Elaine (ofdustandstarlight) Wow, B & C sure caught up fast.

I may have more time coming up, to read since this will be my last week of work, so go team!

Also done with my third The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick and deciding what to read next, ho hum...

message 452: by Auggie (new)

Auggie (auggietalk) Finished The Stone Child by Dan Poblocki and Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson today.

Two great books.

No clue what my next book will be. I think I should probably start on a thicker one. I have a few 400+ page books that are waiting patiently to be read.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments @Ashley - You have read 3 books already. Your contribution is amazing from my standards, besides, aren't you having fun reading? That is the most important! And 900 pages? Atta girl!!

@Nancy - is it better yet? :o)

@❥☪LIZZ NEILL☪❥ - Forever and the Night goes to the list of what-not-to-read.

@Elaine - time off to read... I'm kinda jealous right now.. :o)

@Auggie - way to go!

You guys are doing so great! I'm still on my third book and seeing your results makes me want to read so much faster!

Now, let's take a look at the teams stands, I'm so afraid to see them *giggles*

haha thanks! I always have fun reading, especially that book. It was the final book in a really long series and it just came out last week. I have been waiting for it for a long time!

message 456: by Barb (new)

Barb Finished In Plain Sight last night; I liked this second in the series as much as I did the first, so I'll look for the third. Not sure what I'll start next on my Nook/Kindle, but I'll find *something :)

message 457: by Mary (new)

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Doing great, A-Team!

I'm not feeling well today, so I'm not sure how much reading I'll get done, but I finished What Alice Forgot over the weekend and it was so good! Made me weep like a baby.

message 458: by Elaine (last edited Jan 14, 2013 07:44AM) (new)

Elaine (ofdustandstarlight) Sonia: Hehe, I know. I'm grateful for that.
Time to devour more books!

Mary: Aww, you poor thing. Feel better!

Okay, done with my fourth book Speechless by Hannah Harrington
I'm surprising myself with how fast I'm reading right now considering I only did 33 books last year. Hopefully I can keep this up.

Good luck guys!

message 459: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments @Mary: I hope you get well soon.

@Elaine: is the team-challenge effect.. it get all of us trying to read more :o)

Loved it and did a little crying towards the end as well. I honestly didn't expect to like it as much as so it was a pleasant surprise.

message 462: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Mary and Sonia, any idea on when we're going to do the readathon?

message 463: by Mary (new)

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Planning for this weekend sometime. Sonia and I are working out the details. Any suggestions for which day? Saturday or Sunday?

Also, I've never participated in a readathon before, so does anyone have any ideas for the actual event? We can post our page totals and set goals for ourselves, but what else?

I just finished my 9th book...I started it yesterday but omg couldn't put it down, Gone (Gone, #1) by Michael Grant !! Recommends it to you all * especially fellow die-hard sci-fi-dystopia fans!!

Slowly it is, but now that school has started again, my reading will be going down since I now have to focus more on school work.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Just finished my Dolly memoir (took too long for a short book but I hadn't dedicated much time to reading). I started my 4th book today and I'm more than halfway through. I am doing my own readathon of sorts today because I got really sick last night and haven't been off the couch since then, until about 30 minutes ago. I'm just reading, watching Netflix streaming and napping, lol.

message 467: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I'm gonna stop reading Blood Memory by Greg Iles as I am having a hard time getting into it . If I want to read it again, I'll just pick it up again. Now, I'll just look through my books both on my shelves and on my NookColor to see what book I should read next.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I read Blood Memory a long time ago on a plane. I don't remember much about it, but I do think it was hard for me to get lost in it during the flight. Maybe pick it up again later if you feel invested in it because I *think* it gets better. Perhaps if you have nothing but time to read, it may be easier to get into. But of course, that's IF you want to. I refuse to encourage anyone to read something their heart just isn't into.

Mary I have participated in a few readathons....

For a weekend one a couple of options on how to do it...
1. set a 24 hr time period say from 12am Sat to 12pm Sat
2. or individuals pick their own 24 hour time period starting anywhere from say 9pm Friday to ending at 12 pm Sunday

During the time period people record the number of pages read...

Can set a goal of so many pages see if you meet it or a few people could read the same book and see who finishes first...

message 471: by Barb (new)

Barb I've seen some RaTs (readathons) where the 'host' organizes mini-challenges every hour or so, but imo, those seem to take time away from *reading -- which is the main goal, isn't it? Personally, I think I'd rather just see folks set a goal and work toward reaching that goal.

I like the idea of everyone choosing their own 24-hour time span between, say, 7pm Friday and midnight Sunday -- simply because this is my weekend to work, and I'm going to be unable to read most of Saturday :( But I could start reading Saturday night and read till Sunday night, except for the four hours I have to work on Sunday afternoon.

message 472: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jan 14, 2013 07:14PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I'm not sure I'll participate in a Read-a-thon but I have a suggestion that's along the lines of a few mentioned above me (and those are good ideas, too) but, what if the team chooses a 7 day period in which everyone can choose the 24-hour period that works best for them? My work schedule is sporadic so I wouldn't want to commit to a read-a-thon unless I know I'm going to have at least 2 days in a row off. I'd want to dedicate as much of those 24 hours to reading as I could, without worrying about work or laundry or even cooking much.

However, if we all agreed that our read-a-thon would take place between, for example, January 27th, through February 2nd, I'd carve out some time in there (assuming my requirements stated above are met).

7 days gives everyone a longer period with which to work, because not everyone has a traditional Monday-Friday job, many of us may work all weekend and only have Monday-Wednesday off, etc.

Whatever we decide on, I think everyone should choose their reading time before the RaT starts and post it in this thread.

I read Room a few months ago. I enjoyed it (gave it four stars). It seems like a lot of people who don't like it really don't like the fact that it is narrated by a little kid who has never seen the outside world (I think he is 5?). I admit that there were certain parts that were annoying but I still liked it.

Nancy, I'm not a captain of the team but I was here and saw your question so I did some of my own investigating. When I look at your "2013" shelf (because I figured that's the one you have tied to this group), I see this book listed but there isn't a "read" date so maybe you need to update that? I'm not sure, just a guess that it may be related.

message 500: by Mary (new)

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Nancy wrote: "I got a question: Did my book Walking on Broken Glass by Christa Allan not count as a book for the challenge?"

Teresa hit the nail on the head. Your books must have a date read for the book to be counted at all. You can edit the start and finish dates in the review screen for the book and it'll automatically be added.
