Becca (ladybeccaboo) My obsession with reading really took off this year, the catalyst was the Fifty Shades books. Reminded me how much I love reading :)

Kara | 20 comments I was always an above average reader, (thanks to my excellent preschool teacher) so I read little kid books since about 5 or 6, but my first big read was in 4th grade when I started the Harry potter series. I've been hooked ever since.

message 55: by Yoly (new)

Yoly | 642 comments When I was 5 years old I read a book called "EL PAIS MAS HERMOSO DEL MUNDO", I think the book is only in spanish but is something like "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD". And I just love it!! I remember my teacher make us read one chapter each month (because the book is about the months and each month is a different country) and we have to do a paint about what we read. I was so happy!!!

I love Spanish. It sounds so beautiful. I was thinking of learning the language last year, but a bit too busy.

Sophie (jeansoso) | 25 comments I was a bookworm since I was in elementary school. There was a library 2 blocks from the school so every afternoon my brother and I would go to the library and wait for my mom to pick us up after worm. The schedule stuck throughout middle school and now I'm just obsessed with the library and books.

message 61: by Raquel (new)

Raquel (ahnabella) After reading Harry Potter, about... 2 years ago? I don't remember. Before, I used to read a short book in some months, now I read almost 5 books a month hahaha

message 62: by Mara (new)

Mara (maraanne) I don't precisely recall a time that I didn't love books. I was one of those kids who would beg and beg for "just one more" bedtime story, and whenever I made a trip to the library and my dad got home, I would put my HUGE stack in front of him and say, "We're reading tonight." Of course, he had a horrible habit of falling asleep during the book, so I'd have to snag one of my older siblings or my mom to finish the book. But eventually, with some stories, I had them read to me so many times that I memorized them word for word and would just repeat them to myself while looking at the pictures.

But I suppose I didn't become a true bookworm until I could read for myself. It's funny; at first, I didn't want to learn how to read because I didn't want my parents to stop reading to me. But once I was able to read on my own, I didn't mind so much, and I took over reading stories out loud on family nights. I didn't have many friends my age to play with when I was little (though I had siblings, but they were all older than me and so didn't always quite fit the bill, though they were the best siblings I could ask for), and I struggled with depression - still do, - so books become a refuge and my friends. That's what turned me into the book-gobbling obsessive worm that I am now. ;)

message 63: by Jae (new)

Jae | 10 comments I became a bookworm about 7 years ago. :) I even remember the very first book I ever read. It was a Christian romance. The title was Home Sweet Texas. I fell in love with reading ever since. At the age of ten years-old, it seemed like the most amazing thing to me. Reading was my way of escaping the reality of my troubles. It was my way of becoming something greater. When I read I become the character, and the story is mine. Ever since then reading and writing has become a passion of mine. :)

Me too. Without reading, I cannot imagine what kind of life would it be.

message 65: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Tarzwell (kristarz) I personally have been reading for a long time, I don't ever remember a time where I didn't read or wasn't writing stories (I haven't written much in the past few years though) I have had a College level reading skill since grade 5 I believe... yeah... I read books like I breathe usually ha ha... well maybe not as often as I would like too now that I'm older and have other things taking up my time (Darn you school)

message 69: by Leanne (new)

Leanne | 16 comments I guess becoming a bookworm started when I got to borrow my first book when I started primary school for the first time. I was so excited and I remember my first book was about a ballerina. :) From then onwards I enjoyed picture fiction books and moved on to chapter books and fiction books. :) I would also read in between class periods when I finished my work. Now I love the genres fantasy, adventure, action, magic, comedy, romance and ya! :)

message 70: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Suarez (sandy21031) | 6 comments I became a book worm when the twilight series came out and have nit stopped reading since I'm addicted to fantasy sci-fi books but my favorite right now are books about angels like the fallen series, hush hush, the premonition series, etc =)

message 71: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylakaotik) I think I can say that I became a bookworm around 6 years old. I can remember going to the public library and checking out the maximum number of books (20) at a time and repeating the process every week or so. Ever since then, I'm devoured all kinds of books. My favorite places are always bookstores and libraries.

message 72: by Doruntina (new)

Doruntina | 55 comments I became a bookworm when i was 13 - when the first Harry Potter book was published. After the first book came translated into Albanian in my country, i would wait outside the bookshop for days for the other ones, because they were never sure when it would arrive and so i coudnt take the chance of it being there and me not having it. I would read every book that came out in one day - yes i know its freaky but i would not eat, sleep or even go to the bathroom until i was finished. Children, right? lol
Anyway, i fell in love with books after that, and since i discovered ebooks, i only read books in English now and needless to say i can never get enough.

message 76: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 18, 2013 02:03PM) (new)

Between grades K through 2nd I was always behind my classmates when it came to reading. My parents got me some extra help during the summer between 2nd and 3rd grade. So when I went back to school I was at the same pace as others. But I did not want to stop reading from then on. So when I got into 4th grade my reading level was at a 6th grade reading level. When I got into 5th grade I was reading high school books and higher. I remember asking my teacher if the school had Stephen King books that I could check out. Let's just say she called my mom to have a "meeting." So I really started reading in 3rd grade!

