be finished with all three by the end of this weekend.

I'm off to the library to pick up the rest of her books that I haven't read. I've read this one and Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta . If you like contemporary YA, I highly recommend these.

message 1618: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Finished Walking Disaster (Beautiful, #2) by Jamie McGuire . If not for the epilogue, that I thought it was a little far-fetched, I thought I had to take a star of Abby's POV book rating. I love Travis. His POV is amazing. For those who liked Beautiful Disaster, this one is a must read.

message 1619: by Karla (new)

Karla I am 31% finished with My Name Is Memory by Ann Brashares , 46% finished with Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul Stories to Open the Hearts and Rekindle the Spirit of Educators by Jack Canfield , and 15% finished with Encyclopedia of Serial Killers by Brian Lane . I'm hoping to finish the first two this weekend.

message 1627: by Barb (new)

Barb I don't know if anyone else has been paying attention to the team numbers, but as of a couple of hours ago, here are the team standings:

Team C - 1910 books
Team B - 1868 books
Team A - 1764 books
Team D - 1745 books

Team C is VERY close to completing 2013 books! And we are dangerously close to finishing in last place. I just checked to be sure all of the books I've read that meet the requirements are appropriately tagged, so all I can do to help is to read faster :)

message 1628: by Sheila (new)

Then on to The Naming of the Beasts (Felix Castor, #5) by Mike Carey and Whispers at Moonrise by C.C. Hunter !

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Yes, Barb, read faster! :p

Steven, read shorter books, hahaha! I have a few really long ones on my TBR but I think I'll wait on those until I get a few shorter ones out of my system.

message 1632: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Well, I would, but I already have so many actual copies of books (Kindle and/or phyiscal) to read... and most of them are at least 400-500 pages.

I just don't find many shorter books!!!!

I'm trying to read pretty fast though!

message 1633: by Steven (last edited Apr 08, 2013 10:54AM) (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'm almost done (75%) with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6) by J.K. Rowling , and a quarter of the way through Beautiful Redemption (Caster Chronicles, #4) by Kami Garcia which ends the series. After those, I'll be finishing up the Harry Potter series with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter, #7) by J.K. Rowling and finishing up the Kane trilogy with The Serpent's Shadow (Kane Chronicles, #3) by Rick Riordan by Rick Riordan.

Then, we'll see. Dunno yet. Probably another scary book!

message 1640: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I just finished Table for Seven: A Novel and I'm currently pondering which of my hoarde I want to read next.

message 1641: by Barb (new)

Barb Steven wrote: "I signed up! Do we keep the same teams?"

I think the mods said they're going to try to keep teams somewhat intact, but at the same time, there will be more teams with fewer members on each team. So who knows? LOL

And Steven, I'm still working my way through The King's Deception. It's good, as expected, but I'm so used to listening to these books rather than reading them, I keep hearing Scott Brick's voice narrating the story LOL

Yes! It's hard to switch voices in your head back to your own once you've listened to an audio version.

I listened and read off and on when I read Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth, #1) by Terry Goodkind earlier this year. I listened while at work to the professional narration, then read once at home... and I kept hearing that narrator's voice! :)

Joyce (eternity21) | 478 comments Steven wrote: "All the books I have to read are too long! I need more that are right around the required 170 pages to tear through haha!"

I know me too. It seems lately that I've been reading chunky books. The one currently is over 1000 but it is good and I am going through it pretty fast.

message 1644: by Joyce (new)

Joyce (eternity21) | 478 comments I finished Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor and currently reading Under the Dome by Stephen King and Haunted (Harrison Investigation, #1) by Heather Graham . I need to read shorter books. But all my shorter books are too short.

message 1645: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 88 comments I just finished The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin and Changeling (Order of Darkness, #1) by Philippa Gregory today

message 1646: by Barb (new)

Barb It's been awhile since I've posted an update, but I've recently read
Three Sisters (Blackberry Island, #2) by Susan Mallery    Killer Honeymoon by G.A. McKevett    The International Bank of Bob Connecting Our Worlds One $25 Kiva Loan at a Time by Bob Harris    Heat Wave (Nikki Heat, #1) by Richard Castle    Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah and The Icecutter's Daughter (Land of Shining Water, #1) by Tracie Peterson .

This afternoon, I started my first-ever Hercule Poirot book, The Under Dog and Other Stories (Hercule Poirot #33.1) by Agatha Christie . So far, so good :)

message 1647: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Barb! I love love love Hercule Poirot. I've read them all (and the other Christies too)! I don't remember half of them because it's been a while. I plan on re-reading a bunch of them soon!

I've also read Heat Wave from the Castle series... need to read the rest. It was a decent story.

My friend is obsessed with Kristin Hannah, Firefly Lane being the one I bought her that got her obsessed and actually got her to read. She is IN LOVE with fireflies and anything connected to them, so I got her the book and, while she reads very little, she will read anything Hannah writes. The sequel comes out this month to that too!

Once you've read Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (Hercule Poirot #4) by Agatha Christie and a good chunk of her other books, you should check out Pierre Bayard's Who Killed Roger Ackroyd? The Mystery Behind the Agatha Christie Mystery by Pierre Bayard . He was SO MAD that she pulled one over on him that he wrote an entire book on why she was wrong. He does use a bunch of her other stories in his fight to prove his point. It's an interesting read, but don't spoil a bunch of the books by reading this too early in your Christie reading! :)

message 1648: by Barb (new)

Barb I'll keep that in mind, Steven, thanks :) I'm not sure how it happened, but I've only read a handful of Agatha Christie books in my reading 'career.' I need to read several for a challenge I'm doing, and I've enjoyed the books I've read. I will definitely be reading more, even after that particular challenge ends!

I have the Firefly Lane follow-up on my library holds list already, but I need to find out if the next Nikki Heat book is in the library system. Thanks for the reminder :)

message 1649: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments If you have Amazon prime, I believe the Nikki Heat books are available for the free monthly checkouts!

message 1650: by Barb (new)

Barb I do have Prime, but I just checked and the books aren't free anymore -- at least not the next in the series :) My library system has it, though, so I've added it to my list for later, when I get caught up on some of the other books I have checked out and on hold right now.
