Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Steven - when you joined the challenge you should have designated a special shelf through the challenge widget. Just make sure to put all of the books that meet the criteria for the challenge on that shelf and they'll be added!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Welcome, Steven!

I'm another Clue fan! It's my go-to movie whenever it rains. Mind you, here in Texas that's not as often as it was when I lived in Michigan.

message 1508: by Barb (new)

Barb Welcome to the team, Steven! Don't forget, you can count any book >170 pages that you've started since January 1 -- not just the ones you've read since you joined the team :) Glad to see someone else who enjoys Steve Berry; I'm listening to his The Jefferson Key right now so I'm caught up with Cotton et al before The King's Deception comes out this summer!

message 1509: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished Do You Want To Know A Secret? (KEY News #1) by Mary Jane Clark , but haven't had much time to read today. Worked all day, then hubby and I went to our local Subaru dealer and bought a new Outback, to be delivered in a week or two. I'm so excited!

Barb Steven wrote: " I got King's Deception as an ARC from Netgalley.com. Check it out and read it early!!!! :)))"

Oh I'm envious! I'll have to stop by Netgalley and see if I can get a copy to read! It's been ages since I've been approved for one of their books :\

"And congrats on your new car! I need to get one of those soon...not sure how long my old Taurus is going to hold on... Haha!"

We're downsizing from a monstrous conversion van that was great for all those trips to/from college. But the kids have both graduated, and we just don't need a beast that big anymore. After 10 years of driving a boat, it's going to take awhile to get used to something smaller again LOL

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Barb, put on your profile on there that you love Steve Berry and that'll help. I had barely done any reviews on here or anywhere, and I still got approved... And I'd not done any feedback on there yet at the time either! Just make sure to extol the virtues of Berry! :)

message 1517: by Barb (new)

Barb I just requested it, Steven, so we'll see. Good thing I popped by their site! I never got any notification that I'd been approved for another title, so I would have missed that one.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Hello A-Team!

The Read-a-thon was a success!! What? You don't believe me? Here are the current numbers:

TEAM A:1438
TEAM B:1445
TEAM C:1505
TEAM D:1334

We are so close of team B now that we can almost read the current pages of the books they are reading *grins*

Good job everybody! I think this one was even better than the first one!

Since the numbers are now so close, and GR has a few issues, Mary and I will be even more demanding attentive to books that can and cannot be on the shelves. And we will start the book validation party soon so expect (or not, it would be a good sign) some PM's in the next few days.

And now I'm going to try to finish one of the many books I am reading at the same time *sigh*

Happy readings!

message 1536: by Mary (new)

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Oh wow! We're so close to Team B!

I forgot to do one last RaT update, but no worries. I definitely surpassed my page goal, as in the past few days, I've finished these four books:
Arclight by Josin L. McQuein Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley Warm Bodies (Warm Bodies #1) by Isaac Marion

The Rose Garden was definitely my favorite of the bunch. History, romance, mystery, and time travel all rolled into one. I've been slowly working my way through Susanna Kearsley's novels and I started Mariana today. It's so good. :-)

what did you think about Geist?

message 1547: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Sheila wrote: "what did you think about Geist?"

It was ok. The premise was really interesting and unique, and I honestly really liked the three main characters.

It could really have benefited from some editing to correct issues of pace and contradictory plot details. It also has a reaaaalllyyy bad case of Mary Sue-itis. There were issues that the protagonists faced that should have caused way more angst and trouble than they did, because every time something bad happened either Sorcha or Merrick would miraculously develop a new and never before discussed "Deacon power" that would be the perfect solution to the issue.

I'll probably still read the next book in the series just because it's such an interesting premise, but this one was just meh.

Fun fact, though: It works for the Harry Potter Sorting Hat challenge/lion prompt if you're participating in it. Raed shapeshifts into the Rossin - basically a giant lion.

I just finished The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton . Which was fantastic. Almost finished with Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and I am starting The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman tonight. Get a little head start.

At least I'm ahead in my reading goal for the year.
