Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Great job everyone! :D

How does March sound for the next one? Is there anything we could do differently? Thoughts, suggestions?

message 907: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I know the March week perfect for the next read-a-thon... OK, so I'm biased, I have the week off *giggles*

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Congratulations to all who completed the RaT and either met your page goal or surpassed it! And to those who didn't get to complete it (such as myself, haha), there will be more chances and good for you for trying anyway!

The cover looks so cheesy but I keep getting drawn to it when I go to Barnes & Nobles. Let me know if it's any good?

Giving Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead another chance. Hopefully, I will finish it.

You know, I too started that one once, put it down, and then eventually went back to it.

I am glad I did. I ended up really enjoying it.

message 913: by Mary (new)

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments I need to read that one too, Nancy & Stephanie. I keep putting it off because I don't want to be disappointed by it. I was pretty mehh about Sydney and Jill in the last couple VA novels.

I'm hoping I like it as well since I liked her Vampire Academy series.

Also, finished

Awesome! I didn't even get to finish my 24 hours. Work was so exhausting this week that every time I tried to read I fell asleep. Can't wait for the next one!

Just finished Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead . I couldn't put that book down. I LOVED it. I am so glad I gave it another try. Can't wait to read The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead .

Yay!

And on another note I am starting Hollowland (The Hollows, #1) by Amanda Hocking

message 922: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished And On the Eighth Day... by Ellery Queen , my first-ever Ellery Queen book, tonight. It was a strange story, but I had to keep reading to find out what happened and why! From comments I read by other GR members, this book is not typical of Queen, so I'll reserve judgement on the series until I've read another book or two :)

message 923: by Ellinor (new)

Ellinor (1001andmore) I just finished Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell . I'm continuing Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and am starting Das Washington Dekret by Jussi Adler-Olsen .

I'd really like to do another readathon, I loved this one so much. Just maybe not the last two weeks of February and first week of March. I'll be on vacation then and probably won't be able to read as much as I normally would. Also, the Easter weekend wouldn't be so good. I've too much planned for it to be able to read a lot.

Barb Mary wrote: "Thanks for the input, Ellinor! Anybody else have specific dates that don't work?"

I work the third weekend of every month, so I have less reading time available those weekends, but I can work around that if necessary :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments For the next RaT, whatever the majority wants is fine bye me. I thought I'd have all kinds of time to read for this last one but I was wrong so I'm just going to play it by ear next time.

message 931: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 1800 comments I ll try to make it work whenever it is. Beginning of march is better for me.

message 932: by Barb (new)

Barb Forgot to add in my previous comment:

The last week of any given month is always a good time for me to do a RaT. I always find myself with what seems like a million books to read to finish challenges that end on the last day of the month, and I need all the help I can get :)

I just finished reading The Casual Vacancy the other day. I liked it, though I there were a couple of moments where I felt like she was throwing in all the adult topics should could think of just because she finally could (does that make any sense?). Either way I enjoyed it. What did you think?

I read it when it came out and I was half way through it when I couldn't finish it anymore. I thought it was ok. If she writes another book, I wouldn't mind giving it a try as well.

message 944: by Mary (new)

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Doing great, everyone! :D

So, just to create discussion and to see your brilliant answers:

Do you prefer ebooks or physical books? Do you have a strong opinion on either one? Do you use both? If so, which do you buy more of? Do you think bookstores will eventually die out? Discuss.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments I read mainly physical books but I also read ebooks. I buy a lot of physical books about 4 or 5 a week. I don't think bookstores will die out. Cause I think there is a lot of people still out there that don't buy ebooks and still need a place to buy physical books.

message 946: by [deleted user] (new)

I definitely prefer physical books. Not that there's anything wrong with eBooks, they just aren't the same. And I really hope bookstores never die. Because if they do, I'll never leave my house.

message 947: by Elaine (last edited Feb 04, 2013 09:21AM) (new)

Elaine (ofdustandstarlight) If I could, I would definitely read physical books but unfortunately, my budget doesn't allow me to do so. Plus some physical books are humongous so I tend to rely on my kindle (ebooks) quite a bit for most of my books. But if I love a particular book, I'll still go out and get a physical copy. I really hope that bookstores never die, they are so much more than just a place to buy books.

Also, although I haven't been able to join the readathon in the end, I did manage to make up for it but I did complete these 6books in the past week!
Bleeding Hearts (Drake Chronicles, #4) by Alyxandra Harvey Blood Moon (Drake Chronicles, #5) by Alyxandra Harvey Blood Prophecy (Drake Chronicles, #6) by Alyxandra Harvey Boundless (Unearthly, #3) by Cynthia Hand I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Jill Mansell

message 948: by Susan (susayq ~) (new)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments I tend to read from both equally. I went to B&N today and got 3 new ones lol I find it easier to buy on the kindle...no having to go anywhere and I have immediately.

I've heard that her (J.K. Rowing) next book is supposed to be for young children. That will be quite a change!

Barb Mary wrote: "Do you prefer ebooks or physical books? Do you have a strong opinion on either one? Do you use both? If so, which do you buy more of? Do you think bookstores will eventually die out? Discuss."

I own both a Nook and a Kindle (long story), but I still prefer to read physical books. Even if I worked somewhere other than a library, I would still prefer physical books :) There's just something about the smell of ink on paper, the sound of turning a page, the weight of holding a BOOK as opposed to an electronic device ... it's just more appealing to me :)

I rarely buy books in any format. I take advantage of the free e-books, and I use the library for most of my physical books. When I do buy books, they're used physical books or really cheap e-books!

Like everyone else, I hope we won't see the end of bookstores, but I guess only time will tell.
