It smacks of profiteering.

message 104: by Peter (new) - rated it 4 stars

Peter I prefer three movies from one novel than one movie from three novels.

The proof is in the watching, so I'll wait until number 3 to give a verdict.

I'd still love at least a trilogy of The Silmarillion, which is one book, but could easily go 6 movies. It all depends on how much of the source material the director wants to use.

message 105: by [deleted user] (new)

I do believe one of the main reasons the Hobbit will be split into three parts is because Peter Jackson wishes to put a lot of covered material in the Sil into the movies, along with a lot of other pieces of Tolkien.

message 106: by Holly (new) - rated it 5 stars

Holly The movie was good but they are just trying to milk it for all the $ they can. I was disapointed because I felt like it didin't follow the book enuff

message 107: by Lokischampion (new) - added it

Lokischampion too late! ha!

message 108: by Honest (new) - rated it 5 stars

Peter Maybe everybody except you considers the topic closed.

message 112: by Honest (new) - rated it 5 stars

Honest Bleach Hm didnt think about that.

message 113: by [deleted user] (new)

I was pretty disappointed in the movie. I loved the book, but the movie was a let down. I think the movie was such a let down because the lotr movies were so great, and because of this I had high expectations. Unfortunately the Hobbit did not live up to my expectations.

message 114: by Honest (new) - rated it 5 stars

Honest Bleach To me it was the opposite i saw the hobbit first and the lotr i thought the hobbit was better

message 115: by Dawn (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dawn I watched the movie prior to reading the book. Instead of being disappointed with the changes in the movie (took me some time to realize that), the movie actually intensified the epic reading experience I had with The Hobbit. Well, it helped me understand it better.

While I was reading though, I couldn't believe at first that that 1/3 of the book was just part 1 of the movie. That was funny.

message 116: by Aurora (new) - rated it 5 stars

Aurora Has anyone noticed that in the second hobbit movie, The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug, Peter Jackson has added another character...the women....Tauriel. It feels kind of messed up to me, because the story is as good as it is from the beginning and it is kind of nice that Galadriel is the only women in the whole story(basically).

message 117: by Craig (new) - rated it 4 stars

Craig I say eschew the movie altogether.

message 119: by Joana (new) - rated it 5 stars

Joana I actually really loved The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and I just finished reading The Hobbit before the second movie comes. Even though I loved the novel, I'm still pretty excited to watch the movies because I just really enjoy the movie adaptations of these novels, I think they might alter the storyline a bit (like most adaptations)but it also brings a lot to the story with the amazing visuals and the soundtrack.
I personally can't wait to see the whole Forest, Elvenking and Barells part on the big screen :3

Marybeth you should read the book first. the movie was pretty good but it did leave out a couple of things.

Elentarri jack wrote: "yeah i dont remember the big goblin or orc or whatever he is"

He is in the LOTR appendix - it's a back story - Thorin's history........ sort of. The orc thing dies, he isn't supposed to be pottering around in The Hobbit.

Victoria I read the book recently as I'd seen the first few minutes of the film and been pleasantly surprised. The books is just incredible, I can't wait for the second part of the film. I still haven't finished watching the first part! And Bilbo reminds me a little of myself - shy and fond of home comforts, but a bit of an adventurer too! :D

message 125: by Blake (new) - rated it 5 stars

Blake Murrell As a rule you should always read the book first. Though the movie may be a let down after reading the book you get a large amount of background and feelings and thoughts from the book they cant effectivley put in a movie.

Honest Bleach go to the second message ever on de first page

Matthew Ryan If you read the book before, you'll ruin the movie. If you watch the movie before, you'll ruin the book. If you've never read or seen either, read the book. But if you've already read the book a long time ago, don't refresh, just see the movie. Then, maybe after the experience has gelled for a while, go and read the book again.
