STOP! if you haven't completed the series at least one time, you should close this topic. It is an open discussion about what's next after 46 books.

This series is now comprised of over 48 stories once you add those planned for 2014. This is pretty extraordinary and I don't know of any other series of this length that still seems to be interesting. So, where do you see the series going? Are the books still a draw for you? Do you see it reaching a close?

Now that Eve's past has had somewhat of a resolution, how do you see her character evolving or has she already reached a point where you would say she's already evolved? What about Roarke and Eve's relationship? Any of her friends and work associates?

What do you think?

message 2: by Quynh (new)

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments I kind of wondered about this as well considering Eve's past has been revealed about her father and birth mother. I say birth mother rather than actual mother since she was never that role for Eve. I'm not too sure what avenue NR/JDR will take in terms of her past. A storyline where someone threatens to reveal her past to the public maybe? But I'm sure Roarke will put a stop to that right quick.

I'd love to see Eve be more comfortable around babies and kids. Though when/if that time comes, maybe that means a pregnancy will be in the works and the series will draw to a close. :(

It's amazing this series has lasted so long and with so many books that still keep our interest. Whatever NR decides to do, I'll be reading this series til the end, and re-read it long after it's over!

Same here, Quynh. One of the things I was thinking was having the secondary characters emerge more. In the earlier books, there seemed to be continuing stories involving Peabody and McNab, Mavis and, of course, Morris, just to name a few. There's been less of that in these last books so I thought maybe we'd start getting more of these secondary story lines involving the other characters.

For example, I'd like to know more about Webster's relationship with DiAngelo, especially if she knows about his history with Eve. Troy Trueheart was mentioned to be dating someone they didn't know about and it would be kind of interesting if that turned out to be a little mysterious.

These are the types of vignettes I'm hoping to see in the future. They've been in the background a bit while Eve has dealt with her own past. It would keep the series fresh.

Also, where the devil are Louise and Charles? He's now a sex therapist...how's that working for him? I would have expected these two to be with child by now:)

Is it time for Baxter to have a woman just floor him? THAT would be interesting.

Lastly, it's time for Jamie to reappear. What's he going to do...work for Roarke or become an e-cop?

As the In Death world turns....

Quynh (quynh_o) | 1269 comments Those are all great suggestions! I would love to see them back in the books as well. A baby for Louise and Charles would be adorable! I always had a soft spot for Baxter. It would be funny to see him fall head over heels for someone and have Eve make jabs at him about it lol.

message 5: by Cher (new)

Cher (sharpei) | 61 comments These are all great ideas!! I'm in! I will never get tired of this series, I hate to see it end, but that's unrealistic. I think Jamie coming back in full-time would be a great idea. He's about that age, isn't he? He should be about through college by now. I miss Charles and Louise too, the secondary characters are as dear to us as Eve and Roarke are! I would like more Mavis too. I've thought Baxter is due for his playboy days to end and Nora could really give him a good run for his money. I thought I noticed some new cops in Eve's division, can't remember their names. Hmmmm....maybe there is something there she could do also, bringing in new cops is a great way to bring new life into the books as well.

There's a new detective named Sanchez. I think he was introduced in Treachery in Death. And there's the new media liaison that Eve even likes.

message 7: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments I ould see it evolving where Eve becomes a captain and Peabody becomes the LT, This would still keep Eve in the loop but have it evolve. I would also like to see the secondary characters continue to play big roles.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
I'm with you, Dee, in seeing her make captain. She's already showing signs of leadership management.

Perfect. Thanks

message 10: by Drz (new)

Drz | 17 comments I'd like to see Eve finally make captain and see more of some of the other characters.

message 11: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I like the ideas for stories including the other characters, but I often have to remind myself the NR has only gone forward about 2 1/2 years (as of Delusion) from the beginning. So Jaime would still be in college. I also think changing Eve from Lieutenant to Captain would change much of the story, almost like if they had a baby. Maybe Nadine could fall in love with Baxter. That would be an interesting dynamic.

message 12: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
I've thought about a Nadine-Baxter pairing! It would be even more interesting if it happened after a night of too much celebrating and then they try to hide it:) Could Eve handle it?:)

message 13: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) I would HATE to see this series end, but I think that's a little unrealistic. I did read that NR (or should I say JD) said in an interview that if Eve ever becomes pregnant, that would be the end of "In Death"... BUT
can't you just see Eve & Sommerset if she does become pregnant? How they would be at each other during her pregnancy and then once the baby is born. Now THAT would be a whole different series in my opinion.

And if she did have a baby, she can become a citizen consultant like Ruarke is. Maybe not be the main character, but make appearances.
I still don't think that Peabody has the experience to take over Eve's position, but I think that Baxter would be the next consideration. And that also is another series. Baxter on the rise and he falls in love with a woman who just puts him through the ringer!
We need Jamie to come back, more of Charles and Louise, she has so many back stories that she can do a spin off series from, or multiple spin off.

message 14: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments Yea, I completely agree that watching Summerset and Roarke trying to get Eve to care or herself through a pregnancy (eating habits, sleeping, stress, etc) would be freaking hilarious. I just re-read Seduction and loved the part where she got sick...multiply that by a million in the event of a pregnancy lol

message 15: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2651 comments I would love to see Eve as captain but I can't remeber which book she was told that its way off. Eve and Rourke as parents ? Priceless.

