DESCRIPTION

Would you stay with a lover who tells you he's a former terrorist and is now a live target for retaliation by his betrayed comrades?

A community divided by a decades long feud. A man who wanted revenge for the murder of a loved one by the other side. A trap he fell into leading to the betrayal of his comrades and the infliction of the cruellest pain on his family.

Politicians opposed to the Good Friday agreement who will stop at nothing to protect their constituencies of hate and resentment of the other side.

If you think of Adrian McKinty and mix him with Jake Arnott with a little Gerald Seymour thrown in you'll want to devour this highly original novel inspired by the Northern Ireland troubles.

Mark Earnshaw works in a national bank call centre in Salford. His parents were killed in a coach accident when he was a teenager. The driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Mark understands the need for revenge.

Then he meets Ian Taylor, a builder and the coach of a local rugby league team. But Ian is hiding the darkest of secrets. He was given a new identity. His family back in Northern Ireland think he's dead. And as part of the deal he made with MI5 he's continued to work for the British state, helping them 'remove' people who are inconvinient to them.

But should that be happening in a democracy where the state should not be colluding with terrorists?

Now that Ian has met Mark, he wants out of the deal. He wants to start life all over. But can you resign from being a killer for the state?

He's now a hunted man. His former comrades in the loyalist gang have found out where and 'who' he is and they're coming after him. His MI5 handlers want to use the situation to snare his comrades and after that they'll let him go.

But when Mark learns the truth about Ian he's faced with a stark choice. Is he going to stay with Ian knowing that his own life is in danger? And would he kill to protect Ian?

In the end he has no choice because he loves the man.

But that love leads him to make the kind of decision that will have devastating consequences for the rest of his life.

And have yourselves a very Merry Christmas!
