Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I saw the movie, but still cannot make up my mind if I want to read the book. I will be interested to hear your take on the movie.

I will let you know what I think of it Cherie. I am hoping to get around to watching it fairly soon.

I like Susanna Kearsley. I have The Rose Garden on my shelf from the library to read in August. I've not read Mariana yet though - on my TBR! Hope you enjoy it.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh - I have The Rose Garden on my list too. I have not read anything by this author yet.

Thanks Sarah! Mariana is really good so far. It is the first book by her that I have read and I think it is fair to say that I will be checking out more of her books after this.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have finished Mariana. I really enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars. I will definitely be reading more books by Susanna Kearsley because this one was a really nice read. My review is below:

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have completed my 'N' read, The Name of the Star which I also read for the August toppler. It was ok but not as good as I hoped it would be. My review is below:

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I really need to start getting a bit of a move on with this challenge so I am making a start on my 'O' choice which is The Ocean at the End of the Lane The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman .

Janice (jamasc) | 60006 comments That's a quick read, Lisa... and an enjoyable one. :)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman . It was ok. I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would. I gave it a 3 star rating and my review is below:

Now I am going to move straight on with my 'P' read which is Petite Mort Petite Mort by Beatrice Hitchman . This is the author's debut novel and was a complete impulse buy for me so it will be interesting to see what it is like.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments That is my 'P' read, Petite Mort, all done and dusted. This book was a bit disappointing to say the least. I gave it 3 stars because there were things that I liked about it, such as the mystery element, but I didn't really like any of the main characters and I found it a bit of a slog to get through for a reasonably short book.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I was going to read The Quiet American for my 'Q' book but I found out that it was too short to count for this challenge. Instead, I will be reading Queen and I which I am just about to start. It's a nice short read at around 270 pages and it sounds like it will be quite funny too.

Shanna_redwind | 228 comments I've given that book a try and I couldn't get past the first chapter, but I kept thinking about trying it again. After seeing your comment, I think I'll just give it a pass.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Queen and I. I thought it was pretty good and I gave it 4 stars. My review is below:

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I am throwing in the towel. I am not going to complete this challenge. Real-life, not to mention other challenges and books, have gotten in the way. I may get around to reading another couple of books for this challenge but that will be it. To be honest, I am pleased that I got as far as I did. At one stage, I thought I would be lucky to get halfway through an alphabet!

This has been a great challenge and I have really enjoyed taking part and trying to complete an alphabet. I will definitely be having a go at 2014's yearly challenge. Second time lucky maybe?! :)

message 68: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60006 comments I'm not going to finish it either. I will be starting my Q book maybe next week. There is no way I can get 10 books read by Dec 31.

I downgraded my Goodreads challenge from 100 to 90 so that maybe (maybe) I can complete one challenge this year. Is that cheating?

You can do it Janice! No, downgrading your Goodreads challenge is not cheating. Just pretend that was your goal to start with ;)

I have read some great books, many of which I may not have gotten around to reading if not for this challenge :)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Even though I won't be able to finish this challenge, I am now reading Rebecca Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier which is my 'R' read. This is a book that I have been wanting to read for ages but kept putting off for some reason. Am glad to have finally started it!

message 73: by Lisa (last edited Nov 24, 2013 07:11AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Rebecca for my 'R' read. I loved it and gave it 5 stars. It has such a great storyline and I loved the writing style. It has gone straight onto my favourites shelf and I highly recommend it.

I think this will probably be the last book that I read for this challenge, although I might be able to squeeze another one in if I have time.

message 74: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3263 comments I'm glad you liked Rebecca Lisa. I read it years ago but might do a reread on it. You may not finish the alphabet but how many 4-5 star books have you read because of this challenge? That makes it a successful challenge in my book.

message 75: by Lisa (last edited Nov 24, 2013 10:54AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I agree Marnie. I have been lucky enough to read a lot of great books for this challenge and have had fun in doing so. Can't ask for more than that really :)
