The cover of the book has a floating island on it, and there might be a castle on it too. It's very green and lush. I remember picking it up because of the beautiful cover. I can't remember the name of it but I swear it starts with an S or an A and it was written by a man.

The girl meets a leprechaun who has crossed through a realm. The girl develops powers over fire, water, and earth elements through a series of challenges with elementals. Somehow, elementals (creatures) are crossing the threshold between Earth and another world, and only she can stop it. Supposedly, it was going to turn into a series. I think it came out around 04 or 05.

The elementals I remember are kind of like yeti creatures, but there are more, if I remember correctly.
