Tower Team A: The "A" Team
I finished Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor this afternoon and picked up Shadow Zone just a bit ago. I've got a mountain of library books sitting here that I need to read, and several of them are due back on Friday! Guess I'd better pick up the pace a bit :)
I totally agree with Barb as well. E-readers a very handy when it comes to travelling or reading on the tube. I hardly ever get a seat and when I didn't yet have an e-reader I wasn't able to read a lot. Now I almost always read, even when I'm just standing. My Kindle is small (and light) enough for me to hold it with one hand and hold on to a rail or something with the other one. So I now get to read a lot more than I did before. It also saves a lot of space (and weight) in my bag when travelling. Even when reading at home my tiny hands don't hurt as much anymore from holding all those big books.But the feeling is just not the same as when reading a real book. You can't smell it or just browse through it. And what I really miss is being able to put my books on a shelf and be amazed at what I already read (and especially how large my tbr pile still is :) when I walk past.
I buy both physical and ebooks. My physical books are usually secondhand and I also borrow lots of book from the library. When buying ebooks I always look for bargains (I only make exceptions when I really really want to read a book and don't want to wait for a cheaper edition). I'm not willing to spend almost the same amount of money for and ebook as I would for the physical version. Publishing an ebook hardly involves any cost (especially when you're publishing a physical edition anyway) and why should I pay that much for a book of which I only purchase the right to read it but not the right to sell it?
I honestly hope that bookstores will never die out. What I think however is that the smaller ones will by and by disappear (as it is already happening). I also prefer larger ones where I can browse without being interrupted by a bookseller who thinks he/she might help me. I really can't remember a single occasion when a bookseller gave me an advice for a book. It has rather happened the other way round: people asking booksellers for advice and me answering them because the bookseller had to look the information up first. And I also like to have a huge choice of books. I've read so much and own so many books that it's often difficult for me to find anything worth reading in small stores.

this afternoon. I can't believe how much I'm reading this year already, compared to the past 5 years. Being in this group/team has helped with that but I've also joined a few challenges that are helping me keep tabs on what I want to read, which helps me actually get the reading done.
10/52! I'm 1/5 of the way through my goal and it's just one month into the year. I am on a roll. This is a record for me! I haven't read this much in this length of time in a looooong time. Not sure what I'm going to read next. I have a few books on "the stack."

☀Mary and I are working on the next RaT week, like date and possible change of rules, we'll post as soon as everything is set, for now I can only say that is going to be next month, and it will have a few changes. Are you curious yet? *smug grin* Stay tuned for more information.
☀Meanwhile, how do you feel with weekly themed readings? We'll set a theme for the week, for example "guilty pleasures week", and we'll read a book (or more, we're not picky) that represents a guilty pleasure. It could be cover or title or theme from the book. Or something related.
Using the example,
we can have
(Hi, my name is Sonia and I'm a chocolate addicted ☺) or
Or choose a genre that is a guilty pleasure, for me it would be big, bad, alpha males on UF/PNR, like
Or, since reading could be a guilty pleasure, it could be ANY type of book.
Did I make sense? And more important, do you like the idea? Are you up to it?
☀Since Real Life sometimes decides it's time to go back, we'll probably won't be able to validate the books till next weekend, so, we're going to ask you to keep the rules in mind. Since we have a few new members (HI TO ALL, WELCOME TO THE TEAM), here's the recap of the main rules:

- Books must have at least 170 pages (If a book doesn't have a page count on the info page, just report it on the thread: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...)

Exactly... I'm going to make it official then, and choose the theme, and we can do a test drive to see if it works :o)

Since we are in a team challenge, any book read is a themed book, easy, right? :o)
Since today is Thursday, and we are in a test-drive mode, we'll use the theme to Sunday the 10th. Then we'll start posting a new theme every Monday, unless you don't like the idea.

I like the idea of themed reading. It shouldn't be that hard to match something :) My book for th first theme is
I'm using it for the RLftCI's Double Decker Bus Challnge (my letter C for Calhoun Chronicles) and it was picked for me to read in W & ML Pick My February Read.
Just a note, Sunday is the 10th, not the 11th, I've edited the post... 3 PM and I still don't feel awake enough... :)

I like the idea of themes.For this week, I am reading John Dies at the End. I am actually reading it to fulfill a couple different challenges.
I have been out of town and out of Internet for a couple of weeks so this question may have been asked before.When I come into the team thread and use the link at the beginning to view my progress it shows old data. If I choose to update which asks me to input my special shelf name again, then it shows correct data. Should I not worry about this as long as I see the correct count on the My Books page?
Also I missed the Read-A-Thon so I'll be doing a personal one this week to catch up on my reading. Over a week with my grandsons was a wonderful vacation but not good for my challenge count.

Evana, you don't really need to worry about it; it will eventually catch up when the cache does. However, if you want to see your books - and make the computer update your total now - just click on the link that shows your percent.
If you use the previous or back arrow, be sure to refresh the page before getting upset.

i really agree 100% with Barb...I own a Kobo and have on it a Kindle app and an Overdrive app...i was resistent at first to the ereaders but i love them for reading in bed cause then I dont have to bug hubby with the lights on or pages rustling....
I love both physical and ereaders but physical hold a special place in my heart....