Though Julia's idea of Baxter become Lt ... Mmm that could be very interesting. I'd read that series :the trusting Trueheart , with Dicky retiring and the queen of fibers( what is her name?) taking over that department. Jamie finally coming in full-time

Well now. This could work but I'd still need my In Death fix.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Lots of great ideas here.

message 17: by N. (new)

N. Davis | 24 comments What I think would be funnier than Eve being pregnant is Peabody being pregnant. Can you imagine her and Eve out in the field with the pregnant lady bathroom breaks, etc...Eve could avoid Mavis, but she wouldn't be able to escape her partner. Plus you would have McNab, the overprotective father-to-be always underfoot.

message 18: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15057 comments Mod
Now THAT is a great idea:)

message 19: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I keep waiting for them to get on with their relationship...then I remember the in Death timeline lol

message 20: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) N - that would be funny!!

message 21: by Michelle (last edited May 20, 2013 11:51PM) (new)

Michelle | 2651 comments And once the baby starts moving and Peabody starts cooing over that. Eve's face would be priceless :-D

message 22: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) That would be just as good as her reaction when Peabody talks about her & McNab's sex life.

message 23: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 47 comments I would love to see more of the normal life events like the cook outs or Eve planning a big surprise birthday party for Roarke. It is also about time for another off planet trip for Eve.

As much as I like the main story lines it is often the side stories that are my favorites.

Yes for me as well. I wouldn't mind just one book devoted to the domestic life of Roarke and Eve. Perhaps with Eve just consulting on a case where Peabody is the primary. But hey, I am just on Conspiracy in Death, so maybe there is hope. One can't begin to wish for such things when one is a newcomer to the series. I am a little bored with the case in Conspiracy. I perk up when I get to the interaction between Roarke and Eve throughout the book. Can't get enough of Roarke.

Hold on, Paula, because this story is going to pivot like you won't believe.

message 26: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct | 153 comments I think what would be really great is to have (novella) told from Peabody and McNab's POV AND one from Feeney and Mira's POV

AND

I just love Crack and think he needs a HEA with someone and I've always thought the female McNab character with the 'spectacular rack' would be a great match as after all he does run a sex club.

message 27: by Ladyacct (new)

Ladyacct | 153 comments Also, Eve pregnant with twins???? I am laughing so hard at just the thought.......

I love your novella ideas! What a great change of pace.

That would be e-detective Callendar and a fine choice for Crack:)

message 29: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 3250 comments I agree, I have always seen Callendar as the female version of McNabb

message 30: by Vera (new)

Vera M. | 446 comments Oh I love the novellas from different characters POV idea!!

message 31: by Tarri (new)

Tarri I think Eve should decide she wants a child and then has trouble conceiving because of all the damage left from her childhood. Eve taking hormones. . . fun for all, especially Sommerset.

message 32: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3059 comments Eve wouldn't have to be a civilian consultant to be off the street. If she took the promotion to captain she would be behind the desk supervising the team. However, I don't get that completely because Feeney is a captain and he goes in the field sometimes with Eve. That never clicked for me.

message 33: by Sheri (new)

Sheri Morell (smorell22) | 2165 comments Feeney does go out in the field with Eve but it is not very often. The majority of the time she would still be behind the desk. I can see her going in field at times with her team just not all the time

message 34: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I was a little disappointed to read that NR doesn't plan on marrying off Peabody and McNab any time soon. Her list of things she doesn't plan on doing is interesting: http://fallintothestory.com/a-definit...

I can totally understand her reasoning behind not doing POVs other than Eve's, but I always loved that idea.

I just finished FESTIVE last month and I'm not sure what I want to see coming up. (A lot of the things I fantasize about are on Nora's list of things she won't do.) Pretty sure Nora's imagination is better than mine.

I would like to see more of that other lady cop (Callendar?).

message 35: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Just realized I meant Carmichael...

SB*needs low angst books* Man you guys have great ideas. I like the idea of the series evolving with more from secondary characters. I think Baxter should be paired with Dewinter. Dickhead and Trina would make a interesting couple. I would love to see Jamie come on board and maybe even get with Callender. I would love to see Morris get someone but maybe someone outside the job who is into music like him. I would love to see Nadine with Kyung. I do want to see Peabody and McNabb get married. I think if the end does happen I would love to see Eve pregnant.

Interesting ideas. I do think Jamie is a little to young for Calendar. I'm not a DeWinter fan so I'm not crazy about her being with any of my favorite characters; Baxter & Morris are favorites for me.

SB*needs low angst books* I don't know how far apart in age Jamie and Callandar are. I just think he would be good with her type of character. I am not a fan of DeWinter either but I think for Baxter he needs a woman who is into the flash but intelligent enough to challenge him. I could also see him going the opposite way with someone really sweet who pulls at his heart strings.

message 39: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) It's hard for me to say as Nora has ruled out a lot of my fantasies. (It might be nice if Eve & Roarke got a dog.)

I miss the ansty books. Eve & Roarke haven't had a really good fight in a long time.

Maybe one of the Maintenance guys could show up dead and Eve would be a suspect?

As a big fan of Galahad, I must protest! One cat is enough pets, even though they live in a mansion with enough yard to fill a couple of city blocks :P

I like when Eve & Roarke are in Ireland too. I don't know how that would work but maybe one of her crimes sends her to Ireland. It would me more Sinead, Sean, Brian and the rest of the Irish clan. Maybe she will do a novella if she doesn't want it as a full novel.