message 77: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 39 comments I loved reading when i was younger, it was so funny, i remember being in first grade and being given a ribbon for reading the most books in my class. But as i got older, namely 2nd grade through middle school i stopped reading until my freshman year of high school and i had to take a class in addition to my regular English in which i had to read books then take tests on them, because my ELA scores on the MCAS were really low and i needed improvement. The first book i read was Twilight and i remember just not wanting to do anything but read it until i finished the whole series in twelve days! Now i'm obsessed and on first names basis with the librarians.

message 78: by Zara (new)

Zara Hoffman (authzh) Probably around when I was 5. I loved stories way before then, but I learned to really read books on my own. Since then I haven't stopped. I also review them in a my newsletter, http://zarahoffman.com/avidreader.html

message 79: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (madewithlove17) I Actually Didn't Become A Bookworm Until High School (10th Grade) , I Use To Couldn't Finish A Chapter Book, Now Im Always In The Library :)

message 80: by Ivanna (new)

Ivanna (ivannarazote) | 15 comments I think it was in fifth grade that I started reading novels but before that I was into Archie comics.

And way back, when I learned how to read and write - latter part of preschool, I have this notebook where I write stories.

message 81: by Sapir (last edited Jan 25, 2013 10:20AM) (new)

Sapir | 138 comments I have always been a bookworm. When I was younger - in the 3rd-4th grade, I used to read two books every day. That was until I finished reading all of the children books in the library XD

Until the 6th grade, I used to write "novels". I used to get excited about an idea, start writing a novel, and then tomorrow starting another one...
I have millions of first chapters of unfinished storied saved on my computer.
Since the 6th grade, I stopped getting ideas. Sometimes I'm trying to force myself to write, but it doesn't really work. :\

Erin Latimer | 108 comments My mom started reading bedtime stories to my sister and I when we were really young! I still remember being completely taken by the Narnia series, and then I developed a ravenous appetite for all things fantasy!

message 83: by Megan (new)

Megan Brooker | 473 comments I remember the summer before third grade my mom started to take me and my two little sisters to a library in one of the suburbs of Lowell and there was a librarian there who I absolutely adored and got me hooked on all these series that I later reread on summer break as a teenager/adult to see if they were really good (they weren't what I remember dreaming about, but whatever). In fact I liked this woman so much at the library that for an essay in third grade about a person that changed your life I wrote it about her, and then preceded to humiliate myself by reading it to her in the library in my Halloween costume, I was a prairie girl which was the genre she introduced me too.

message 84: by Kristy (new)

Kristy Ann (thefictionalfairy) | 345 comments I found out I enjoyed reading when I was in seventh grade and I randomly checked out a book from the library, For Mike by Shelley Sykes. And I just loved it so much I started reading. It became my outlet from all the bullies in my class. From then on it just became a big hobby of mine.

message 85: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Reads (summerfirefly) | 370 comments My mom would bring me and my little brother to the library to get a few books every week and would have us write mini reviews of what we thought of some of them for homework. I don't remember a time I didn't love reading!

message 86: by Ruthy (new)

Ruthy Moo (frutiruthy) | 8 comments Wow you guys have some cool ones. I feel like a late bloomer.
Right before the summer of 2012 lol
Right before the hunger games movie came out I read the books and I was completely engrossed after that I read I am number 4 then went to other books then the summer I read the city of bones(love them!) plus 15 or more other books. Since the summer ive read a bunch I read probably more that 10 books last month. I'm studying from my ACT right now so I have to suspend myself from reading cuz once I start I cant stop I've read books from morning to the next morning its crazy!

message 87: by Emily (new)

Emily Anne (emilyannereaderrising) I have always been a reader, writer, and drawer since I was little! I cherished picture books and my parents read to me every night. I especially loved Jack and Annie books.

But then, in 2nd grade, I discovered Harry Potter. I read it alone, borrowed from a friend, and without my mother knowing because I knew she would take it away and call it "too scary". (We had had this conversation before)

I did eventually tell her... when I finished the book and begged for the second!

I read like crazy then on.

I became interested in the YA genre though in 4th grade, when I read all of Tamora Pierces books! I have been going strong since then!

message 88: by Erin (new)

Erin Latimer | 108 comments Emily, you sound like me! I read Harry Potter under the covers with a flashlight because my mom would have freaked! (because of the "witchcraft" in it...pfft!)

message 89: by Emily (new)

Emily Anne (emilyannereaderrising) Lol! Moms! Harry Potter is amazing, right? :)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments Believe it or not, I've never read any of the HP books!

message 91: by Emily (new)

Emily Anne (emilyannereaderrising) Really? You need to put them on the top of your TBR list! In my opinion, they are the most amazing books ever! But don't listen to me, if you want to, read them and form your own opinion! :)

message 92: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments I will! I have wanted to read them for so long but every time I go to the bookstore I never get them though!

message 93: by Emily (new)

Emily Anne (emilyannereaderrising) I know what you mean! A lot of times I want to read a popular series, but then when I am on Amazon or at Powells I go for some newer books, or a smaller series!

message 94: by Jacquelyn, thebrunettebooknerd (new)

Jacquelyn (jacquelynreads) | 18790 comments yeah, that's exactly what happens to me, I always end up in the "recently released" section!

message 95: by Emily (new)

Emily Anne (emilyannereaderrising) Yeah, plus I am a hardcover fan! I think they are much prettier than paperback!
