Last year Connie challenged us all to read a book we'd never thought we would. Either something totally out of our comfort zone, a from genre/author we typically avoid or really any book we wouldn't normally touch with a ten foot pole.

For the challenge (and due to the gentle nudging of several others) I ended up reading the first of the In Death books and getting over my unjustified prejudice of Nora Roberts in all her forms. Because of this, I think it would be a great idea to renew this challenge and broaden our horizons again this year.

The challenge is simple. Pick a book that's totally out of the norm for you.

If you'd like suggestions to make sure your pick isn't totally blind, post here with what genres or authors your willing to explore for your challenge read and I'm sure your fellow RKBers will come up with some great suggestions. Post your progress and book selections here and happy reading.

Skye | 21 comments I have never read a romance book. It is WAY out of my comfot zone, so a suggestion for a good one? (I get nervous even at the thought.)

Onikah, I would consider the Virgin River series by Robyn Carr romance. The first book in the series is called Virgin River. I've read up thru book #6 and love them. Hope this helps ;)

I agree Jennifer. Virgin River is somewhat of a romance book but it also provides a good story and well-drawn characters. I'm not a romance reader myself but I loved this series!

Toni (tonibettencourt) | 30 comments If I read a biography for this one, can it also count in the genre challenge too?

Sure Toni! It's up to you. Lots of people (myself included) do multiple challenges and use the same book in different challenges. Others like to keep each challenge separate. You choose what works best for you!

Hmmm I don't know. My first instinct would be to say it's dystopian. You know what is fantasy though? The Name of the Wind, lol!
