Agghhh (Again)!!! I am sorry, Connie, but this Invisible Lives is such a let down. It's like reading another version of The Mistress of Spices.

Next, I'm going into a Classic J, Jane Eyre. I don't think it's going to disappoint me. But if it does, there's something wrong with me. I may need help.

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Neenee. I hate when I get into one of those slumps where nothing seems to grab you. There is a 5 star book in your future.

message 58: by Neenee (new)

Neenee Awwww... thank you for your support!!! I am enjoying Jane Eyre.

message 59: by Neenee (new)

Neenee I am glad with my J book Jane Eyre... Enjoyable. But it took me the longest (in this challenge) to finish it.

My next book:Kissing In Manhattan

Jane Eyre is yet another of those classics I feel I ought to have read. Glad you enjoyed it, i may have to finally give it a go one day.

message 64: by Neenee (last edited Apr 10, 2013 10:55PM) (new)

Neenee Thanks, Helen. You should read it.

My K, Kissing in Manhattan by David Schickler was quite okay but not as enjoyable.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19211 comments No no. I'm the one plodding, not even through D yet. You're going great guns.

message 70: by Neenee (new)

Neenee Malaysian Tales Retold & Remixed by Daphne Lee was good.I didn't know that many local folklores but thanks to this book, I know a little bit more. Another plus factor: they gave a modern twist to some of the popular stories. It's quite interesting.

Also, I have started North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell for my N book. I already knew the story from watching the BBC miniseries. So it took me shorter time to finish it. I had a huge crush on Mr. Thornton, and thus Richard Armitage!! I think I still do...

Currently, into Dean Koontz' Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas, #1) by Dean Koontz . A mystery and paranormal, again..

So far my K to O books are great. No more complaining.

message 71: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really like Dean Koontz although I haven't read Odd Thomas as yet - I look forward to hearing what you think.

Can't wait to hear what you think about the Elvis stuff, Neenee!

message 73: by Neenee (last edited Apr 28, 2013 08:13AM) (new)

Neenee I enjoyed it thoroughly. Nearly cried at the end there. I knew she's going to die. But still I was so sad. Odd is odd but a very nice guy. I feel for him...

I'm going to search for Dean Koontz' other books. Mr. Koontz, you have a new fan!

p/s- I'm going to have a short break. For another book challenge I'm in, I have to go through a Western book (which I hate it thoroughly) and finish it like very soon. Will be back later in May.

message 74: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Glad to hear you enjoyed Odd Thomas - isn't it great when you find a new author that you like?! I love Dean Koontz' books.

Brenda (brendah04) Odd Thomas is also on my list. Now I'm excited to read it!

welcome to fans of dean koontz neenee! I've been reading his books since the 90's- I prefer his older stuff but there is something in his collection for everyone.

I'm glad I picked up this book. Now everytime I go to bookshop/library, I always look for his books. It's quite a handful. Any particular books you would like to recommend?

my favorite book by dean koontz is one I read in the 90's -Lightning- another fave of mine that I also read many years ago is Watchers which is considered one of dean's classics. last year I read and really liked Hideaway which is also an older book.

message 79: by Neenee (new)

Neenee Thanks, Rachel. I think I saw Watchers at the library but not the other two.

message 80: by Neenee (new)

Neenee My P book was Provinces of Night by William Gay . Took almost two weeks to finish it. A three-star -I didn't find the ending satisfying. So many things were left unresolved. But I like the way it was written.

Very eager to start the Q one: Quiet The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain .

message 81: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I have heard good things about your Q book so I hope you enjoy it Neenee.

message 82: by Neenee (new)

Neenee Thanks, Sarah. It's a good book. I gave it a three and a half star. I thought I would learn more about myself, but I've become more confused after reading it. I have to dig deeper.

Anyway, what do you think about my R book next, The Road?

I've not read The Road yet but it is on my TBR. I like a bit of post apocalyptic, dystopian action!

message 84: by Neenee (new)

message 86: by Neenee (new)

Neenee yes. really

message 87: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I still have it on my TBR list, but I just moved it to "maybe". It Does sound like an interesting story though. I think I still want to give it a try sometime.

message 88: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Despite it being depressing though is it good?

message 89: by Neenee (new)

Neenee Sarah wrote: "Despite it being depressing though is it good?"

Yes. It is good. My kind of book, sort of. But I got quite depressed. Overwhelmed by their hopelessness and impending sufferings. It took me two/three days to get my head and heart back. it was so real (to me)

Don't know how you would react to the book. Just read it.It's worth your time... and let me know what you think.

thanks for the recommendation neenee- I added this one to my tbr. your reaction to this book reminds me of how I felt after I read The Kite Runner- I felt as if my heart had been ripped out but I was so happy I read it- it's one of my favorite books.

I love The Kite Runner too. Depressing too. But i still could detach myself from the characters. I could say "this is only a book. Get hold of yourself, Neenee!!".

But with The Road, it got me thinking about how it could be if the world actually became like that in the book. There wouldn't be any humanity left, and i actually would end up being killed or killing people. Not walking dead kind of feeling... you know what i mean.

Ok. Ok.. I have to move on before spoiling the book out to you.

To my next book: A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon

message 95: by Neenee (new)

Neenee Finished A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon for my S book. Interesting and quite witty. But right after reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy , the protagonist's problems seem so trivial. Yes, it's not fair to compare those two, but couldn't help it.

Next is Thirteen by Sebastian Beaumont . I think it's a horror/supernatural/psychological something. About a cab driver's experiences around London at night.

message 96: by Neenee (last edited Jun 13, 2013 08:40AM) (new)

Neenee Finished my T with Thirteen by Sebastian Beaumont . Quite boring.

In the middle of the U: Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri . At first, I was more interested in the author's Pulitzer winner, The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri . But grabbed this one instead, yes, for the alphabet challenge.

message 97: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59970 comments Gosh! I had better pull up my socks. You are at U already! I'm reading G & H.

message 99: by Neenee (new)

Ballard Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Growing up in Trengganu by Awang Goneng The Harmony Silk Factory by Tash Aw Invisible Lives by Anjali Banerjee Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë Kissing In Manhattan by David Schickler Let's Kill Uncle by Rohan O'Grady Malaysian Tales Retold & Remixed by Daphne Lee North and South (Girlebooks Classics) by Elizabeth Gaskell Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas, #1) by Dean Koontz Provinces of Night by William Gay Quiet The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain The Road by Cormac McCarthy A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon Thirteen by Sebastian Beaumont Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri
