And I read all of Crichton's novels both Fiction and Non-Fiction. Just now starting to work through his earlier books written under his other names.

My favorite Crichton novel would have to be Jurassic Park. I love how he integrated real science into the book. Crichton made it seem so real. I read it when I was thirteen and it's still one of my favorite books. Dinosaurs Rule!!!
I've always liked the Crichton's writing basics : a short story (meaning, occurs during several days...), big plot, fear management and huge consequences, the way he starts a story and the way he ends it letting the questions arise in my mind.Weakness : characters sometimes a "cliché".
Anaway, here are my favorites: Jurassic Park, Rising Sun and Timeline (+ Airframe I'm also an aeronautics fan ;-) )
I love his books. Also enjoyed his memoir, Travels. I liked State of Fear, Prey, Andromeda Strain, and Terminal Man. He is a wonderful writer and I am so sorry he is no longer with us.
Tanvi wrote: "The reason I'm asking is because I loved the Andromeda Strain, however Pirate Latitudes and Micro I really didn't like that much, so I want to ask which Crichton would you recommend apart from AS."Some of my favorites are Timeline and Prey. Timeline is your classic adventure story with a touch of Scify. It's about a group of historians that are sent back in time to the Hundred Year War.
Prey is a bit more like Andromeda Strain meets Jurassic Park. The lead character enters a company that is developing a swarm of nano robots, some of which have gained self awareness and gone out of control.
Congo was my favorite of Crichton for years but I read it again recently and I don't think it aged well. So I'll go with "Jurassic Park". I recently read his "Travels" and enjoyed it very much and recommend it for those who like non-fiction travel books.
Prey is absolutely fantastic, I cant recommend it enough. As I read more and more Chricton my bromance with his writing becomes stronger and stronger
I really liked Andromeda, Timeline, and Jurassic Park best of all. Congo was good as well. I have not read Prey and Great Train Robbery, even though I intend to soon. Disclosure was a quick, pseudo-trashy camping trip read (though not sci-fi). State of Fear I read last summer, but it was my least favorite of his novels.
Jurassic Park, Lost World, Congo, Sphere and Timeline. I also did not care for Pirate Latitude and Micro was just OK for me... (but I had to finish it since it takes place on my island home.)
Jurassic Park and Timeline are so far my favorite. I still have a few more books of his that I haven't yet read.
In my opinion, The Great Train Robbery is his best book. Andromeda Strain is a close second. Congo and Jurassic Park are third.
Side note on Andromeda Strain: my sister read it 1970 and when she was done she gave it to me and I read it; she was 15, I was 13. While on vacation at the lake, I remember our discussing what had happened in the book as if it really had happened. That's how real the presentation had been to us. My dad heard us talking and brought us back down to earth. I still have that hardback book in a box somewhere. It's probably a first edition from 1969.
Ron wrote: "Westworld!"Actually Westworld was a film script. The film was not based on a novel, and there was no novel based on the film. Chrichton wrote the film script directly.
I would say State of Fear, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Sphere, and Next are his best books. Eaters of the Dead, Congo, and Prey are pretty good. Pirate Latitudes was kind of weak.
I did read "The Androme Dtrain" (spanish version, about 1990), and I felt it was the best book ever, but after that I read "The Terminal man" (spanish version about 1991) and since there MC is my favorite author. Actually I did read The Termial Man twice, the second time I read was in one day.
Of the crichton books i've read, i'll rank them out. 1. Sphere
2. Jurassic Park
3. Congo
4. Airframe
5. Andromeda Strain
6. Timeline
7. Eaters of the Dead
8. Pirate Latitudes
i'd like to read all of his books eventually but that's how i'd rank what i have read so far.
